NBA News - Manu Stings the Hornets

Shortly after dispatching the Suns, the San Antonio Spurs prove their championship credential with another strong win over the New Orleans Hornets. While much of the attention was focus on both Tony PARKER and Chris PAUL during the Spurs 106-93 win.

It was Manu GINOBILI poster-worthy dunk over Hilton ARMSTRONG that made the home crowd erupt. After all, the emphatic jam isn’t what Spurs fans are used to seeing.

“It took me 45 games, but it finally came,” Manu said. “I’m glad that I could finally explode and go hard at the rim and get a nice dunk.”

Manu produced another huge performance with 22 points, 3 rebounds, 5 assists and 2 steals. Though the injury that he suffered at the start of the season might have slowed him down, he still proves to bring in the big numbers when it matters. Fabricio OBERTO did see much action, posting just 2 points and 1 rebound.

The Phoenix Suns must be feeling a bit down after having lost to the Spurs. And they were still effected by it as they went down at home again, this time to Andres NOCIONI’s Chicago Bulls. Chapu had his part of the game with 11 points and a rebound from the bench.

The good news from the Tall Albiceleste continues with a 110-93 win for the Houston Rockets over the Golden State Warriors. Luis SCOLA fell short for a double-double finish with 9 points, 8 rebounds & a steal.

U20: A Third Straight Draw For Young Argentina

Argentina and Paraguay fought out a 1-1 draw in the inaugurating match of the hexagonal round of the U-20 South American Championship. This was Sergio BATISTA side third consecutive draw.

After much pressure, Young Albiceleste finally broke the deadlock in the 48th minute, when Jonathan CRISTALDO found the back of the net with a shot on the turn. Paraguay drew level in the 61st minute, after piling intense pressure on the Argentina goal. Hernan PEREZ beat Diego RODRIGUEZ with a sublime chipped effort.

Poncho & Napoli Also Settle For a Draw

Udinese came from two goals down to deny Napoli victory in a thriller at Stadio San Paolo. German DENIS was the architect of Napoli's opener, his run down the left culminating with a pass into Ezequiel LAVEZZI whose shot took a deflection off Aleksandar LUKOVIC on its way into the net in the 24th minute.

In Greece, Roberto BATTION was the hero for Aris Salonika after scoring the winner in their 1-0 win over Iraklis.

NBA News – Manu Still Hot in Phoenix

Believe me when I say this, watching a SA Spurs/Phoenix Suns game can be intense as watching Barcelona playing Real Madrid. Once again, for the third time this season, both teams played an extraordinary game of basketball.

Suns fans must be relishing this moment when their bitter rival was coming to town. Or did they?Just like in previous meeting between these two teams, Manu GINIBOLI seems too hot for the Suns to handle. He was aggressive throughout the game. He had the most fun. He made 18 free throws, setting a franchise record for foul shots in a game without a miss, and finished with 30 points plus 9 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 steals.

“I had a good start and my confidence went up,” he said. “My focus was to get to the rim. I found a lot of lanes to the rim.”

As always the atmosphere in the US Airways Center can be tough if you’re playing with a black jersey. But that did not stop Manu and his Spurs posse from bagging another big win on the road.

The Prince Spoils Beckham’s Party

Much of the spotlight was on the former England captain regarding his permanent stay in Milan rather than returning to Los Angeles for the new MLS season. Against Genoa, Becks got everyone’s attention again, scoring his first goal at the San Siro, with a typical trademark free kick.

Just as when he thought that he could have had a happy ending, the Prince of Genoa arrives to save the day. After missing numerous of chances, Diego MILITO finally beats Christian ABBIATI to score his 13th goal of the season. He strike it at the far post after Raffaele PALLADINO's right-wing cross had been headed down by Giuseppe BIAVA.

Mario SANTANA was on target for Fiorentina, as they defeated Napoli (with Ezequiel LAVEZZI in the starting line up) 2-1.

NBA News – Free Throwing Manu To The Rescue

Everyone knows how tough it can be to come away with a win in Utah. The crowd at the Energy Solutions Arena is often regarded one of the loudest and rowdiest. So the 107-100 it was a well deserved win for the San Antonio Spurs against the Jazz.

Throughout the night, Manu GINOBILI was having shooting trouble and was kept at bay until he made his first free throw in the third quarter. But thanks to his consistent in making important free shots, clutch rebounds and assists, the Spurs victory on the road.

Manu was 6-for-6 from the line in the final 24 seconds and 11-for-12 in the game. He posted 13 points, 9 rebounds, 5 assists plus a game high of 4 steals and one block shot. In the initial stage, Fabricio OBERTO had a much better start posting 4 points and 2 rebounds.

U20: Young Argentina Draw Again, But Advance

Young Argentina scraped into the final six of the U-20 South American Championship after fighting out an exciting 2-2 draw with Ecuador. Sergio BATISTA side dominated early in the match, with some exciting attacking football, that allowed them to create a number of clear-cut opportunities.

In the 32nd minute, Cristian GAITAN appeared with a good finish inside of the area to give Argentina side an important advantage. However, only seven minutes later Jefferson PINTO drew the Ecuadorians level when he beat Diego RODRIGUEZ with a well placed header from a free-kick.

After the break both sides created enough opportunities to score, but although Argentina dominated the midfield, Ecuador were the more dangerous side when moving forward to the attack. In the 77th minute Ecuador went ahead for the first time, when Juan ANANGONO connected to a Jefferson MONTERO free-kick with a powerful header.

But within one minute, Ivan BELLA equalized for Argentina with a superb finish after a fine individual move. The midfielder was sent off for a second bookable offence after his goal celebration.

TEVEZ Scores In United Rout Over WBA

Carlos TEVEZ celebrates his recent call up from Diego MARADONA with another fine outing for Manchester United. Sir Alex summoned the little fella to the starting line up again in place of the injured Wayne ROONEY. Just a minute before the interval a mistake by Scott CARSON led to TEVEZ scoring United's second of the game. The England keeper failed to hold onto an in swinging Ryan GIGGS free-kick and a grateful Carlitos smashed the loose ball into the roof of the net.

SAMUEL is Diego's biggest surprise for France

Diego MARADONA announced the European-based player that will represent Argentina in our friendly match against France (11 February, Marseille).

The biggest surprise is the return of Walter SAMUEL after more than two years since his last match with the Albiceleste (0-3 in a friendly match in London v. Brazil, September 2006. First match of BASILE's last tenure).

