Leo & Pipita Celebrates Happy Hat-Trick Sunday

It is likely that the two of them will start up front for our National Team during the World Cup in South Africa. Well at least, after last Sunday; both are already flexing their muscle for their respective team as this season’s La Liga will go into intense finale in the two months.

Lionel MESSI to go first when Barcelona took on Valencia. Having manage to whether the storm in the first half, Barca turn it on in the second half with a hat-trick performance the little Flea. His first, an instant classic goals after taking possession from 30 yards, dancing past three players before clinical shot to give his side the lead. His next two were fine efforts from close range.

Next up, was Real Madrid villain of the week. After having being in the spotlight for all misleading reason, we all look forward to see what was Gonzalo HIGUAIN fate this weekend. As a true fan of Argentina, I don’t give a dammed at all how good was the first goal. The only thing that mattered for me in this game, is the fact that Pipita responded to all the critics with a hat trick as Real came away with 4-1 win over Valladolid. Period.

In Italy Serie A, Rodrigo PALACIO was on target for Genoa in their 5-3 win over Cagliari while Sergio ALMIRON had a goal in Bari’s 2-0 win over Lazio. In Portugal, Leandro GRIMI struck for Sporting Lisbon in their 3-0 win over Guimaraes. Lastly in Greece, Javier CAMPORA was the hero for Aris Salonika after scoring twice for them against city rivals PAOK.

do not forget Banega who had a very good game, although shadowed by the final result.

Fadi Dagher said...

Well, i disagree with you mohd on Banega. I think the match was too big for him and Messi made him look like a rookie. I think he lost any hope of going to the WC after this display. He had some nice touches, but was totally dominated by Barca midfield in the second half. He even had many wrong passes, one of which led to the third goal as i remember

Forza_albicelestes said...

Banega was brilliant.......Ran the midfield for Valencia against player like Xavi and iniesta.....
ALso Gabi was pretty good as well.

And do not forget Fazio performance yesterday....

GK said...

Odd how two people can have different opinions over two other people about the same player in the same game.... I also think Banega had a bad game. He really didn't do too much and he is the one who turned the ball over to Henry just before Messi's third goal. Not a good game at all for Ever.... In my opinion.

johnny said...

Not a great game for Banega for sure, but not horrible. Valencia felt the loss of Villa. How much better would Veron do against Xavi, Iniesta and the rest ?

Unknown said...

Banega -- against At Madrid and now against Barca, has shown to be a tad slow. He holds onto the ball too long, which is the classic mistake South Americans make when they are new in European teams. He's a great 'thinker' in a game, but he needs a bit more time. He would be toast against a prem. side.

Messi was divine yesterday. And even though I personally don't like Higauin, his resolve and competitiveness is admirable.

Mohd said...

for everyone saying Banega had a bad game. please define bad game for a deep playmaker player.

as Forza_albicelestes put it, this is how good how it gets when you are batteling with Messi, Xavi, and Iniesta. For me Banega did his job very well. Under enourmous preasure he distributed the ball very well and lets not forget some facts:
- Valencia dominated the first half completely. Banega and Silva did it
- at 1-0 Valencia missed a one-one with a move that Banega started. Immediately after they had a player sent-off and the match shifted.

for 60 minutes, Banega had a very good game. for the final 30 minutes all Valencia team were toasted.

Alex Camacho said...

All 3 of Messi's goals were very great. a small quibble but John is wrong in describing the 2 latter goals as close range, the second in particular showed superb accuracy from around the 18-yard line.

I too thought Milito did really well tho I fear that it is too late for him to make the WC squad

Forza_albicelestes said...

Have to agree wid Mohd on Banega....While this was not banega's best game but he was head & shoulders above the rest of his team mates....And after Valencia went down to 10 men there was nuthng he cud do...And the mispasses were due to the numerical supremacy of Barca.....But distribution wise Banega was top notch in the 1st half....

