Diego Names The Remaining Nine Home Based Players

I’ve just got this news and hopefully it is genuine one. Diego has just named the nine players from the domestic league that will now complete the squad for the upcoming World Cup Qualifier against Peru and Uruguay.

After heading remarkable goal for Boca in their 3-2 win over Velez Sarsfield, Martin PALERMO (not surprisingly) makes the cut and now rumours has it that he is likely to start and lead our attack.

Here are the complete list of the local league players.

Goalkeeper
Diego POZO (Colon de Santa Fe)

Defenders
Rolando SCHIAVI (Newell's Old Boys),
Nicolas OTAMENDI (Velez Sarsfield),
Fabian MONZON (Boca Juniors)

Midfielders
Mario BOLATTI (Huracan),
Enzo PEREZ (Estudiantes),
Juan Sebastian VERON (Estudiantes),
Federico INSUA (Boca Juniors)

Forwards
Martin PALERMO (Boca Juniors)

And now, please let us have your say on this.

Good to see Enzo Perez, a good midfielder I remember he played well in the Libertadores final.

BTW- Perotti was excellent for Sevilla vs Real Madrid last nigh.

Hi Pisingh,

Yeah, I've been hearing a lot of great reviews about PEROTTI's performance against Real.

On other hand, I hope Federico INSUA is back to his very best. Remember he had horrible year in the Bundesliga back in 2006/07. I knew Coco BASILE was eager to use him as our Enganche after Roman's first retirement spell. The fact that SCHIAVI's name is also on the list, I'm getting even more scared about our prospect against Peru and Uruguay.

Hi John. Insua has looked really good at times with Boca recently, and at other times not so good. I thought he played well against Ghana-for whatever that's worth. If nothing else, he can provide some nice crosses for Palermo. Ha ha. You could probably say the same thing about Fabian Monzon.

Have you seen Palermo's 40 meter header for the winner against Velez Sarsfield last night ? Amazing.

BTW-I'm going to be at the Monumental for the match Saturday. I guess I'll be able to say that I saw the last hurrah of Argentina's WC chase, or hopefully, a resurgence of our hopes.

sadly that's the big thing that makes us lag one step behind brazil lately: the fact that the argentine media and local club bosses have that much a say when it comes to building the squad.

No Papa...nice to see Monzon although it seems like he has not been as good as he was during the olympics.

In Argentina, trust that Maradona will get the job done

6 oct 2009 (The New York Times).- As Brazil celebrates its selection as host for the 2016 Summer Olympics, prepares to host the 2014World Cup and enjoys its qualification for the 2010 Cup, its fiercest rival in South America, Argentina, has been gripped by the unthinkable.

With two games to play, Argentina, which won the World Cup in 1978 and 1986, and has not missed a Cup since 1970, is in danger of not qualifying for the tournament in South Africa next summer.

``I just came from Argentina, and there is no pessimism, yet there is concern,'''' said Mario Kempes, a star of the 1978 World Cup-winning team who now works as an analyst for ESPN Deportes. ``Today, the people are looking for nothing beautiful, only to qualify, that''s it. It''s strange. There is so much talent.''''

What had been a formality for Argentina has turned into a torturous process made all the more poignant because the team''s coach is the incomparable Diego Maradona, a man who has become a lightning rod for adulation and derision at home and abroad.

Argentina is in a precarious position in the 10-nation South American group, where the top four teams qualify automatically and the fifth-place team enters a home-and-away playoff against the fourth-place team from the CONCACAF region. Brazil and Paraguay have already qualified, and Argentina, in fifth, hosts last-place Peru on Saturday before it crosses the Rio Plata to play Uruguay in Montevideo on Oct. 14.

Daniel Brailovsky, another ESPN analyst who played with Maradona, was careful with his words when discussing the national team and was especially hesitant to criticize Maradona, whose status approaches that of a deity at home.

``At some point, we all have to build experience,'''' Brailovsky said through an interpreter, referring to the criticism that Maradona had no experience coaching at the top level before he was appointed last November. ``Remember Franz Beckenbauer in Germany?'''' With little coaching experience, Beckenbauer led West Germany to the World Cup championship in 1990 in Italy.

``It''s difficult for me; I know Diego, I''ve played with him and he''s a friend,'''' said Brailovsky, who coached in Israel and went on to coach Club America in Mexico. ``Even though people think he''s not, he''s a very smart person.

''''But with Diego, on the field he had an ability to create and change the game by himself without having to depend on other players. As a striker, you don''t often look at the game as a coach would.``

Kempes said he took no pleasure in seeing Argentina struggle, but he did see some value in the team''s challenge.

''''In the past, Argentina has not had to struggle to qualify,`` he said. ''''Sometimes it is not bad to be scared. It can help in the next stage.``

Veron gets chosen again?!! After that dismall red card which took away our chance of coming back with a result against Paraguay??!
Where's Salvio and even Brana?!
Why does Otamendi keep on getting picked? He's not a good defender at all!
Perotti and Pastore are our new talents which I saw play this week for their clubs and they are future World Class players.
However it dissapoints me to know that Samuel is not in the team.

I don't think we should worry about who's in, who's out. Argentina has enough talent to form 3 world cup teams ... problem is, they don't play as a team. There is no cohesion, just collections of stars. Unless, there is change from a coaching stand point, it will not get the result that match the talent level. Diego is killing us.

how come veron is selected when he has a red card, shouldn't he have a one match ban?

Roy said...

Batigol9, Veron is going to miss the Peru game due to suspension. However, he would be able to play versus Uruguay.

Thanks Roy,it;s a good thing he's missing the game...it's Aimar's or di Maria's chance to shine
