Wednesday, 19 May, 2010: The day of the list

Diego MARADONA has time until June 1 to announce his World Cup squad, but this time he is not taking up to the very last second to make it official.

Instead, he will unveil it TODAY.

He will cut his list of 30 and seven players will miss out on their World Cup dream.

What am I hearing?

I'm hearing that Ariel GARCÉ (only played 1 match for Argentina -vs. Haiti-) WILL make it to the World Cup.

And everybody seems to agree that the seven players that are going to be cut out are:

Juan Manuel INSAURRALDE
Fabricio COLOCCINI
Juan MERCIER
Jesús DÁTOLO
José SOSA
Sebastián BLANCO
Ezequiel LAVEZZI

Those are the rumours, but I wouldn't bet a single penny on them. We all know how MARADONA can change his mind in a split second.

I still fear the worst with some names (I don't want to jinx it so I won't mention them) and I won't be at ease until the list is released.

In the meantime, and knowing the 30 names, who would YOU leave out?

Do we know what time around Diego will make the announcement?

I would leave out these players in this list! I just hope that Milito and Pastore are in the 23 man squad list...
I'll take Maxi instead of both Sosa and Datolo just because he has world cup experience and could come in handy.

no way!! we need datolo! hey i kmow many will disagree with me but really we need datolo! i hope datolo make it! hope so

Pity you fellas are not doing another live chat! Diego's inevitable delay with the final list would have made for a great opportunity to recycle all our much-loved jokes from the previous chat! Hooray! *starts a one man wave of angsty cynicism*

I would cut those guys

Insuarallde
Garce
Sosa
Blanco
Palermo
Maxi
Mercier

Datolo must go he never played 1 single bad game for the NT. He brings versatility and may be the best LB we can use there. Maxi has brought nothing to the NT for years now and i luv Sosa but its either him or Lavezzi

I've got no idea about the time when Diego will make the announcement (or how he will make it).

Last time around it was a deadline imposed by FIFA and he had to release the list before 6 or 7 PM Buenos Aires. Now there isn't such a deadline and so it will depend on Diego's will.

I will be keeping an eye on it. And if one of us (Roy, John, Seba) is around by the time he makes the announcement, we could have a live chat like last Tuesday.

I would cut the following seven....

Garce
Insaurralde
Blanco
Mercier
Bolatti
Lavezzi
Coloccini

Datolo should go, he hasn't played poorly for the national team yet and Maxi knows what it takes to shine at the world stage.

Riquelme had surgery and won't be able to play for three months. At least now we can say "what would have happened if he got injured just after being called up".

blog guy YOU CONTRADICTED YOUR SELF REPEATEDLY IN YOUR ARTICLE

YOU ACUSE MARADONA OF NOT BEING ABLE TO MAKE HIS MIND UP AND REFER TO DRUGS AND MENTAL ILLNESS IN MANY DIFFERANT WAYS

BUT A MAN CLEARLY ALREADY WITH HIS 23 CHOICE IS CLEARLY NOT SCATTY IN THE HEAD AND HAS HAD HIS LIST GIVE OR TAKE READY FOR A LONG TIME

THEN AT THE END OF THE ARTICLE YOU AGAIN SLANDER DIEGO BY THE SPLIT SECOND COMMENT

BUT DOESNT THE FACT THE LIST IS READY AND BEING DELIVERD EARLY CONTRADICT WHAT YOU JUST SAID

FACT MARADONA HAD HIS LIST ALL ALONG

FANTASY MARADONA IS INSANE AND INDISIVIVE BECAUSE OF COCKAIN

HOW CANB HE BE WEN THE LIST IS READY

YOU MY FRIEND NEED TO GETR A JOB AT THE SUN NEWSPAPER OR THE SUNDAY NEWS OF THE WORLD

YOUR A TABLOUD HACK

MARADONA HAS A PLAN AND THE MAN POWER FOR THAT PLAN AND ZANETTI WAS NEVER GOING TO THE WC FROM THE DAY MARADONA TOOK THE JOB

SO PLEASE TAKE FACT AND LEARN TO LIVE WITH IT

STOP MAKING UP TABLOUD HEADINGS AND PUNS ITS IDIOTIC

between maxi and datolo, i would choose datolo for sure.
on the other hand, what happens if mascherano gets injured or suspended? bollati is the alternative...catastrophy!

