NBA Playoffs News - Scola Pours 19, Rockets Win Game 1

The Houston Rockets made the best start in their quest to end their first round jinx by hammering a young Portland Trail Blazers 108-81 in Oregon. At one point, the veterans Rockets lead by as many 31 points and the young Blazers just simply had no answer.

For an extensive details on the match coverage, please check out the review from Dave’s NBA Round Table blog (Game Time: Portland vs. Houston).

In the match up that might have given the Rockets the most concern, Luis SCOLA dominated LaMarcus ALDRIDGE. SCOLA hit seven of nine shots for 19 points, 15 in the second half alone (plus 8 rebounds, 1 assist & 1 block shot).

ALDRIDGE, who was Portland’s leading scorer against the Rockets this season and was expected to continues his dominance over SCOLA for this game. But SCOLA was immense in his own way (watch out his amazing block in the fourth quarter on the video below) force ALDRIDGE to make three of 12 shots.

Both teams will square off again on Tuesday for Game 2. Pretty tough call to say what might happen but a win for the Rockets will ensure they got one foot already in the next round.

Good synopsis, I think that it was a lot of nerves for the Blazers. They at least had the pace that they wanted. Again, I expect them to win the next game and pull this one even. A lot of these series are going to go 6 or 7 games.

It'll be interesting to see what the Blazers bring to Game 2.

What's looking good for the Rockets are that Artest, Battier and Scola bring some serious killer instinct to the game and they might just go for the jugular in the next game.
