No Gold Las Leonas, Close Call For Basketball

A day earlier we were going for gold and glory and the next was almost totally a disaster in the making.

Our hopes were dashed in the women’s field hockey when Las Leonas were defeated 2-5 by a very comprehensive Dutch side. Despite the presence of Diego MARADONA in the stands, our ladies were no match against their opponent.
They relied heavily on Luciana AYMAR’s inspiration but the resilience Dutch defense proof too much for Argentina to create any chances. Our ladies only managed to score towards the end of the game through Marine RUSSO & Alejandra GULLA.

Considering her age, I would like to think that this could be the last time La Maga will play at the Olympics. Sad to see that for a player of her caliber, she would not get a grip on the gold medal.

Now we will play for the bronze medal against Germany. Though I’m quite disappointed at the moment, but at least a bronze medal is better then no medal.

Next up was when our basketball team took on Greece. From the first tip off right to the last shot, I could not breathe comfortably at all.
Just as I thought, the Greek were very dangerous and never gave much room for our boys, forcing them to score from behind the arc. Both sides were really close within each other all the times. Thank God that final shot did not go in! Or else….phew!

In the end, this was perhaps the best game throughout these games so far.

Manu GINOBILI lead the way with 24 points, 2 rebounds, 2 assists & 1 block shot. Carlos DELFINO also produced big numbers from the bench with 23 points, 7 rebounds & 2 steals. Andres NOCIONI and Luis SCOLA had 12 & 11 points respectively.

Now we will have to try to do something which is simply impossible. Hopefully.

Argentina-Greece was a hell of a game. Loved the way it came down to the final shot.

I feel that the four NBA horses are going to do the heavy lifting one way or the other. Prigioni and Kammerichs are the x-factors and are going to have to step up and surprise the US.

It's gonna be good.
