2009 FIBA Americas - Four In A Row For Tall Albiceleste

Just about a week ago it seems that the Tall Albiceleste chances of booking their place for next years FIBA World Championship on an automatic birth looks over. Just how fast have they turned things around after notching their fourth successive win over Mexico by the score of 77-65.

The scoreline was tied at 17 points but Argentina quickly took command in the second quarter and never look back. They started with a 9-0 run led to take a 26-17 lead with 7:38 left. At the half Argentina finished with a 34-29.

The combination of Luis SCOLA, Federico KAMMERICHS and Pablo PRIGIONI kept Argentina in the lead. Leo GUTIERREZ was unstoppable in the final ten minutes making three baskets from long range, to put the final touches on another victory.

SCOLA was the best performer posting 25 points, 7 rebounds, 5 assists and one block shot. Both GUTIERREZ and KAMMERICHS had 14 points each with the latter also earning 11 rebounds.

Next up, Argentina will take on tournament joint favorites and host nation Puerto Rico.

2009 US Open - Easy Ride For DEL POTRO and ACASUSO.

Juan Martin DEL POTRO convincingly dispatch fellow Albiceleste Juan MONACO in straight sets, 6-3, 6-3 & 6-1 to move on to the next round where he will take on Austrian Jurgen MELZER.

Another Albiceleste Jose ACASUSO also had no problem with his first round tie against Marcos DANIEL of Brazil. He also won in straight sets 6-2, 6-4 & 6-3. He will face 18th seed David FERRER of Spain in the next round.