As announced before by MARADONA, Lionel MESSI will be allowed by FC Barcelona to play in that match and it'll be the first time Diego will coach him.

Injured last time around when Argentina faced Scotland in Diego's first game in charge, talented Angel DI MARIA gets his chance.

A pair from Porto (Lucho GONZALEZ and Lisandro LOPEZ) and a pair from Napoli (Ezequiel LAVEZZI and German DENIS) are included, while captain MASCHERANO was never a doubt for MARADONA.

Carlitos TEVEZ and Kun AGÜERO, two players close to the manager's heart, are also on the list.

Apart from the 20 players he named today, it is expected that in the next few days, MARADONA will call up players from the domestic league (Juan Roman RIQUELME and Juan Sebastian VERON expected to be amongst them).

Here are the 20 confirmed players:

Goalkeepers:
Juan Pablo CARRIZO (Lazio)
Sergio ROMERO (AZ Alkmaar)

Defenders:
Javier ZANETTI (Inter)
Martin DEMICHELIS (Bayern Munich)
Gabriel HEINZE (Real Madrid)
Daniel DIAZ (Getafe)
Nicolas BURDISSO (Inter -soon to be transferred to Tottenham Hotspur???-)
Walter SAMUEL (Inter)

Midfielders:
Javier MASCHERANO (Liverpool)
Fernando GAGO (Real Madrid)
Maximiliano RODRIGUEZ (Atletico Madrid)
Jonas GUTIERREZ (Newcastle United)
Luis GONZALEZ (Porto)

Forwards:
Lionel MESSI (FC Barcelona)
Sergio AGÜERO (Atletico Madrid)
Carlos TEVEZ (Manchester United)
Ezequiel LAVEZZI (Napoli)
Lisandro LOPEZ (Porto)
German DENIS (Napoli)
Angel DI MARIA (Benfica)

No Match For Del Potro Against Fedex

A huge expectation that became that was not to be. Well I guess the class between a former World No.1 and upcoming star was well written in the game. I have to admit that our boy Juan Martin DEL POTRO was no match for Roger FEDERER.

FEDERER prove he just have what it takes to be in big matches like this as he cruised past Delpo to a straight set win, 6-3, 6-0 & 6-0. There was a good fight in the first set but since then Fedex took control and cruised in a speed of a bullet. DEL POTRO had no answer to anything that was replied by FEDERER.
DEL POTRO said “No. I cannot do nothing. He play like No. 1 of the world. He has a good night. I have to improve to play against them”

I can’t complained much considering the class of FEDERER that DEL POTRO has to put up but he is still young and has a long way to go.

Well I guess for us at Mundo, that’s about it from the Australian Open. Next up is Roland Garros. In the meantime, G’dday from Down Under.

NBA News - SCOLA Steps In For YAO

Traveling to a place like Auburn Hills, the Houston Rockets must learn how to win without their star center YAO Ming. They did just that. Noted that both Tracy McGRADY and Ron ARTEST were back in the starting line up but special mentioned must also be given to Luis SCOLA.

It’s not like SCOLA never experienced such role before. He did took over the mantle from YAO, when he was injured last season. And his team were on a 20 games winning spree.
SCOLA was there for the Rockets again. He contributed big for the Rockets, posting 21 points, 5 rebounds & 3 assists. A win like this might just give the rest of the Western Conference something to think about.

Oh yes! Where is Walter HERRMANN from the Detroit’s bench?

Another big game of the night, was between two Western Conference giants the Los Angeles Lakers and the San Antonio Spurs. Most certainly a night to be forgotten for Manu GINOBILI.

He was extremely poor, posting just 9 points, 8 rebounds, 1 assist & 2 steals. Despite posting 8 points, 5 rebounds & 2 steals, Fabricio OBERTO could do neither much in the Spurs quest.

Once again, the Chicago Bulls fell in the last hurdle against the Minnesota Timberwolves losing 108-109. Andres NOCIONI manages 15 points, 6 rebounds, 1 assist & 1 steal.

Gong Xi Fa Cai!!!

Happy Chinese New Year and Gong Xi Fa Cai to all our Chinese Albiceleste supporters.

Here are the goals from the South American U20 game between Argentina and Colombia

And here is the goal scored by Diego MILITO for Genoa against Catania

Hold on just sec. We do have more…..

Jose Ignacio CASTILLO scored for Lecce in their thrilling 3-3 draw with Torino.

Plenty action coming from Greece.

Asteras Tripoli defeated Levadiakos 2-0 with both goals from Lucio FILOMENO.

Ismael BLANCO and Ignacio SCOCCO were on target for AEK Athens in their 3-0 win over Panionios.

While Thrasivoulous settled for a 1-1 draw at home against FC Xanthi. Federico MARTORELL scored for the home side first, while Mauro POY equalized for the visitors.

U20: Argentina 2-2 Colombia. SALVIO saves day

Three matches, three goals conceded inside the first 5 minutes (one of them in the 2nd minute -v. Venezuela- and another in the 1st tonight against Colombia).

In all three matches, BATISTA's boys fought back and earned points, but those early distractions could lead to unwanted troubles as the tournament progresses.

Right after kick-off, Colombia went ahead through Marco PEREZ. He even scored another one in the first half and Colombia looked odds on to win the match and move to the top of the standings.

The brave Albicelestes had other plans. Leandro VELAZQUEZ made it 1-2 before the break and the mercurial Eduardo SALVIO connected a glorious header to make it 2-2 and save a point for Argentina.

Now Argentina and Colombia both lead Group A with 5 points each. BATISTA's boys will face Ecuador next, looking for a win to advance to the next round.

The Prince MILITO returns with a goal

"Il principe" (the Prince) as they call him in Italy, came back from injury to help Genoa earn a draw against Catania.

Still looking to return to match fitness, MILITO earned all the praises after his second-half strike, helped Genoa get something out of their difficult fixture against the Sicilians.

This is a translation of what the prestigious Italian sports newspaper La Gazzetta dello Sport had to say about Diego MILITO:

"These are the situations in which the star playrs make the difference: because at the first opportunity with a loose ball in the area, MILITO, still not in optimal physical conditions, was at the right place and scored with the right touch."

Somebody gives a tape of that goal to Mr. MARADONA!

Now excuse me for being biased with my next paragraph:

My beloved Racing Club back in Argentina, can't buy a goal, but two of the best products of the club's youth system can't be stopped in Europe: Lisandro LOPEZ and Diego MILITO.

