Argentina to tour the USA in June?

It's not exactly a long tour and it's not confirmed yet, but RENOVA, the Russian company that manages Argentina's agenda of friendly matches is reportedly working on booking a couple of matches in the USA in June.

The rivals?

Mexico in San Diego, USA. (June 4)

USA in New York, USA. (June 8)

My first impression is a good one. With a number of low-profile rivals coming up (and after playing Guatemala, for example), I'd welcome a clash with the always dangerous Mexicans and the interesting team that is the USA.

In other news, Alfio BASILE will name next Tuesday the squad of players that will face African champions, Egypt on March 26.

There could be a chance for in-form strikers such as Lisandro LOPEZ (Porto), Julio CRUZ (Inter) and Fernando CAVENAGHI (Bordeaux).

I would love to see some of the other strikers. Certainly no slam to the guys we all know, but new faces are always interesting. Coco gets a chance to see how they react to international play, and helps with decisions in the future. You never know when one of the top guys might be injured. I hope Cruz is fit enough to get a chance.

I am all geared up for Champions League play today and tomorrow. Let's hope Messi and Carlitos, not to mention many others, take the opportunity to shine in the spotlight !

Boy, what a sad sight seeing Messi come off the pitch in tears after another injury. Do the powers that be allow you wrap up a thigh when playing ? If so, in the future Messi's thighs ought to look like a mummy.

Yeah I got really worried when he got pulled out early. Look if its not his ankle, or knee he should be fine. Someone said he is out for the season, but a MRI that quick? Doubt it, but lets hope he can come back soon. Nobody can replace him! I just hope something like this does not happen a month or 2 before the WC, a whole nation would be crushed and world of footbal.

Coach Rik says its not as bad as it looked.

The Dutch coach was evidently concerned, but stated that it was not quite as serious as the player's reaction led many to be believe.

While the club confirmed Messi has torn his hamstring, Rijkaard said that the injury distracted his side from playing at their best after he went off seven minutes before the break.

"What happened to Messi affected us all night because he has suffered injuries before and every player knows what it means to pick up receive a blow," he explained.

"It is not as serious as it first appeared.

"He is a very important player for us and it is a sad moment."

Messi suffered the same injury two seasons ago and that forced him to miss out as Rijkaard's team went on to win the Champions League in Paris.

"The injury is very bad news. It is normal that he is sad. He has a muscular problem that he has suffered before and he knows what it means," the coach continued.

"My main concern is the health of players. If I think a player is at risk then it would have to be a really special game to play."
