MESSI Steers Barca’s Revenge

Lionel MESSI continues to stake his claim as the today’s World’s Best Player with another vintage performance against Numancia. Barcelona badly needed this type of result against the promoted side after suffering a shock lost at the opening day of the season.

Nevertheless it took a while for the party to start at the Camp Nou, as Lionel missed several chances. The deadlock was finally broken in the 50th minute, Daniel ALVES brilliantly flicked the ball over his marker and headed across goal to where MESSI was waiting to glance a deft shot past Juan Pablo COLINAS.

Later on he became the provider, skipping past two challengers to set up Thiery HENRY to score Barca’s third goal of the night. Eventually, it was MESSI who ended the show. He waltzed past several defenders in the area and rolled the ball into the empty net after his original effort was parried against him by COLINAS.

In Portugal, FC Porto regain their lead at the top of the league with a 2-0 win over Braga. Lisandro LOPEZ took advantage of a slip by Braga defender to shoot past the goalkeeper to score Porto‘s second goal of the match.

Luciano GALLETTI came off the bench to score the winner as defending champion Olympiakos beat visiting OFI Crete 2-1 to extend its lead in the Greek Super League.