Oh...how much I miss them!

MESSI: "I will NEVER leave FC Barcelona"

Just like that, Lionel MESSI dismissed the rumours suggesting he would be bought by non-other than Real Madrid.

When asked about his opinion, MESSI said: "I will never leave FC Barcelona. I've been here since I was a little boy. This is my home and I'm very happy playing here. I guess I'll only leave if someone at Barcelona fires me".

Lionel showed yesterday, when he scored twice against Numancia, that he means what he said later, as he kissed Barcelona's badge during his celebration.

KAKA pledged his future to AC Milan, now MESSI does the same with Barcelona. I must admit I'm quite happy to see some true stars that not only go chasing the big money and they let their hearts decide. That's a good thing for football.

If only Argentine clubs would have enough money to help some players choose with their hearts...

Australian Open - DEL POTRO First To The Quarters

Juan Martin DEL POTRO became the first player from the men’s single to book a place in the quarter-finals of the Australian Open. The eighth seeded Delpo defeated Marin CILIC from Croatia convincingly 5-7, 6-4, 6-3 & 6-2.

In a match dominated by big hits and serves, it was a low unforced error count that helped DEL POTRO on the way to his first Melbourne Park quarterfinal appearance, and only his second in any Grand Slam since last year‘s US Open.

Now awaiting him in the last eight, is the winner between non other than former world No.1 Roger FEDERER and Tomas BERDYCH. As of now, the Tomas has defeated Fedex in the first set 6-4 and is down in the second 2-3.
Will we have an upset here?

MESSI Steers Barca’s Revenge

Lionel MESSI continues to stake his claim as the today’s World’s Best Player with another vintage performance against Numancia. Barcelona badly needed this type of result against the promoted side after suffering a shock lost at the opening day of the season.

Nevertheless it took a while for the party to start at the Camp Nou, as Lionel missed several chances. The deadlock was finally broken in the 50th minute, Daniel ALVES brilliantly flicked the ball over his marker and headed across goal to where MESSI was waiting to glance a deft shot past Juan Pablo COLINAS.

Later on he became the provider, skipping past two challengers to set up Thiery HENRY to score Barca’s third goal of the night. Eventually, it was MESSI who ended the show. He waltzed past several defenders in the area and rolled the ball into the empty net after his original effort was parried against him by COLINAS.

In Portugal, FC Porto regain their lead at the top of the league with a 2-0 win over Braga. Lisandro LOPEZ took advantage of a slip by Braga defender to shoot past the goalkeeper to score Porto‘s second goal of the match.

Luciano GALLETTI came off the bench to score the winner as defending champion Olympiakos beat visiting OFI Crete 2-1 to extend its lead in the Greek Super League.

U-20 : Young Argentina Scrapped Past Peru

Finally a win for Young Albiceleste but overall it wasn’t a truly a confidence performance Sergio BATISTA side. Peru took the lead as early in the 3rd minute through Luis TRUJILO from a superb free kick. Argentina did manage to find the equalizer before half time in the 25th minute courtesy of Jonathan CRISTALDO. Eduardo SALVIO got the winner in the 76th minute.

NBA News - Big Contribution, Low Outcome

Both Andres NOCIONI and Luis SCOLA had big nights but neither of which could help their team from losing. While it wasn’t a typical performance Manu GINOBILI for his team.

NOCIONI and the Chicago Bulls were defeated by the Toronto Raptors 94-114, adding another sour note in what has been a rough week for the Bulls. Chapu had 15 points, 6 rebounds and 3 assists for his team coming from the bench.

“I think we lost control of the game. We gave it up, that’s it. We had the game right there, but we lost confidence,” Chapu said.

Despite scoring having a career high performance, it wasn’t meant to be a happy ending night for Luis SCOLA, as the Houston Rockets went down to the Indiana Pacers 102-107. Worse news for the Rockets was the right ankle injury on YAO Ming.

SCOLA, scored 25 points, 7 rebounds & 1 assists, said the injuries weren’t an excuse for failing to play better in the second half.

“Those are three of our main guys, probably our three main guys,” SCOLA said. “So it is tough, but that’s the way it is. Injuries are part of the game. Everybody has them.”

While San Antonio Spurs walk through the tightest rope for a win 94-91 win over the New Jersey Nets. Manu GINOBILI was disappointing by his own standard posting just 8 points, 3 rebounds, 4 assists & 2 block shot. Fabricio OBERTO only had 2 rebounds.

The Detroit Pistons were hammered by the Dallas Mavericks, 91-112 with Walter HERRMANN having no points and just one rebound.

Del Potro Continues Win Streak

A birthday gift for me from Juan Martin DEL POTRO!

Delpo continues to fly the Argentina’s flag as he overcame an early setback against Luxembourg's Gilles MULLER yesterday to set up fourth-round clash with rising Croatian star Marin CILIC.
He dropped the first set against Muller after a tie-breaker on Hisense Arena before eventually closing out the match 6-7 (5-7), 7-5, 6-3, 7-5. Not even the hard-hitting MULLER's 22 aces were enough to tame DEL POTRO.

"I'm playing good, but I need to play better if I want to beat [Rafael] NADAL, [Roger] FEDERER, [Andy] MURRAY or [Novak] DJOKOVIC," he said. "I'm not going to beat them if I'm still missing break points or missing volleys."

Mundo Albiceleste celebrates John's birthday!

Time for a social post, everyone.

I would like to let you all know that we celebrate John's birthday today, 23 January.

As some of you may know, John was one of the first readers of Mundo Albiceleste (back when it was called Vamos Argentina) and he was following everyone of my posts from Malaysia.

He contacted me because he wanted to write about his true passion and he showed great knowledge, great ideas and a knack for finding out about even the smallest of events involving an Argentine athlete (as well as the latest videos of goals, smashes, putts, tries or three-pointers with Albicelestes in action anywhere in the world).

We became really good friends through the blog and I want to be the first one to say "Feliz Cumpleaños, John!"

I know at least one of the three wishes you'll ask for when it's time to blow the candles. I'm sure it's the same wish we all have (but we won't say it because if we do, it won't become a reality).

Have a good one, mate!

Update on the interview with Juan Pablo SORÍN

First of all, on behalf of John too, I want to thank you for all the questions you've been sending in.

Apart from numerous (unfortunately we had to cut some out), they were quality!