If Milito misses out that would be one of the worst injustices ever. Higuain had one of the most horrendous performances I have ever since. Now he has scored a hat-trick against a relgation threatened team and everyone is showering praise on him. All of those goals were extremely easy to say the least. He did what he does best, scoring against small/poor teams and becoming completely flop in big games. On the other hand, there is a guy named Diego Milito who scores consistently regarding of opponents, regarding of the teams he played for and still can't make a start. I am not trying to be a hater here and I am sure I will be bashed for my comment. But dear oh dear Higuain, how lucky u r. I am 99% sure maradona will start higuain and nothing can be done about maradona right now. But I urge Argentina fans to THINK and ANALYZE the records of these two players NEUTRALLY and come up to a conclusion that who deserves more to be our starting centre forward. Milito is the BEST Argentine striker right now and higuain shouldn't be starting in this world cup. If he can keep his form, he can start in next couple of world cups. But this world cup really should have been Milito's as our CF. Sorry higuain, u DON'T deserve it more than Milito. But u will still start coz u r LUCKY. LOL I am waiting to get bashed.

LM10ARG said...

One small thing to mention: I am NOT saying this coz I am a Barca fan or madrid hater. I REALLY hope Garay gets picked for our wc squad.

LM10..no offense here, but guessing from the way you analyze things, I'm pretty sure that u are a young kid. Well don't worry we love Milito and wish him the best, but Higuain is better. Jack gave the good stats about all the goals that Milito have scored this year. They are mostly against smaller teams. I think only all Milito's fans, all of his relatives and friends, and Inter teammates who think Milito is the best Argentina striker. But true Argentina fans and football fans who knows football would undoubtedly know that the best number 9 Argentina have is Gonzalo Higuain.

LM10ARG said...

Anonymous, calling me kid shows u how immature u r. So r u the only TRUE Argentina fan? What I said is my opinion and what u say is ur opinion. U called me a kid and I am sure u don even bother to watch games except reading the stats. I also wonder how old u r. But whatever, let's have a poll and find out what TRUE Argentina fans think. I am attracting one of the admins attention here. Can we have a poll to find out what TRUE Argentina fans think who is better? And Milito scores against small teams? I am sure u don't know he owned terry to score against chelsea.

Unknown said...

I don't know about Milito's stats. But the label of Higuain as a choker in big games is just not true.

Good strikers will always score against poor opposition. It drives me to distraction when people use that quality as somehow a drawback. But Higuain also scores in big games, and he always has. He scored against Barcelona, he scored the goal that gave RM the title 2 years ago. He's scored for Arg when given the chance. He's just a very good bet to have on a team. Milito is an excellent player, but he doesn't show the same form for the NT as he does for his club teams. We all know that he hasn't really been given half a chance, but Higuain hasn't been given half a chance with Diego either, and he's taken that half a chance and done a lot with it.

And I HATE Real Madrid. And I really do't like Higuain. Just trying to be really impartial here.

Sebastian said...

LM10ARG, I think Alex Camacho was referring to the other MILITO (Gabriel).

And I fear for Gabriel MILITO because I think Alex may be right there. I think it's probably too late for Gabriel, though I certainly hope not. He is a quality player and if not as first option at CB, I would love to have it as a sub and don't forget he can also play a part at LB or play in a back line of three if needed.

Nice to see Pipita rebounding like that after all the controversy.

MESSI? He is out of this world. If he doesn't shine for the NT it is not his fault. PERIOD.

LM10ARG said...

Paulina, Milito never got enought enough with NT. He play 15 min here, 20 min there. Never quite got consistent playing time. A striker needs to start and play for 60-90 mins to shine. Did Milito get that with NT? No and definitely not in recent times.

Alex Camacho said...

BTW, the Milito I was referring to was Gabi Milito, not Diego. I thought Gabi did a great job against Valencia.

FWIW, I want both in South Africa, as well as Higuain. I'm a big fan of Diego Milito, but I have to say that Higuain is impressive and right now should start (though of course that may change over the next few months). Both should be (and I think are) in the conversation with Maradona, a positive development as our only 2 true quality 9s.

In any event, I think Higuain v. Milito is the least of our concerns. There are many more problems in the lineup and squad than that (why an old Veron, no real enganche likely in the squad (Aimar, Pastore), his failure to even consider Lisandro, Lucho, Cambiasso, Zanetti (no older than Veron in a real problem position), or the aforementioned Gabi Milito. I'm a fan of Diego Milito but if he does not start that is not unreasonable.

