The squad vs. Egypt: CAVENAGHI & LICHA confirmed

Fernando CAVENAGHI and Lisandro LOPEZ are back in the National Team after Coco BASILE confirmed the squad list that will play against Egypt on March 26th at Cairo. Julio CRUZ also gets his chance by being picked over Diego MILITO.

It remains to be seen who will take RIQUELME's role in this match or whether if Coco will have to change the tactics.

Goalkeepers: Roberto ABBONDANZIERI, Oscar USTARI and Sergio ROMERO.

Defenders: Javier ZANETTI, Martín DEMICHELIS, Gabriel MILITO, Gabriel HEINZE, Nicolás BURDISSO, Fabricio COLOCCINI and Pablo ZABALETA.

Midfielders: Javier MASCHERANO, Fernando GAGO, Esteban CAMBIASSO, Maximiliano RODRIGUEZ and Luis "Lucho" GONZÁLEZ.

Forwards: Lisandro LÓPEZ, Sergio AGÜERO, Julio CRUZ, Ezequiel LAVEZZI and Fernando CAVENAGHI.

Thanks for the list Seba!!!

Here is my take on the first eleven (in my opinion that is)

I do believe that either USTARI or ROMERO should be given a chance but knowing Coco, I guess he is just going to stick with Pato to guard the post.

In defense, my preferred back four will ZABALETA-DEMICHELIS-MILITO-HEINZE.

Why I choose ZABALETA because I believe age is catching up on ZANETTI and maybe it's time for a change.

However I'm a bit concern on the left, as it looks like we don't have that much of an option these days.

In midfield, Maxi RODRIGUEZ is the undisputed king of the right wings, so he is a sure start.

If not then maybe he can be switched to play on left and let Lucho take control on the right.

In center, I would prefer Fernando GAGO and Javier MASCHERANO.

Javier to do all the ball winning & defensive work and Fernando will provide the REDONDO type of spark in attack.

Up front, as I've mentioned before I want to see something new and fresh, it comes no better than CAVENAGHI and LOPES.

Both have been on fire for their club there can't be any better reason than that.

I know others might be wondering where is Kun but since it is only a friendly match, so lets keep our option open shall we.

Thank you Seba.

I saw somewhere that it's on the 26th March? Anyway, like your line up John and I'm eager to see Cavenaghi and Lopez up front.

Haven't seen much of Romero since YWC and Ustari played second fiddle to Pato in club level but yeah, Coco should give chances to new guys to guard the post.

Do we think that Carlitos might be in Coco's doghouse ? I thought there was clearly something going on not long after the Copa. I am not defending Coco or Carlitos and I am happy to see some other guys get a shot, but what does everyone think about this ?

I think Coco wants to give the other guys some chance to play for Argentina.

I do believe Carlitos will return to the team once the WC qualifier gets underway.

I'm surprise why he wasn't interested in calling up Angel DI MARIA? We don have to many defensive midfielders in that team.

And I almost forget, I would love to see Maxi being given the captain armband this time.

It's the same as I've had on ZABALETA, it's time for some change.

I'm very happy for Lucho and Licha. They are playing very very well in my team Porto. Both deserve this chance in Argentina national team. They are two big stars in the portuguese championship.

Cheers.

I stand corrected, andaman. It's the 26th and not the 23rd as I wrote in the first place. I'll change it now.

I like your lineup, John, but I don't see AGÜERO not starting. He is also on fire and I don't know if Coco will decide to start with LICHA and CAVEGOL.

As for Carlitos, I've heard that Coco won't call him for the time being because TEVEZ told him he needs a rest. It's been 3 consecutive seasons without a proper preseason for Carlitos and it's starting to get to him.

Also...have in mind Carlitos is suspended for our next WC Qualifier and so he is dispensable for this friendly against Egypt.