I want to inform you that all the questions have been sent to Juan Pablo SORÍN and I'll publish them the minute I receive them.

Please have in mind that at the moment of my writing (Wednesday night in Argentina), Juampi is in Uruguay where his team, Cruzeiro, just defeated Nacional of Montevideo 4-1 to win the Copa Bimbo friendly cup.

SORÍN, recovering from injury, made the trip with the squad but didn't participate in none of Cruzeiro's two matches (Saturday v. Atletico Mineiro -4-2 win-).

In other (less important news), you may notice I'm no longer signing as "Seba". I'm "Sebastian" now. Don't get confused, it's the same me, sort of speak! ha!

It's just an update of my Gmail or Google or Blogger account/s. From now on, I'll post and comment under this new signature: "Sebastian".

Tennis, Australian Open – Nalbandian Out! Delpo Through

Arguably the biggest shock in Day 3, 10th seeded David NALBANDIAN was knocked out by the unheralded LU Yen-Hsun. After going down in the first set 4-6, David rallied back to win the following two 7-5, 6-4.

However the Chinese Taipei player did it again to win the fourth set, 6-4. In the decider, David was very much in trouble as he was soon on double break down and Lu stepped up to serve it out at 5-2. He had no less than six chances to keep the match alive but it was Lu who clinched the game and the contest on his second match point.

Juan Martin DEL POTRO saved the day for the Albiceleste when cruised past his opponent Florian MEYER from Germany. The 8th seeded Delpo did not see much trouble as he won in straight set, 6-1, 7-5 & 6-1.
DEL POTRO started the game in blistering form, breaking his opponent three times. MAYER picked up the pace in the second, eventually breaking his serve to gain 5-4 lead. In the final set, DEL POTRO had to scramble to make a drop shot from MAYER, who then hit a lob which he managed to get to and then blast a passing winner.

His opponent in the third round will be the winner between local boy Bernard TOMIC or Gilles MULLER from Luxemburg.

In an earlier game, Brian DABUL went out in straight sets against Tomas BERDYCH, 1-6, 1-6 & 3-6. The other player still left in the second round is Guillermo CANAS, who takes on Fernando GONZALEZ.

NBA News – Old Manu Re-Emerges Against Pacers

If there was one thing that the superstars from San Antonio Spurs against the Indiana Pacers could have wished for, was to get some welcomed rest. More so, especially after some gruesome games during the last week. And they got it.

“We’re not used to games like this,” Manu GINOBILI said. “I don’t know how many times it’s happened this year. But we are very glad that we did have one.”

Manu barely played in the fourth quarter, but for most part when he was in action, he was beginning to show just exactly why the NBA selected him as the Best Sixth Man of 2008. He was a phenomenon from the bench, posting 26 points, 8 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 steals & a block shot.

“He’s starting to look like the old Manu,” Spurs coach Gregg POPOVICH said.

With the Spurs already in the driving seat, Coach Pops has decided to dig deep on his bench to give his players some well deserved minutes. Fabricio OBERTO had 5 rebounds & 1 steal to his credit.

Chicago Bulls were once again on the wrong side of the scoreboard, after losing 102-105 to the Atlanta Hawks. As always when they close, they seem to fall as the last hurdle.

Andres NOCIONI, in all his power did try to fire them from the bench, posting 15 points, 8 rebounds, 2 steals & a block shot.

Watch Tevez Against Derby

Carlos TEVEZ is on the verge to add another title to his glittering (or turbulent as some might say) career in United. His scored the Red Devils third goal in the Carling Cup semi-final against Derby County. United won the match 4-2 (4-3 on aggregate).

Fergie, Eat Your Heart Out!!! Carlitos Rules Again!!!

SORIN interview: last chance to send your questions

We're getting some questions from our readers and I'm about to send them to Juan Pablo SORIN for this experience we're conducting at Mundo Albiceleste to contact a player who was our captain during the last World Cup, after we failed to reach Mario KEMPES in the past (we will be trying to get El Matador in the future and we have kept all the questions you've sent us).

Right now, it's all about Juampi and we'll be sending him our questions later on Tuesday (that is: TODAY).

So...this is the last chance for you to send your questions to:

argentina.correspondent@gmail.com

Gracias!

Tennis, Australian Open - Willy Survives Scare

Unlike in Day 1, for the rest of the Albiceleste Army in Day 2 of the Australian Open could have almost turned to be a disaster. That was until Guillermo CANAS gave us something to cheer about.

CANAS took on Dieter KINDLMANN was made to scare as he won the match in five sets. Willy snuck past the German, 3-6, 7-5, 5-7, 6-0 & 7-5. He was the only Albiceleste to made progress to the next round in Day 2.
Playing against Jo-Wilfred TSONGA prove to be much for Juan MONACO as he went down 4-6, 4-6 & 0-6. Here are the rest of the results from Day 2: -

Eduardo SCHWANK lost to Tommy HAAS (GER) - 3-6, 3-6 & 4-6
Martin Vassollo ARGUELLO lost to Gael MOFLIS (FRA) - 1-6, 3-6 & 7-5
Diego JUNQUEIRA lost to Richard GASQUET (FRA) - 7-6, 6-7, 3-6 & 4-6

In the second round, Juan Martin DEL POTRO will take on Germany's qualifier Florian MAYER while David NALBANDIAN will face LU Yen -Hsun from Chinese Taipei.

For both Guillermo CANAS and Brian DABUL, they will have tough proposition as they take on 13th seeded Fernando GONZALEZ and 20th seeded Tomas BERDYCH.

NBA News - Scola the Star of the Albiceleste

The Houston Rockets defeated the Denver Nuggets 115-113 to win their fifth game in the last six. Luis SCOLA posted 16 points, 8 rebounds & 1 assist to his credit.

By his own standard it wasn't good for Manu GINOBILI in the San Antonio Spurs 86-84 win over the Charlotte Bobcats. Manu only manages 10 points, 2 rebounds & 1 assist. While Fabricio OBERTO had 2 points plus a block and a rebound.

Andres NOCIONI only had 2 points, 3 rebounds & 1 assist in Chicago Bulls 98-102 lost to the New York Knicks.

Is Lisandro LOPEZ the answer up front?

You all know I wish Diego MILITO wasn't as underrated as he actually is and was finally given the chance to play more minutes as our first choice striker.

You also know I'm a big fan of Lisandro LOPEZ (both players being a product of Racing Club's youth system). Well...apparently I'm not alone in Licha's bandwagon!