We have much bigger things to worry about.

LMArg-

I told myself I would not get into a irrational debate with you, but you gave valid points this time around, and did not really troll on Pipita so I can respect your opinion.

You state a player needs to be on the pitch for 60-90 min to show his stuff correct? Well Pipita has the best goal scoring margin in the world per min. He plays 70min for Real Madrid and then gets subbed off by Raul,Benzema,VDV or somebody else. If there was no Pipita Higuain we would all want Diego Milito to start, and we would even want him to start with Higuain right now, but it is not up to us.

We can analyze and over analyze many things but at the end of the day it is not our call. If Milito was starting over Higuain right now, I would not have a problem by any means. We are going to be playing a oldschool method of football, that Bilardo started sometime back. I am afraid Milito may not have that pace to do so. He is a true #9 and needs service for his goals, Higuain can go and get his goals. You stated Higuain scored against a team that is in danger of relegation, but they are still goals, a hat-trick is not a easy task for any player.

I hope Milito will score hat-trick vs Chelsea and send them packing because I will root for my countries players to prosper and do well.Lets understand something though, at the end of the day Higuain is going to start.

Anonymous, u said at the end of the day higuain is going to start? Ok, yes I think so too. But what does that mean? Most probably gabriel heinze is gonna start as left back? But does he deserve to start? No. I think Veron will start too ahead of Banega/Pastore? Does he deserve it? No. Banega deserves it more. And I think otamendi will also start as right back? Does he deserve it more than Zanetti? No way. Similarly, higuain will start but he doesn't deserve it MORE than Diego Milito. I am sure any other coach except Maradona would start Milito over higuain any day but that's not gonna happen with maradona in charge. Trust me a lot of undeserving players will start for the NT this wc. But as a fan, I can only hope for the best with a disaster in charge.

LMArg.

I put my name on the bottom of my message.

Now you named should Heinze,Veron start or etc. For a lot of people Veron should start, Heinze is another story and to be honest he did not look so bad with Samuel/Micho next to him.

And you're saying if it was another coach they would start Milito over Higuain, according to whom? Bring me this stat or website that has been said that"Any coach will start Milito over Higuain". And I know you are going to bring up a Goal.Com article saying "he is the most underrated striker in the world". There are lot of underrated players we have that do not even get the call, i.e. Licha,Barrios(Maybe the most pure goal scorer we have, and he can not even get a call and may just opt for Paraguay),Saviola and I can continue. Just back up your statements with proof not your opinion.

Has Higuain done nothing wrong while playing for Argentina? I don't think so, the guy has had a few chances and made the most of them. It is something you just have to deal with that Milito never got his chance, if it was with Pekerman,Basile,Diego. He had to play second fiddle for most of his international career, behind Crespo and now behind Higuain.

Just be happy that we have such a deep team and we can have this debate. Milito/Higuain are both at the top of the table in goal scoring in their respective leagues. Messi/Higuain can finish 1&2 in the goal scoring race in La Liga.

LM10ARG said...

Ok jack, Higuain has played 4 games with Argentina scroing 2 goals. He scored a 1 on 1 goal against peru after missing two sitters I would say. And the goal against germany, he simply couldn't miss it but still almost missed it. U think higuain should start and I think Milito should start without any doubt. Just because maradona will start higuain over milito doesn't make him the better one. I also mentioned the fact about maradona playing otamendi as a right-back which u ignored. He even played coloccini as a right-back against spain. Are they anywhere near Zanetti??? To ME, higuain is not even close to Milito but that's MY opinion. As I said before, it would be good if we had a poll here to find out who the fans think is a better STRIKER. I stressed the word STRIKER. Higuain can be a better winger than milito but he is surely not a better striker than Milito. We have our wings pretty much settled in Messi and Di Maria. We need a predator in the box and Milito kicks ass.

Anonymous said...

