MESSI Maintain Barca's Lead In La Liga

A solitary goal from Lionel MESSI against Getafe ensured that Barcelona maintained their lead at the summit of La Liga with nine points ahead of Real Madrid. Fed by Xavi, MESSI found space in the penalty area and managed to squeeze his left-footed shot into the bottom-right corner from the edge of the six-yard box. Throughout the match, it did look like one sided affair with Lionel being denied a penalty and even a goal for offside, which the linesman clearly got it wrong.

Atletico Madrid continued their push for a Champions League spot by seeing off struggling Numancia 3-0 at a rain-swept Vicente Calderon, with Ever BANEGA opening the scoring in the 62nd minute.

Roberto AYALA still got some thing on his sleeve as he scored Real Zaragoza only goal against Gimnastic de Tarragona in the Spanish Segunda Division.

While in the English League One, Luciano BECCHIO scored for Leeds United in their 3-1 win over Tranmere Rovers. In Russia, FC Moscow defeated Saturn Moscow 1-0 with a goal from Hector BRACAMONTE.

Lazio became the first team to defeat Genoa (1-0) at home, who were playing without their ace Diego MILITO. It was another Albiceleste striker that got the spotlight this time. In the 65th minute when Mauro ZARATE latched onto a long, sweeping ball from Christian LEDESMA before picking his spot in the far corner of RUBINHO’s goal.