Diego Armando MARADONA has said in Radio La Red that he will give Lisandro LOPEZ more minutes so he can show with the Albiceleste what he did for Racing (when he topped the goalscoring ranks) and what he does week-in, week-out with Porto.

MARADONA also said that CRESPO may very well make a comeback once he finds some first-team action (and it's worthy to notice that Tottenham Hotspur were reportedly trying to sign him). Diego also said that Martín PALERMO stands every chance of claiming that spot once he comes back from injury.

For the time being and ahead of the friendly in Marseille against France, IT'S LICHA TIME!

U-20: Argentina held to a 1-1 draw by Venezuela

The debut match is never easy. The U20 National team of Argentina found out early on 2 minutes when José RONDON scored the opening goal for Venezuela after Unión de Santa Fé goalkeeper, Luis OJEDA, stopped his penalty shot.

BATISTA's team were trailing the home side right from the get go and the anxiety was evident after that.

Eduardo SALVIO (Lanús) showed what he is capable of doing a couple of times until he finally found the back of the net with a fierce low shot from the right and to the far post.

The second half was a monologue by the Albicelestes, but they couldn't find the all important second goal and had to settle for a draw.

Argentina will now have a day off on Wednesday while Colombia, Ecuador, Venezuela and Perú will all be in action for Group A second match day.

Flying Start For Delpo & Nalby

A good start to the Albiceleste Army in Australia. Apart from Agustin CALLERI, all the rest made progress to the next round.

As expected our two main hopes, Juan Martin DEL POTRO and David NALBANDIAN did not disappoint at all, though David did drop a set in his match. He overcome Marc GICQUEL, 6-1, 4-6, 6-2 & 6-3.

DEL POTRO was in full swing against Mischa ZVEREV, winning in straight sets 6-3, 6-4 & 6-2. Brian DABUL too won in straight sets 6-1, 6-2 & 6-4.

The only setback of the day as mentioned earlier was CALLERI. He lost to Spaniard Guillermo GARCIA-LOPEZ, 6-3, 6-7, 2-6 & 0-6.

Football News

Real Madrid overcame 10 men Osasuna 3-1 with Gonzalo HIGUAIN scoring their second goal. He scored after a touch and go game with in form winger Arjen ROBBEN.

In Italy, a goal from Ezequiel LAVEZZI wasn’t enough to save Napoli as they went down 2-1 to Chievo Verona.

While Cristian LADESMA scored for Lazio to put them in the lead against Juventus but the match ended in a 1-1 draw.

AS Monaco drew 2-2 with Caen in France, with Alejandro ALONSO scoring for the Principality side in the 24th minute.

Finally in Greece, Mathias IGLESIAS was the saviour for Larissa scoring the equalizer three minutes from time against FC Xanthi.

Young Albicelestes ready to debut in U-20 tourney

Last time we saw Sergio BATISTA sitting on the bench to manage an Argentine side, Angel DI MARIA chipped the Nigerian keeper to give the Albicelestes their second successive Olympic Gold medal.

Tomorrow it'll be a different story, but Checho will be looking for similar results when the U20 national team start their campaign at the South American tournament to be played in Venezuela.

Argentina's first opponent will be the home team and the match will be played very late on Monday (11 PM Buenos Aires - 8 PM New York - Tuesday 1 AM London).

Now BATISTA has had some problems with a few players that were denied to him by their clubs. The cases of Franco DI SANTO (Chelsea) and Pablo PIATTI (Almería) are the most notable and surely their talent will be missed, but so will the creative midfielder Javier PASTORE of Huracán in Argentina. He became one of last Torneo Apertura's best young players and put an absolute show in their last match against Vélez Sarsfield (3-0 win for Huracán with one goal and one assist by PASTORE).

BATISTA was clearly furious about this matter and he made himself clear when he said: "I'm really upset for not being able to count on this players. We need to do something because these days there are Argentine players leaving for Europe at a very young age and that's a problem".

On contrast, the superb Emiliano INSUA (Liverpool) will captain a promising squad that will be looking to win the title, but most importantly, qualify for the FIFA U-20 World Cup, to be played in Egypt between 22 September and 16 October, 2009.

Apart from INSUA, there are high hopes on Franco ZUCULINI (Racing Club), one midfielder in the mould of Javier MASCHERANO that has already been attracting the likes of Juventus and Udinese but he is a doubt for the debut match due to muscular fatigue.

Players like the mercurial Eduardo SALVIO (Lanús) and Jonathan CRISTALDO (Vélez Sársfield) should keep the opposing defenses busy.

Australian Open - Aussies & Albiceleste

I’ve been keeping in touch with some of my extended family members from Down Under. It seems to them, there are two big things they will be looking forward to in the next 48 hours. In terms of sports, to be exact.

Firstly, the entire country is geared up for the NFC Championship Final between the Arizona Cardinals and the Philadelphia Eagles. You might be thinking, what on earth are the Aussie so keen on the American version of football?

Well that’s because history is beckoning for them to see either Sav ROCCA (Eagles) or Ben Graham (Cardinals) to become the first Aussie to punt in the Super Bowl. Good luck to both of them.

Then there is of course the first Grand Slam of the year, the Australian Open. We at Mundo are more eager to follow this event, especially after those warm up wins from David NALBANDIAN and Juan Martin DEL POTRO over the weekend.

For David, he will face Frenchmen Marc GICQUEL while DEL POTRO will play against Mischa ZVEREV from Germany in their first round match up respectively. Another high profile encounter will see Juan MONACO taking on last year’s runner up, Jo-Wilfred TSONGA from France.

Here are the rest of the first round match ups involving the Albiceleste: -

Eduardo SCHWANK vs. Tommy HAAS (GER)
Diego JUNQUEIRA vs. Richard GASQUET (FRA)
Guillermo CANAS vs. Dieter KINDLMANN (GER)
Martin Vassallo ARGUELLO vs. Gael MONFLIS (FRA)
Brian DABUL vs. Brydan KLEIN (AUS)
Agustin CALLERI vs. Guillermo GARCIA-LOPEZ (ESP)

Good luck to our Racquet Kings!!! Could this be the year we finally win a Grand Slam since 2004?

An Interview With Juampi Sorin!!!

Hey guys! I have a special announcement to make and I believe that this might excites you all. Remember our planned to have an interview with the legendary Mario KEMPES.