LM10ARG at the moment but only just its higuain and the stats prove it, milito is a fine player but at the moment milito is no 2 behind hig.
i would actually like them both to start up front but im not picking the team.
spain is a much stronger lge as is england but the italian lge getting left behind and sadly thats where milito is.

LM10ARG said...

pablo d, ur argument is flawed. U know why? Italian league is a much more defensive league than la liga and it's very hard to score in italy. At real madrid, they have players to present higuain with chances on his plate. Not so with inter milan. They have good attacking players but not so much as real madrid has. La Liga is very attacking and seria is very defensive which makes Milito even more glorified. He always scored no matter what even when he played for minnows like zaragoza and genoa. I really wonder how many goals higuain will score if he plays for a small team like zaragoza or genoa where he doesn't get presented with chances on his plate. Milito's spells with zaragoza and genoa tells a lot about his greatness as a striker.

Anonymous said...

LMArg-

He almost mist two sitters, and then scored. All players miss chances it happens, lets not bring up Milito's chance vs Brasil which could of cut the game to 3-2 and made a game out of it. It happens.

You stated"I also mentioned the fact about maradona playing otamendi as a right-back which u ignored." Why would I bring this up, now you're going to nitpick everything I write? Does Diego make foolish judgments on certain players? Yes! but Diego putting Higuain in front of Milito is not a foolish judgment because Higuain is producing, if you stated Palermo is the starting striker then I would agree with you. Higuain's roll is not a winger, why would he play as a winger? He can freelance without a problem but his job is to score he has 19 goals in La Liga and zero coming from the PK spot.So the man can score goals as a CF.

You want Milito as the predator in the box, that would be great if we were playing the same style of 2006, but we are not.

Jack!

LMARG-

For your response to that Serie A is so much more a defense league? I will pull out some stats for you.

28 Serie A games for each team and a total of 718 goals.

26-La Liga games, 689.

2 games in hand average out to 2 goals, La Liga in total may have about 50 more goals ahead of them as a whole I would not say that is so far ahead of them.

Lets look at the middle of the table between La Liga and Serie A, shall we?

8th Place In La Liga- Getafe 34 goals and 32 allowed in 26 games.

8th place in Serie A Napoli who have 36 goals and 34 allowed in Serie A in 28 games.

9th Place La Liga- Scored 38 and allowed 37 in 26 games.

9th Place In Serie A- Callergi- 28 games scored 46 allowed 41.

10th Place in La Liga. ATL Madrid scored 39 and allowed 38 in 26 games.

10th place Serie A- 36 and 34 in 28 games.

With 2 games in hand and average out 2/2.5 more goals lets say for La Liga, these numbers are not that different and seem to be a lot more even then you imagine.

Do not look at Real Madrid/Barca who have blasted 71/64 Goals a piece, because those teams are built to smash all types of records. Always look at the middle of the table to get your medium.

Plus the two that are on top of La Liga have an insane amount of money invested in players, the Italian top teams can not match that.

Like I have told you before, you make statements bring out numbers and quotes, or your arguments falls into pieces.

How funny you are debating who's better between Diego Milito and Gonzalo Higuain. Stop comparing them. Higuain still 22 and will improve and Milito in his peak career. Both of them good striker. But one thing for sure. They're nothing if don't have enough ball supply from their team mates. The problem in NT not lying on striker capability. But in middle area and team work. Milito/Higuain would be sharp and optimal if Veron, Maria, Mascherano, Guitterez, Messi work as a unit and give them smart pass. Just give them killer pass and they will finish it. Let's hope Maradona do his job excellent and smooth so Argie could reach final. Stop complain about Maradona. He's gonna be in SA. Period. Anyway, in recent days/week, media keep talking about Wayne Rooney. They (UK media especially) create stories bout how good Rooney is and put him in a same level as Messi, bla bla bla. Well, I like Rooney. He's good player. But it's sound England make propaganda that they gonna win WC and Rooney will surprass Messi (individual capabilities aspects). Ridiculous...Messi has give them the answer. Wonderful hat-trick against Sevilla prove them that Messi from the other planet. He still the best!

Anonymous said...

