Europa League - Eagles Keep Flying & More

Plenty of goals coming from the Albiceleste Army in Europe’s other club competition. So I decided to put a short article just to keep some of reades who may not know, updated.

Of course for me in the competition its all about Benfica. Javier SAVIOLA and Angel DI MARIA were just to much for Everton to swallow as the Eagles from Lisbon came away with another superb 2-0 win against the Premiership side. The SAVIOLA-DI MARIA combo produced numerous chances throughout the game but had to wait until the 63rd minute to finally break deadlock.
A brilliant counter attack involving those two resulting in a clinical finish from close range by SAVIOLA. The results sends Benfica three points clear at the top of Group I.

In the same group, AEK Athens drew 2-2 at home against BATE Borisov with a goal from Ismael BLANCO.

Italian side Genoa revived their hope in the competition with a 3-2 win against French side Lille. The Albiceleste partnership of Rodrigo PALACIO and Hernan CRESPO gave them a 2-0 lead before the visitor pull back level with just six minutes to play. Genoa’s winning goal came from Giuseppe SCULLI deep into injury time.

Also looking good to progress to the next stage is Anderlecht who won 3-1 at home to FC Timisoara with Matias SUAREZ scoring for them first from the spot. Lazio’s progress took a stumble when they were defeated by Villareal 1-4 away with Mauro ZARATE scoring a consolation for them. Gonzalo RODRIGUEZ was sent off in the 33rd minute. Romanian side FCR Cluj had Sebastian DUBARBIER scoring for them in their 2-3 loss to Sparta Prague.