Well that seems like a long time ago. And Seba and myself do apologize to everyone because of that interview never materialized. However as there is saying, that when one doors close, another opens!!!

And believe me we do have something in store for you. Through some of Seba’s personal contact he has manage to arrange a meeting with non other than our 2006 World Cup captain, Juan Pablo SORIN!!!
Seba is schedule to meet Juampi in Montevideo where he is currently on duty. I'm sure many of you would agree that SORIN is perhaps one of the greatest left back in the world, so here is your chance to say something to him.
So without wasting any time, Mundo would like to invite YOU to send in your question or comments to argentina.correspondent@gmail.com. Please don’t forget to give us your name, and the city or country where you live!

NBA News - Manu Overcome Chapu’s Bulls

It did look like a playground game between our two NBA superstar. Both were like exchanging shots from one after another. Especially towards the ending of the game. But in the end, Manu GINOBILI just had the final say over time life long friend, Andres NOCIONI, as San Antonio Spurs beat the Chicago Bulls 92-87.

Manu had a game high of 21 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists and 2 steals. He scored the final nine points of the game for the Spurs in the last 1:04. While NOCIONI had 17 points and a season-high 15 rebounds plus 2 assists and a steal for Chicago. Fabricio OBERTO only had 2 points after only playing for 4 minutes plus.

With San Antonio down 82-81 in the final 2 minutes, Tony Parker spun around Derrick ROSE for a lay-up. Then, on the defensive end Bruce BOWEN stole a pass from NOCIONI to set up Manu’s 3-pointer that gave the Spurs an 86-82 lead with 1:04 left.

“What happened in Philadelphia was embarrassing,” Manu said. “We held a talented team to 87. That’s who we are. That’s who we want to be.”

Manu made two free throws to put the Spurs up 88-82 with 36.8 left. The Bulls had some hope left when PARKER fouled NOCIONI on a 3-point attempt. Chapu made three free throws to get to 90-87 with 31 seconds left, but he then fouled Manu on a 3-point attempt, who made two of three free throws.

“I thought we played good enough to win,” Chapu said. “But that’s the way we have to play every night. The last four games we played together and with much more effort.”

In another game the Houston Rockets defeated the Miami Heat 93-86. Luis SCOLA has posted 9 points, 5 rebounds and 1 assist.

Another MESSI-ful Goal Fest from Barca

More great news on the Albiceleste from Spain, France and Greece.

Barcelona were look devastating dangerous again with 5-0 thumping of Deportivo La Coruna. But most importantly, it was another beautiful goal from our best player in the world, Lionel MESSI, Again it was the perfect combination between him and Dani ALVES. Like what my friend Jack said, does he ever score a bad goal? Well I supposed he only knows how to make a bad goal looks so beautiful. And a good goal look awesome!

In France, Lyon continued their dominance in Ligue 1 with a 2-0 away win over Grenoble. Cesar DELGADO scored the second goal, courtesy of a Kim KALLSTROM cross from the left from which he volleyed into the net.

In the Greek Super League, a double penalty from Lucio FILOMENO ensured that Asteras Tripoli defeats Thrasivoulos 3-0. While the Albiceleste combo of prove to be successful for AEK Athens as they won 1-0 way to Iraklis. Ismael BLANCO scoring the goal from a header after being assisted by Ignacio SCOCCO.

Tennis- Excellent Wins from Nalby and Del Potro

It looks like a promising preparation from both David NALBANDIAN and Juan Martin DEL POTRO with the first Grand Slam of the year, the Australian Open taking starting on Monday. Both won their warm tournament to win their first title of the year.

David NALBANDIAN defeated Finn Jarkko NIEMINEM 6-3, 6-7 & 6-2 in the final of the Sydney International final. He had to overcome a string of unforced errors and inconsistent error to win this game.

While in Auckland, New Zealand, DEL POTRO begins his journey in 2009 by winning the Heineken Open on Saturday. He defeated American Sam QUERREY in straight set 6-4 & 6-4, to win his fifth ATP tour title.

Tevez Proves Fergie Wrong

There has been plenty of rumours, speculations and gossips surrounding Carlos TEVEZ permanent deal to stay at Manchester United. Much of it has hit rock bottom when TEVEZ to a swipe at Sir Alex FERGUSON’s claim that he had rejected a new offer from the Red Devils.

To make matters worst, United had given up hope on signing TEVEZ instead they would rather pay £40 million for Karim BENZEMA (just £8 million less than Carlitos price tag). And just how much would Fergie regretted all that today? A lot in my opinion.

Today against Bolton, Wayne ROONEY was out after suffering an injury from the match against Wigan. TEVEZ was given the chance to start the game.

Bolton as always, were never an easy to team to beat at home. Their stubborn defense created plenty of frustration for United as a win would put them on top of the table. TEVEZ had a couple chances which was blocked and a header saved by Jussi JAASKELAINEN.

Just as when the match was heading for a goalless draw, the miracle of Carlitos happens? TEVEZ broke free against two Bolton players and provided a wonderful cross for Dimitar BERBATOV to head home. United won the match 1-0. One way or the other, TEVEZ continues to prove Fergie wrong.

And remember Fergie! It wasn’t your £30.75million Bulgarian, but your still unsigned Argentinean that took you to the top of the Premiership.

But the good news was also felt from the other side Manchester. And I’m not referring to any sort of confirmation that KAKA has agreed to join Manchester City. Pablo ZABALETA became the hero for the 10 men City Blues, scoring the winning goal in their 1-0 victory over Wigan. He showed good skill to rattle home a shot from 20 yards.

NBA News - Manu Steer Spurs Over Kobe’s Lakers, Diego Inspires Inter

Remember that painful defeat in last year’s Western Conference. That foul that was not call in Game 4. Since then it look like Kobe BRYANT has always got the better of Manu GINOBILI (semi-final at the Olympics).

But not this time! Manu was major force coming from the bench as he posted a team high 27 points, 3 rebounds, 2 assists & 3 steals. Fabricio OBERTO did not featured for the game. Check out this block by Manu on the reigning MVP

Another good news came from Toronto, as the Chicago Bulls notch a rare away 102-98 win against the Raptors. Andres NOCIONI was alive in this game posting 16 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists & 1 block shot.

Football - Cup Game Highlights

With Diego watching from the stands, it was a real chance for the Albiceleste Army at Inter to impress him for a place in next month’s friendly against France. Esteban CAMBIASSO could do no wrong as he scored against Genoa with Nicolas BURDISSO, Walter SAMUEL, Javier ZANETTI and Hernan CRESPO were all in the starting line up. Sadly Diego MILITO was injured for the game.