If you want a polling, there was a polling back then in ole.com.ar for the best right back for Argentina. Zanetti, Burdisso, Coloccini, Zabaleta, Clemente, and Angeleri were all there. Guess who won? Clemente Rodriguez. More than millions took parts. Do you agree with that? Why do you think that polling is the best way to decide if someone is better than the other? No...the best way is their performances on the pitch.
You're saying that Higuain isn't a number 9? I first thought the same, but it changed 2 years ago when he started in a friendly game in a u-23 match against Guatemala where he played number 9 and scored 2 goals with 2 assists in a game that we won 6-0. If he's not one of the best number 9 in the world, if not the best, the likes of Madrid who seem to be able to lure any players in the world, would surely be interested a new striker. That's not the case, though...they even got rid of Nistelrooy, and benched Raul and Benzema, 2 players who were supposed to be ahead of Higuain in the beginning of the season.

Higuain isn't a Inzaghi or Crespo or Milito type of striker. He's more like Pato or Ronaldo (luis da lima) type of players. Just because Higuain is speedy doesn't mean that he's not a number 9. 1 goal in 77 minutes is the answer!

I totally disagree with what you say that any coaches in the world would choose Milito over Higuain. No...I think the only striker worth more than Higuain for a club like Madrid are only: Messi and Rooney. That's all...Ibra, Drogba, Eto'o, Suarez, Dzeko, Gomez, Pato, Villa, Torres, Tevez, and last but not least, Diego Milito is behind him in world's best forward. That's the fact. I'm not talking childish here (e
xagerrating something without any proof).

Wayne Rooney is thier only hope.. England will flop at the world cup, just like every world cup. Comparing Rooney to Messi is a joke.. It just goes to show how lost the English are.

LM10ARG said...

I have seen Milito's miss against brazil. Cesar closed him down very quickly and if Milito chiiped it, there were already a couple of defenders behind Cesar to back up. It was no way as glaring as higuain's misses last week. It was a good save by the keeper rather than a miss by Milito. Well someone said Milito is at his peak and higuain will only get better since he is 22. But shouldn't we pick a predator like Milito who is at his pick and let him show his worth rather than someone who is inconsistent (based on his performance on both big games against lyon) yet to be at his best??? Higuain can easily start in next 2 WCs being Milito's understudy this year. Anyways I am not gonna debate over this anymore. I am 1 billion percent convinced that Milito is far better than higuain. He deserves it MORE than higuain. And that's MY opinion. I will keep praying and keep hoping till the last moment that Milito gets the nod ahead of higuain. Good debating and thanks to everyone.

44 of Pipita's 51 goals in La Liga have come in the last 2 seaons lol. His emergence has happened in the last couple years. I understand you're a bit upset about the Serie A not being so much more "defensive" and you can not use that flawed statement anymore.

Samuel was incredible today. He got in front of every shot possible, stole the ball several times and if he wasn't able to do that he still managed to clear the ball out of play on any Chelsea attack. Cambiasso and Zanetti were solid as always just like Jack said but again I really have to say that I'm disappointed with Milito's performance today. I couldn't believe the number of times he found himself offside. Hopefully in the quarter finals he will be more calm, less excited and find the back of the net.... again!

Inter-Chelsea proves that any striker can miss chances. Milito missed an easy one. Even Etoo who turned out to be the hero missed tow very easy chances.

Milito or Higuain, both are good. both will score and both will miss. I would still go with Milito though by a small margin.

Cambiasso was great. and Zanetti was..well he's Zanetti; enough said!

Congrats Inter. Chelsea are one of the most unlikable teams in the world. I mean who could ever like Terry, Ballack, and Drogba?! They should square up in the same team with Ronaldo...now that would be fun to watch :)

That's 103 more goals than serie a. Man, r u that cheap??? I came up with my stats to show Milito has a better goal per game ratio than higuain despite playing for a LONGER time than higuain. We have seen many wonderkids banging in with goals only to disappear after a couple of seasons. I am not saying I want that to happen with Higuain but consistency is the key which Milito has shown throughout. The more games a player plays, the more significant the goals per game ratio becomes. I am waiting for another joke of a response from u. Something filled with more lies.

