Mundo Albiceleste Pod - Ze Germans are waiting

After a long long time in which I couldn't find a moment to participate in our podcast, I'm back and I'm joined by Roy and John to discuss every aspect surrounding our national team while we wait for Argentina to take on Germany on Wednesday in Munich.

Plenty of new things going on here at Mundo Albiceleste and in this podcast edition we explain what we have in store for Wednesday's game. Make sure you visit Mundo in time to join us for our match coverage.

We read some of the e-mails we've been getting at mundo.albiceleste@gmail.com and we encourage you to keep writing to us.

We discuss this Nike 'undercover' campaign and preview what would be the starting lineup that Diego will pick to face Germany.

Great Podcast as always fellas. Hey Seba, isn't the 4 year anniversary of the blog coming up? I recall you were a correspondent for Soccernet for the 06 WC. Best Argentina Blog, keep up the good work!

Hi guys,

First of all I want to thank you so much for the podcast which I am listening to now. I am a big Argentina fan living in Australia. Your blog brings us all together from all parts of the world to discuss the national team.

As for the rumoured lineup, the two players that perhaps should not be there are Heinze and Veron.

Heinze makes too many mistakes. One that I can remember that he was lucky to get away with was agianst Mexico in the world cup where he gave the ball away then made a tackle that could easily have got him sent off. However I must say I am not sure who should replace him on the left. I saw Gabriel Milito play recently for Barca on the left in a back line of 3 defenders and I must say he looked sharp considering that he just came back after being 22 months away. Please let me know what you guys think about Milito on the left.

As for Veron, I think his days are over and I prefer Aimar. Also Pastore should be given a chance but it might be too much responsibility for him to become our playmaker considering his age and inexperience.

As for the Diego Milito issue, yes I believe he should be given a chance but Higuain should always be our main striker up front. Higuain has had an immidiate impact as shown in the Peru game. On the other hand, when Milito played for the NT, he did not impress. But I still think he should go to the WC coz his form has been outstanding and you cant ignore that. But it would be a good idea to try Milito and Higuain up front with Messi moved to the right wing. This will allow Messi to pick up the ball in midfield and run at defending to open up the defense to pass the ball to Di Maria or the two strikers up front.

Another formation that can be tested is similar to the one at Barca (3 strikers upfront) where Tevez can play on the left, Higuain in the middle and Messi on the right.

Some people might criticize the inclusion of Gutierrez in the starting line up but I think he is a player that we desperately need if we want to take on physical sides like Brazil and Germany. He is a hard worker, physically very strong and has got good pace.

I think our defense will look more solid in the Germany match than before. I am predicting a draw for this game as it will be a physical game because thats what we are used to seeing from the Germans.

Ok guys good luck for the game and will be discussing and analysing after the match. cheers.

Unfortinatly I won't be able to listen to the podcast until after the match nor will I be able to watch the match live but I will be able to catch a replay late in the night tonight. I found the rumored starting 11 list, basically what Diego used in training yesterday....

GK: ROMERO
DEFENCE: OTAMENDI-DEMECHELIS-SAMUEL-HEINZE
MIDFIELD: GUTIERREZ-MASCHERANO-VERON-DI MARIA
FORWARDS: MESSI-HIGUIAN

Again Maradona opts to go with a standard 4-4-2, not sure if I fully agree with the starting 11 or the formation but it is better than what we have seen in the past.

Prediction: 1-1 draw, I think this will be a good result for Argentina playing away from home and will help to gain some confidence in the squad.

Sam, welcome to the blog. Great post, it's like u took the words right out of my mouth. Especially with the higuain, milito partnership upfront, and Lionel on the right mid as an attacking mid.

I think we will suprise a lot of people today. I will only be able to catch the second half of the match. What time is the replay on at tonight?

FIFA released the updated world rankings today and Argentina fell one place from 8th to 9th. The FIFA world rankings is a load of shit anyways but I just thought I'd share with you guys.

Also, all three of our Group B rivals are in action today. Later today Nigeria takes on Congo while Korea and Greece already played with both surprising results in my opinion.

Korea Republic beat Ivory Coast 2-0
while Greece were defeated by Senegal 2-0.

Great pod like always, guys!
One thing I am thinking of is the speed of our defenders...or the lack of speed. Samuel, Demi and Heinze are all pretty slow. Against Podolski and Klose that could mean problems.
I am a bit negative, of course. Why shouldn't I be? My beloved Argentina hasn't done anything really good for a long time now......Germany will beat us 2-1 or 3-1.
See you.
