Despite missing a penalty from Steven GERRARD as early in the 4th minute, Liverpool with Javier MASCHERANO in the starting line up delivered inspired performance when it really matters.
Goals from Steven GERRARD, Fernando TORRES, Dirk KUYT & Ryan BABEL ensured that the Reds qualified for the knock out stage.

Goals by Lucho GONZALEZ and Ricardo QUARESMA gave the Portuguese side 2-0 and subsequently qualifying to the knock out stage as Group A winner.
Porto’s Lisandro LOPEZ had an effort disallowed for offside after 13th minute but all that pressure paid off the with a strike from Lucho just before half time.
Mario BOLATTI came on in the 81st minute as a replacement for Lucho. While Besiktas had Matias DELGADO and Rodrigo TELLO in starting line up and Federico HIGUAIN on the bench (84th minute substitution for TELLO)
Lucho was also voted as Man of the Match.
Real Madrid 3 Lazio 1
Gonzalo HIGUAIN, whom alongside Javier SAVIOLA & Fernando GAGO were all on the bench, was the only Albiceleste player to see action as 73rd minute subsitution Ruud Van NISTELROOY.
Lazio had Lionel SCALONI & Christian LADESMA were both starters for Lazio.
Olympiakos 3 Werder Bremen 0
The Greek side made it to the knock out stage with Luciano GALETTI and Cristian Raul LADESMA in the starting line up