LM10Arg: I ain't got anything against Milito, In fact I wish he could start upfront with Higuain, but to say that Milito is a billion times better than Higuain is wrong.
Let me ask you something and i need a straight answer from you, Milito now is 31, where was he 10 years ago?? was he playing for one of the most demanding clubs in world football?
I knew Higuain was Crespo's successor ever since i watched a match for him in River, right before he moved to Real.
Don't get me wrong, Milito's amazing right now, and he's been like that for 5 years now, but Higuain is our future, we need him to gain experience from this Wc because he'll be there in 2014.
Both are amazing strikers nowadays but as of this season, Higuain has the better goal/game stats.
If Seba puts up a poll between whose better, Milito or Higuain, It would be really tough for me to decide but i think Pipita would be my vote.

messidona19 said...

One more thing, Higuain has more desire to win the world cup, He said it many times in his life that he wants to play and win the world cup, even before he was even selected, he always used to say that he had a dream to play for us and he rejected France to play for us. Recently he said that he dreams of getting the Golden Boot this summer. You gotta admire his desire to succeed.

1. Milito did have his chance before. In Copa America, he was supposed to be the back up of Crespo. Then Crespo got injured, Milito started. But then Tevez proved that he was better. That's why Milito got benched again. Milito only scored a goal and it was kinda a lucky goal during the tournament.
2. He did get a start against Norway too in a friendly and didn't play good. So it's not that he didn't get any chance with Argentina. Crespo's situation was different, though. In 2002, he was still behind Bati, but he always delivered when given a chance.
3. Maradona first wanted Aguero to be his number 9. He wasn't that bad, then he preferred Tevez. In between that, he tried Milito, but he always disapponted. Never scored any. Then Maradona discovered Higuain who seems to fit the team. As a reminder, we're no longer looks for a number 9. We have that in Higuain already. Milito would come in handy when facing PK shootout in the WC but not as a reliable number 9. His goal/game ratio for Argentina is horrible for a number 9. He's the complete opposite of Figueroa. Figueroa scores 9 in 15 games with Argentina despite never playing that good for his club.
4. Milito reminds me of Juan Esnaider...a real scorer in la liga, but not for the national team.
5. Milito doesn't have super-sub ability ala Tevez or Palermo. So I don't know...to tell u the truth, I wouldn't be surprised if he never plays at all in the WC. If I'm not wrong, Messi, Higuain. Tevez, Aguero, and Palermo are all ahead of him in Maradona's pecking order.
6. Higuain isn't that popular with the fans because he once rejected a call-up of the youth national team, but he starts to convince others what he can do now.
7. The hardest/toughest position to start in the world is being Argentina forwards. Milito could easily start for the likes of England (with Rooney) or Germany (with Klose/Podolski), Portugal (with CR9), Italy (with Di Natale), Holland (with Robben), France (with Henry) or even Brazil (with Robinho). Only two teams that he's good enough to be a starter: Spain and Argentina. Simply because Villa, Torres, Messi, and Higuain are all better.

Cheers.

Anonymous (last poster), how can you say that Milito was bad when he played for Argentina? It's been repeated over and over again on this site and i'll say it again, MILITO WAS NEVER GIVEN A FAIR AMOUNT OF PLAYING TIME TO PROVE HIMSELF!! I mean look at Tevez, he always played the full match without having any impact whereas Milito only played 10 minutes of every match!

As we at Mundo have said again and again, we do not entertain neither endorse comments that contain abusive and foul language against fellow fan of Argentina.

Yes, feel free to disagree. No need to insult one another. Remember, we are here for the same reason.

Now I don't know if my internet's slow, but I don't beleive that no one at least commented on Messi's amazing performance in the C.L yesterday where he scored 2 amazing goals!

Messidona19-just more of the same from Messi ! I hope he stays at the top of his game for years. As much as some people dislike him, when the inevitable happens and his game suffers a little, those haters will be out in droves.

Hey, if you want to hate somebody, hate John Terry !

Two nice articles about our 2 most mportant starting players in the world cup.
On another note, I really hope Gabi Milito makes the Wc squad, this guy is world class. I even rate him better than Demichelis.
