Australian Open - DEL POTRO First To The Quarters

Juan Martin DEL POTRO became the first player from the men’s single to book a place in the quarter-finals of the Australian Open. The eighth seeded Delpo defeated Marin CILIC from Croatia convincingly 5-7, 6-4, 6-3 & 6-2.

In a match dominated by big hits and serves, it was a low unforced error count that helped DEL POTRO on the way to his first Melbourne Park quarterfinal appearance, and only his second in any Grand Slam since last year‘s US Open.

Now awaiting him in the last eight, is the winner between non other than former world No.1 Roger FEDERER and Tomas BERDYCH. As of now, the Tomas has defeated Fedex in the first set 6-4 and is down in the second 2-3.
Will we have an upset here?

Amazing effort from Tomas for pushing RFed in five sets! JMDP-Federer in the quarters, that would be a tough match for sure.

Hey again John :P

I think Federer has far too many angles and range of shots for Delpo to handle, but if Fed has another off day (like today) then Delpo can overpower him and take the match. He was quite impressive against Cilic in the heat, so let's hope he gets a day match :P If it's a night match, I'd have to give the advantage to Federer.

Hi everyone...

The key for me will be the first set. Del Po will have to set a high first serve percentage to earn some free points as Berdych did in the first 2 sets. If Del Potro plays agressively right from the beginning, especially during Fed services games, then he could go a break up and win the first set. I think Fed starts his matches a bit slowly at the moment and Del Potro will have to size his early opportunities. I think that Del Potro is mentally stronger than Berdych too, so it's in his reach... If he starts well. Otherwise, it will be another Fed Express match.
Well, cheers,

The Kangaroo

yes, I agree with l'equipe, Del Potro has to play agressivily from the beginning, but, from my point of view, Federer is playing better than Del Potro right now and Delpo's mind is not ready for this match, so I don´t expect a surprise.
