Diego: "It would be a sin to change now"

I've been out all day and I've missed the live coverage (if there was any) of Argentina's training session or media activity.

So I'm taking this information from the national media reporting on what Diego MARADONA said today.

Among other things, Diego said the following:

"I would be a sin to change now. Those matches we played against Uruguay (final week of the World Cup Qualifiers) and Germany (1-0 win in that friendly played in March in Munich) were tactically perfect. But right now, with different needs, the story is different. The truth is that we can't change the way we are playing now. It would be a sin to do that with the kind of players we have".

"I don't have time to think about what Bastian SCHWEINSTEIGER said (Note: He said Argentine players like to provoke their rivals). My players are thinking of getting out there to the pitch and have revenge from 2006. So I don't care about what he says about penalty-kicks, about how we don't know how to accept defeat. We don't care about that. Each match is a whole new story and this will be no exception. We are going to attack them and we are going to play on their half. Maybe that's why they are so nervous".

Diego showed his support to Martín DEMICHELIS and Angel DI MARIA.

"Who says DEMICHELIS is playing badly? Whoever says that must be Andrea BOCELLI (Note: An Italian blind singer). DEMICHELIS is playing great. He is a top centre-back. And I'm very happy with DI MARIA. He is doing everything I ask of him and he can explode in any minute. His moment will come. It's in the air".

After these comments, we still don't know what our starting XI will be, but we can pretty much know that we will go on and attack Germany. It also looks as if DEMICHELIS and DI MARIA will remain starters. We will know more about our probable lineup for Saturday when the team trains again on Thursday.

It is good to see that diego is not giving much away! and is thinking hard how to defeat the germans.

haha maradona is smarter than we all? "Whoever says that must be Andrea BOCELLI" best quote this wc. and it is very good maradona always ready to protect his players.

but he must strike back on what schweinsteiger said, this was clearly a try to infuence the referees. i see özil and podoldki dive around the pitch and get freekick after freekick. maradona mustpoint out who the true cheaters are. and masters at injuring argentine players.

i can't wait for this match. i feel how my hate for the german team rises every day, and will at peak on saturday. but i also keep a cool head. man, i really try to think like a player. we will win, can't repeat it enough.

I am okay with DiMaria starting..I also read in Clarin he is looking at Pastore or Jonas or Veron on the other side. Samuel is out of the starting lineup for Burdisso. My guess is Jonas will start opposite DiMaria. I am okay with this also. He has a great work rate.
Now about the Germans. Diego is correct, they are nervous. My guess is 2-1 or 3-2. Oddsmakers say we are a half goal favorite with the over under at 2.5.

More about the Germans. Last time they won 4-1 they lost the following game. England sucks, and I believe that the Argentine players have a chip on their shoulder. They will not admit it publicly, but if you read between the lines it is clear that Diego is not happy with our performance in the last game. He started off the practice Monday by asking players, "if we don't possess the ball, than who has it? the other team" Also, he stated in todays interview that they want to play ball control, and attack in their side of the field. We shall see how that goes. My personal feeling is we got little out of Maxi last game, and Jonas will start. Jonas is not flashy, but his work rate pays off for other players.

Expect the same starting 11 that faced Mexico. Maybe Veron in place of Maxi....

VAMOS!!!!

Samuel needs to start instead of Micho. End of discussion.

Argentina will win 2-0.

diego reminds me of alex fergerson the manure manager in the way he treats his players as no matter how bad certin players play you never never ever publicly critise them but im sure behind closed doors its differant.
good work diego.
i still want pastore to start and burdesso to replace demi.
its simple we have to attack as we dont play the defending game well and its a crime not to attack with messi,di marie, tevez, higuin playing.
we will win by attacking not defending.

Excellent Diego..

If someone yet claims that Diego is not a good coach, I have only one answer to them- Go to hell.

Diego is giving the players what they need from a coach.

Last day, there was a blog, suggesting we should defend with Bolatti and Mascherano and play a defensive game. I am so happy that we will be playing an attacking game against Germans whatever the results may be..

Yes Maradona, we hear you...everyday he's getting more similar to his master, Jose Mourinho. I love the way he defends his players. More than anything, I love the fact that he doesn't get affected by the public opinion.

The fans were voting abt the starting line up. About 20.000 fans took part, this is the most wanted starting line up by voting:
Romero; Otamendi, Burdisso, Samuel, Heinze; Mascherano, Veron, Pastore; Messi, Tevez, Higuain.

Sound like what the majority of us here want, doesn't it?

But the big boss says 'I'm the coach, and you are the fans!"

I love what he says abt Di Maria. I said it before. Di Maria played as midfielder left, not his usual attacking midfielder left. Maradona instructs him to be responsible of defense as well. He's done it perfectly. The first match was the adaptation process. That's why Di Maria looked bad against Nigeria. Then the second match against Korea was a very good match of Di Maria. That's what Maradona means by saying, "He does everything that I ask. He will explode, it's just a matter of time". Here Maradona doesn't see it the way most of us see it. We had too high expectation on Di Maria. That's not easy to happen. In fact, I would rather have the Di Maria who also defends well, than having Di Maria of Benfica who's a constant threat to the opponent, but doesn't play any defense.

Maradona makes Tevez a starter just before the WC. The one sacrificed has been Otamendi and then Gutierrez. Why not Di Maria? I thought Jonas was his third favorite player after Messi n Mascherano? Because Di Maria can play defense like Gutierrez and has the ability to explode in decisive moments unlike Gutierrez!!! The final of Olympic game was the prove, the friendly against Germany was the prove, the last friendly against Canada was the prove.

For me, when talking abt our midfield, I agree with clarin (I really hope it's right) in that Mascherano n Di Maria are untouchable, as for the other midfielder, I don't really care....as long as it's not Bolatti (he and Mascherano would make us too defensive minded). So it could be Veron, or Gutierrez, or Maxi, or Pastore. One of the four offers different things. So it's Mascherano-Di Maria-???. Then our midfield is ready to go!

Sorry for the triple posts...

One more thing abt Di Maria. Do you know what our record is when Di Maria is back from suspension?

8-0-1 (8 wins and 1 loss)

Those 8 are: Peru (just come back from suspension), Uruguay, Germany, Canada, Nigeria, South Korea, Greece (subs, but ONLY when he came on, we scored), and Mexico.

The only 1 loss was against Spain. I don't count the friendly against Catalunya as a friendly since we had many players missing, although Di Maria did play.

Now....we think someone else is better than him in our midfield?

Go check out our record before the 17th game against Peru. I'm too lazy to check...