I may not be a big Inter supporters though they have a soft spot for me in Italian football. I guess Diego’s presence there could do no wrong for Jose and his boys.

In Spain, youngster Pablo PIATTI gave Almeria some hope of a comeback against Real Mallorca in the 3rd minute but the match ended in a 1-1 draw. Mallorca will progress with 4-2 aggregate win. I’m sure we will hear more about him during the 'Juventudes de América' in Venezuela.

The MESSI-ah to the Rescue

The Atomic Flea does it again! Just as when you thought that hope is lost, the wonder boy delivers. With 10 minutes left to play, Barcelona was already2-1 down against Osasuna.

Barca already looks self shocked, as the home side was on a verge of celebration but it did not took that all that turned into frustration. First the equalizer from XAVI, a low sliding shot goal which was set up by Dani ALVEZ in the 80th minute.

Then in the 85th minute, the magical moment arrives. Lionel MESSI lashed a powerful left-footed drive past a despairing Osasuna keeper and into his right-hand corner from outside the area. The results means that Barca will move 12 points clear of bitter rival at the top of the table.

If Lionel was the saviour Barca today, the other half Catalunya had Nicolas PAREJA to be thankful. In their match against Almeria, PAREJA’s stunning 95th minute free-kick saved Espanyol's blushes in a game that they could ill afford to lose. The match ended in a 2-2 draw.

In Serie A, Lecce came away with a 2-1 win over at Fiorentina with Jose Ignacio CASTILLO scoring the winner.

While in France, Fernando CAVENAGHI scored in Bordeaux impressive 4-0 win over Paris St. Germain.

Last but not least, way to go to the Baltimore Ravens and Philadelphia Eagles in their stunning upsets in the NFL playoffs.

Mestalla Delight, Double-D for Scola

Villarreal came from behind twice to snatch a point against local rivals Valencia in a pulsating draw at the Mestalla tonight. Going 2-0 just after ten minutes, Fabricio FUENTES scored just before the interval to revive some hopes for the visiting team. The match ended in a 3-3 draw.

In Greece, Sergio PONCE scored to give Panthrakikos the lead in the 5 minutes, before going down 1-3 to Panathinaikos.

Still in Greece, Luciano GALLETTI was on target for Olympiakos in their 2-1 win over FC Xanthi.

NBA - Gracias Scola, Injured Rockets Still Hot

Despite playing without their big names (Tracy McGRADY and Ron ARTEST) because of injury, the Houston Rockets were still almost unmatched by the New York Knicks. With four starters and one bench player in double digit, the Rockets hammered the Knicks 96-76.

Among them was Luis SCOLA notching up another double-double performance. SCOLA was hot on the offense, posting a game high 18 points. He was equally hot on the defense with 11 rebounds. The Rockets could still prove to be a championship contender team even when they are under manned.

Times are very critical for the Chicago Bulls and they need to know that now even they wish to be involved in the post season. The Bulls went down to the Oklahoma City Thunders 109-98, with Andres NOCIONI posting 11 points, 2 rebounds & a steal.

Rumour, News & Many More

Little Witch Going Back To Rome?

There has plenty of news surrounding the blue of half of Rome during these last few days. Juan Sebastian VERON is pushing for a move back to his old hunting ground.

La Brujita spent some of the best years of his career playing for Lazio, winning a number of major honours including the Scudetto in 2000. Reports in the Italian press have linked the player with a return, and it could happen as VERON issued a come-and-get-me plea to Lazio president Claudio LOTITO.

VERON is not the only one that could be heading there. Roberto AYALA could also be making a return to Italy after spending eight years in Spain. His agent, Claudio ANELUCCI, said the Real Zaragoza defender left a door open on the possibility of joining Lazio, as has been rumoured in the Italian media over the past few days.

Meanwhile according to Goal.com, there were plenty of reports on Diego BUONANOTTE receiving offers from a number of clubs, from Italy to as far as Qatar! Thank God he turned the latter offer down. Apparently Inter Milan has been rumored to be the Italian side that are keen to for his service.

Gremio of Brazil are hoping to sign Maxi LOPEZ, who currently plays for FC Moscow of Russia. According to reports, LOPEZ will be willing to make sacrifices, because his wife is pregnant, and the couple prefer to be closer to Argentina.

Angel DI MARIA could be leaving Benfica for England during the summer. Chelsea manager Luiz Felipe SCOLARI has identified him as a top transfer target once the current season concludes.

NBA News - Decent Night from the Tall Albiceleste

The Houston Rockets came away with a 98-96 win over the Oklahoma City Thunder with Luis SCOLA posting 14 points, 6 rebounds & 1 steal.

Chicago Bulls notched an important 98-86 win over their Eastern Conference rival the Washington Wizards. Andres NOCIONI posted 8 points, 1 rebound, 2 assists, 1 steal & 1 block shot.

Walter HERRMANN posted 4 points & 1 assist in the Detroit Pistons 93-90 win over the Denver Nuggets.

MESSI Says Hola 2009 with a Hat Trick

Lionel MESSI kick start his campaign for the new year in the most spectacular way, scoring a hat-trick against Atletico Madrid in the Copa del Rey. Barcelona will now take a 3-1 lead to the Nou Camp for the second leg.

Perhaps it was his way of thanking Barca (they have agreed to let him play against France in February) and telling Diego “don’t forget to bring me too!!!” or maybe he was making his case as the World’s best player.

His first, started with a beautiful one-two involving him and Daniel ALVEZ from which he coolly slid the ball past Gregory COUPET. His second came from the penalty spot after he was fouled by Johnny HEITINGA.

Atletico did manage to pull one back through Tomas UJFALUSI. But Lionel ensured that Atletico will not spoil his night as he dribbles past COUPET to secure his hat trick.

One thing is for sure, Atletico will not be thinking about the prospect of playing Barca in the Nou Camp. Remember what Lionel did to them last time?

NBA News - Manu Clutch Block On D-Wade

The San Antonio Spurs continued their usual dominance with a 91-84 win over the Miami Heat. Manu GINOBILI, whom started from the bench, was pretty much below par from his usual standard of his offensive.

He only manages 10 points and was 0-5 from the three point line. But it was his one and only block shot that caught most people’s attention. Manu sealed it with, well, a circus play with 1:33 remaining.

