Youth World Cup, semifinal: Argentina - Chile

Argentina up 1-0 thanks to an Angel DI MARIA's goal in the 12th minute of first half.

Chile reduced to 10-men after MEDEL was sent off in the 15th minute.

The winner advance to the final match, where the Czech Republic will be waiting.

I'm working at the moment, I can't watch the game and I won't be able to post updates very often.

I though I could open a space for you to discuss and live the match as it happens.

VAMOS ARGENTINA!

Please ! That tackle along the sideline was not a yellow ???!!! That was probably a red by all rights. No guts by the ref after the expulsion.

Man, the Chileans are out for blood. It looks like they are forming a mental picture of Pinochet on every one of our players.

1-0 at half. The Chileans are in a VERY bad mood.

johnny said...

Wow ! 5'2". I didn't know that. Pulgaita, or something like that.

johnny said...

Was that a yellow ? I guess.

Anonymous said...

i want el kun to score again so he is pichichi

Seba said...

Thanks for the updates, people!

I'm very happy with Maxi MORALEZ playing that well!

Also, with YACOB's goal! They are both a product of Racing Club's youth system!

We've got 5 out of the 11 players on the field for Argentina, coming from Racing's factory!

ROMERO (Goalkeeper)
MERCADO (right back)
YACOB, SANCHEZ and Maxi MORALEZ (midfield)

CAHAIS and YACOB will miss the final, now.

But good to see the Little Argentina are still alive in their quest of becoming the only FIFA national team to win 6 titles in any category.

That...despite having such a mediocre manager!

Seba..you seem to be very critical towards TOCALI..well if he can bring success..im happy.

Seba, i did post in an earlier comment on another article regarding the 1997 Youth World Cup captain.. DIEGO MARKIC, do you know where is he playing now?

Seba said...

Alwin, I think MARKIC has retired from professional football.

I'll do a little research (if time allows me) and will try and clear the air for you.

Not far from full time whistle now!

As for TOCALLI, I don't need to see his teams anymore to know how he is.

When he said he was happy with a 0-0 draw against Uruguay in the southamerican tournament, even though we needed to win 1-0 to qualify for the Olympics, he pretty much gave me no choice but to dislike him immediately!

Now, watching Argentina playing in this Youth World Cup against North Korea and Mexico and doing the same both times we went ahead in the score...confirms everything.

And today he replaces DI MARIA (forward) with SANCHEZ (defensive midfielder) to defend a 1-0 lead against a 10-man Chile!

Pulgaita !! Goooooallll !!!!

GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL

The Chileans done gone crazy !

Anonymous said...

they are teh suck...

That was an ugly, immature display from Chile from beginning to end. They began the match fouling like alley way muggers and then bitched, whined and acted like lunatics when their behavior bit them in the ass. Pathetic.

Seba, maybe he is not the JOGO BONITO style manager..but i think so far, he is delivering..as i mentioned earlier..win at all cost and we always end up the BEST PLAYING LOSERS..THE BEST LOSING QUATERFINALIST..always..always..alwalways, i think enough is enough and its time to win..win..win..at all cost.

Congratulations to the U-20 team, now for the final hurdle..the CZECHS

Well done ,little Argie .We"re through to the final .The would be 3rd consecutive champion .Sound very great

Anonymous said...

The final is against czech which we drew at the first round .But I thought nothing can stop little Argie to be the 3rd consecutive champion ,Right
...Tonymed

Seba said...

Alwin, I don't want to ignore his job or pretend he's got no credit, BUT, if Argentina advanced to the final is because we simply have the best players compared to the rest of the teams.

Apart from Mexico (with Gio DOS SANTOS) and Brazil (with Alexandre PATO), there are no teams around with one player in the same level of Kun AGÜERO, Mauro ZARATE, Eber BANEGA and Maxi MORALEZ.

And none of the best players around, have the first division football experience of our 11 starters and all the players in our bench.

That's the difference.

I say we are winning DESPITE TOCALLI.

Not BECAUSE OF TOCALLI.

Anonymous said...

Seba, but isn't that always the case, we have the best players compared to other teams and we walk past opponents with ease on most occasions and CHOKE when it matters especially against our rivals.

I'm not defending TOCALI or what here, but isn't what you are saying a reflection of what BIELSA did in 2004 when we won in ATHENS with a very strong squad. Did BIELSA make the difference there?

As reported on ESPN online this morning, there was a nasty fracas after the match involving Chile players and staff that resulted in somebody from the Chilean side being tasered. This happened as the Chilean contingent was boarding their bus. Man, what's the deal with the Chileans ? Their Copa squad is rampaging in Venezuela with working girls, tearing up hotel rooms, and the youngsters act like a bunch of spoiled hoodlums. Looks like they need some new management.

If only the men could learn from the boys

That’s all I can say for the time being. Well let’s face it we qualified for this competition unconvincingly but in the end the boys made the most out of it when it really matters.

And now we’re in the final and what a match it was against the ruthless Chileans.

I remember fondly back 2005 what was it like after the losing the Confederation Cup and then a few days later the boys defeated Nigeria to ease my pain.

Let’s hope for the same.

Bring on the Czechs!!!!

ok... one more time... just please don't be like copa... please! damn! am i expecting too much from this ??? ^^

By the way,

Great to you back, Seba. I hope everything is going fine at your end. By the way what is the progress like involving Albiceleste in various other disciples at the Rio Games?

Di Maria got hurt, that's why Tocalli took him out. and he's going to miss the final as well.

I really feel bad for the Chileans. IMO they played well and the ref cud have been slightly more light on that first red card. The game was marred by a very slippery pitch which actually translated into loosing the ball fast. And Chile were not helped by the fact that some of the Argentines were over-reacting to fouls - or lack of any major contact. Overall, a pathetic match to watch. Though Argentina fully deserved the victory with that jaw dropping pass and great finish from Di Maria.

ppl are flaming argies here:

maybe go check it out and give me a hand? these ppl are trying to say we didn't deserve the game, we were cheating and the ref went along with us...

Anonymous said...

the chileans are garbage, simple

I was at the game in Toronto.. man, what a surreal atmosphere it was. Even though we were outnumbered by a 70/30 split, we were all loud and vocal. Our section started singing the terrace song 'Argentina va-salir campeon!', I think the all the Chileans wanted to kill us....

To the game, yes, Argentina started diving all around the park the moment they got up 1-0, but seriously, there was no way we were going to lose. We play acted to get the Red card, but the way I look at it, our Sr. boys played it all straight and ended up with no trophy. we won fans but ended up with no glory. so might as well use the Bra motto 'win at all costs' even if that includes diving, play acting, etc...

johnny said...

I agree there was some diving after the first goal, but Chile brought alot of that on themselves by their very hard fouling early in the match. A couple of their tackles looked like NFL play. Once the ref saw the continued hard fouls, then it becomes difficult to see what is a hard foul and what is a flop. They made their bed and now they can whine in it.

Anonymous said...

Speaking of terrace songs. it would be cool to get some of those songs on the blog. So I can sing them at home while I watch the game on sunday!!