but i have the feeling that Milito will be droped for Palermo.

messi-tevez-higuain-milito-aguero-palermo=6 forwards

veron-masch-jonas-dimaria-maxi-pastore-bolatti

i would say thats the list give or take maxi has lost pace but his a perfect wing cover or even center midfield in a emergancy

no gago no banega no mercier its bolatti and pastore and pastore can be used for veron or wings bolatti can be used for veron and mascharano only way mercier gets included is if we drop a forward

Anonymous said...

im also a fan of datolo but it could weaken squad strength as maxi is more versatile and we need midfield cover pastore is perfect for midfield or wing datolo is just a left winger jonas is a winger or fb for both sides maxi is a winger come midfielder and again both sides

but i do not want maxi in starting 11 he has lost pace and hasnt the lungs for 90 minutes plus he has been terrible at liverpool

These 7 players should not go to the world cup, in my opinion:

Ariel GARCÉ
Juan MERCIER
Jesús DÁTOLO
José SOSA
Sebastián BLANCO
Martin PALERMO

For Anonymous who left a comment stamped 9:26AM: What is it with your use of capital letters? What is the need for your aggressive tone? Your post is screaming at others, as opposed to politely engaging in a dialogue with others. I am sure that most readers of / people posting in / this blog are here because they want to follow the developments of the “albiceleste” while engaging in a polite exchange of ideas. In my experience most people here are awesome and very respectful of each other. Unfortunately, postings like yours and others like LM10 (or similar name, I don’t remember it exactly right now, but of late his/her ranting in capital letters has become ubiquitous) destroy the good vibe and mutual joy we all intend to maintain here. Cool down and go get your attempts at demeaning people who work so hard at keeping this blog on somewhere else. Respectfully, a reader who is happy that she recently encountered this blog, Luc (LZ).

I would go with Maxi instead of Datolo. Maxi in the first hand is a better player. World cup experience. And since his gone to Liverpool his been great. In eleven matches or sow he has had 4 assists and one goal.

Benitez i very pleased with him. Otherwise i know maybe i will upset a some here. But i want Palermo to come instead of Lavessi.

I believe his height and heading capacity will be a strong and diffrent weapon for us. Its like the Englishes Crouch. He brings something diffrent. In Lavessi we already got a much better player in Tevez.

I think Tevez will be among our strongest players. When we put him on around the 70th minute he will be like a pitbull. He will eat the defences alive.

Los 23 elegidos por Maradona:

Sergio Romero (AZ Alkmaar), 23 años, 5 partidos, primer Mundial

Walter Samuel (Inter), 32 años, 54 partidos, segundo Mundial

Gabriel Heinze (Olympique), 29 años, 65 partidos, segundo Mundial

Javier Mascherano (Liverpool), 25 años, 56 partidos, segundo Mundial

Lionel Messi (Barcelona), 22 años, 45 partidos, segundo Mundial

Mario Bolatti (Fiorentina), 25 años, 4 partidos, primer Mundial

Diego Milito (Inter), 30 años, 21 partidos, primer Mundial

Es el mejor delantero del Calcio. Se adapta a jugar con cualquier esquema. Goleador.

Carlos Tevez (Manchester City), 26 años, 53 partidos, segundo Mundial

To the people posting the lists, keep in mind this has not been confirmed by Maradona. This is strong speculation by the media (which they think is very good, so they "confirm" it). It might very well be the official list, however, Diego has not confirmed anything. He hasn't released it yet.

I'd be happy with this list. I was dissapointed with some of the names left out of the original 30, as so many people were, but this rumored list of 23 gives me hope. Aside from the midfielders to strikers ratio, I think the balance is pretty good. Burdisso can cover any of the defensive positions, and Clemente and Garce offer a Plan B if the four centre-backs aren't working. Maxi is an alternative on the wings, as are Pastore and Bolatti in midfield. The six strikers suggest he will consider playing a front three, which is encouraging. It's not perfect, but I'm happier now than I was last week. Still, Diego may have another nasty surprise in store for us!