Miami trailed 84-81 when Dwayne WADE drove to the rim from the right wing, with Tony PARKER getting in front to deter his progress a bit. Wade leaped for a lay-up—but Manu, who isn’t exactly known for high-flying exploits—swatted it away, setting up a game-clinching jumper by Roger MASON at the other end.

“Play of the game,” Heat coach, Erik SPOELSTRA said.

“He’s an athletic guy and it was a great block,” WADE said.

He also had 5 rebounds, 3 assists and 3 steals as well.

Fabricio OBERTO (foot) sat out again, his ninth missed game out of San Antonio’s last 10.More than a few fans wore Argentina’s national football team’s jersey and even waved the flag, a nod to Manu. Not surprising at all.

Carlitos Unhappy with Fergie’s Comment

When would this saga come to an end? It’s already more than one year and a half. A few days ago there were reports suggesting that Carlos TEVEZ has rejected a new offer from Manchester United, according to his manager Sir Alex FERGUSON.

However like the warrior from Fort Apache, Carlitos is one person that will speak his mind when it matters, even he is risking the wrath of Fergie. He has revealed his disappointment at all those speculations and reiterated his desire for his future to be sorted.

“I didn't like him (FERGUSON) saying I didn't like the offer I was made because neither my agent nor me were given one,” whose deal runs out in the summer, told Radio del Plata.

“I don't know anything on my future. United know what they must pay if they want me to stay. I want to stay but the club has not made any offer. I've been waiting for them for a year and a half”.

With all this ongoing uncertainty surrounding his future at Old Trafford, TEVEZ has also became a target of several other clubs most notably Real Madrid. But he has also made it clear, that whatever happens, he wants it to be done in the right manner.

“If I have to quit the club, I want to quit on good terms. Now all clubs are on an equal footing. If a club comes to me and offers me a five-year deal, I will accept it for peace of mind. I will sign my last contract, and then I figure that I'll go back to Boca (Juniors.) That could be in four or five years. I want everybody to know no offer has been made. I don't like that they are playing with our fans, who show their love to me in each match.”

It’s strange to see despite all the success he has achieved in Europe since his arrival at West Ham in 2006, the big Q is just when will Carlitos be given a well deserve contract?

NBA News - GINOBILI Sparks Win Over Sixers

The Houston Rockets lost their second straight game after going down against the Atlanta Hawks 100-103 despite a double-double from both Luis SCOLA and YAO Ming. They had huge hole to dig with Tracy McGRADY and Ron ARTEST being inactive. SCOLA posted 16 points, 11 rebounds and 1 assist.

Meanwhile the Chicago Bulls lost to the Minnesota Timberwolves 92-103, their third successive loss. Andres NOCIONI posted 13 points, 3 rebounds, 3 assists and 1 block shot. Among the highlights from Chapu was hitting the back-to-back 3s to give Chicago a 73-72 lead early in the fourth quarter.

Coach Vinny DEL NEGRO played down the on court spat incident between Joakim NOAH and NOCIONI during the blow out loss to the Cavaliers saying “I like when guys get on each other and show some intensity and show some will to win and kind of get after it a little bit. I like that,”

Tony PARKER shot at the buzzer may have given the San Antonio Spurs 108-106 win over the Philadelphia 76ers but they needed a big steal from Manu GINOBILI. PARKER missed an 18-footer, but the Spurs got the ball back and set up the winning shot without using as timeout when Manu stole Andre MILLER’s pass with 15 seconds left.

Manu produced another powering performance from the bench to post 21 points, 3 rebounds, 2 assists, a game high 3 steals and 1 block shot. Fabricio OBERTO who had return from injury with a sore left foot was left on the bench and did not play.

Some Transfer Speculations

With the New Year that has just arrived , a couple of breaking news is taking place during the transfer window in January.

Despite losing to Valencia, Kun AGUERO was not left of the hook as apparently Barcelona president Joan LAPORTA wants to bring him to the Camp Nou, during the summer that is. He convened a brief meeting on the last day of 2008 with the intention to stun and impress his fellow board members, by confidently outlining his pet project for 2009.

Incase if you’re starting to look at the prospect on watching Kun and Lionel MESSI linking together in both a Barca and Argentina shirt. Think again, please. Juventus are keen to bring the Atomic Flea to Italy and to do that they are willing to sell Gianlugi BUFFON to allow the cash flow for MESSI.

MESSI is considered to be worth around €75 million by the Spanish side, but he has a €150m buy-out clause on his contract. However Juventus could get some helping hand from Manchester City’s mega rich Arab owners, whom are willing to offer €100 million for the goalkeeper.

Meanwhile Boca Juniors midfielder Sebastian BATTAGLIA could possible be joining Juan Pablo CARIZZO, Mauro ZARATE and Cristian LADESMA at Lazio. BATTAGLIA was in extraordinary form as Boca Juniors clinched the Argentine Apertura Championship, after a decisive three-way playoff with San Lorenzo and Tigre.

The former Villarreal player has become hot property in recent months, and it was reported that he is being observed by none other than European champions Manchester United. Italian giants AC Milan are also in the race to secure his signature.

NBA News - Manu, the Only Bright Spot

The Houston Rockets didn’t look like they have turned up for the game against the Toronto Raptors. Luis SCOLA had a game high if 13 rebounds but only manage 8 points and 2 assist. The Raptors won the game 94-73.

Losing a game can be bad but an unwanted a situation in times like this is another matter all together. The Chicago Bulls were defeated by the Cleveland Caveliers 92-117 but much part of it was robbed during a heated timeout in the third quarter, Joakim NOAH and Andres NOCIONI exchanged words on the bench.

“When you’re losing by 20 points, you’re frustrated,” NOAH said. “It’s the heat of the moment, things are said. But I don’t have any problems with Noce. Losing is frustrating.” NOCIONI came from the bench to post 11 points and 2 rebounds.

Walter HERRMANN only had two rebounds and no points in the Detroit Pistons 98-92 win over the Sacramento Kings.

The only bright spot of the night came from the San Antonio Spurs against Memphis Grizzlies game. Not one of his best, but still a strong contribution from Manu GINOBILI and the return of Fabricio OBERTO.

Manu posted 13 points, 6 rebounds, 6 assists and a game high 5 steals as the Spurs won the game 91-80. OBERTO was back in action from injury and played for about two minutes plus posting just one rebound. I’m sure we will see more of him as he regains back his form.
