messi has only himself to blame, after the FRANCE game when we won 2-0,after da match he was celebrating with da group off players and saying: we dont need RIQUELME I WILL BE the new 10 of arg, therefore THE REAL 10 QUITED the national team.
without roman not only MESSI BUT WHOLE argentina is rubish,we noticed that since he guit all are games has been embarassing, untill he comes back we will be a joke.

(take my word people.)

Most people couldnt care less about his performances with Barcelona, You're the best if you perform with the NT. The rest doesnt matter.

This is all maradona's fault, even I could win WC with the players Argentina have. How on earth he is stiil the manager is beyond me. The thing is you guyz don't have the balls to criticize him. You are just making Messi the scapegoat who is probably the best Argentine talent ever. Criticizing Messi only makes Argentines look absolutely pathetic.

To anonymous, Messi never ever said something like that. Who will select coloccini, otamendi, schiavi, dominguez, pareja, alvarez etc when we have defenders like Samuel, Zanetti, Garay and now a fit Gabriel Milito? Yes it would be maradona...Who will pick gago instead of Banega or Cambiasso? Yes maradona? Who will snub Diego Milito and Lisandro for palermo? Yes it's him. And the biggest loss of all is Riquelme. It is very disappointing to see Argentina getting destroyed like that. Doesn't anybody have balls to fire him? If it was possible, I would be willing to go on hunger strike in order to get maradona sacked. Vamos albicelestes, vamos MESSI and down you go maradona...

msi2,i absiloutly agree wid your comments.but at least he won balon de oro and fifa world player awarad,i think argentine public should appreciate that because hes da first ARG to do that, but as far as national senior team concern he did nothing so far,but he is not da only one who suffered under maradona, name me one player who shined under maradroga?

why dont the ARG public give da hard times to maradroga in same ways they do to messi(its not fare to only blame messi is da whole team).

since 2005,pekerman and basile build a good team, there was a game plan, fotballing philossofy, way of playing, yea it wasnt da best team in da world but at least we saw some great football, remember 2006 what a gr8 football they played, same in copa america07and olympic team 08(thats da ARG i know and because of da football they play i love their football teams),but maradona he destoyed this teams, the players dont have a clue what he wants from them,he doesnt know what hes doing,he changed 82 players since he took over that syas it all to me.

You're an idiot to put all of these blame on Messi. I don't say Argentina don't need Riquelme, I like him alot, but with all the talented players we have, we still can make a great team without him, even without Messi.

Hell yeah I want Riquelme in the team but who's decision is it to make??

Pulga said...

Pardon my bad english. I'm tired of Maradona. At least call the right and deserved players.

Just wondering why does EVERYBODY have to BITCH at EVERY SINGLE loss. It is a BROKEN RECORD. Some of you bitching will get you nowhere, letting off steam is it? Let it go, and be a BIT more creative after a loss. It is the same thing over and over and over and over again! What makes you believe the team will change anytime soon? So stop bitching and deal with it!

To those saying that argies are insane because of Del Potro winning over Messi: Del Potro achieved very important things lately. Football players lost the spot on prizes here a long time ago, since they don't play on our league and have regular to bad performances on the NT. You have to remember that almost nobody here cares about European football, and that whatever players achieve there, it's not that relevant, just as our league is not important for European fans. Messi is an exception, but that's not his problem; his (and the rest's) is Maradona, that's clear. Enrique, Brown, Batista, Maradona, nobody likes them here, and while Messi is a common target for criticism, the coaching staff worries everybody more than him.

The last years have been very satisfactory for Argentine sports, with Ginobili for example, and they are given the deserved recognition. Now is Del Potro's turn (he and Nadal are the only players that beat Federer on a Grand Slam final... is that nothing?). Messi will be given recognition if a miracle happens, but I wouldn't expect nothing good for the next... two years maybe. Also, next year we have the Basketball and Hockey World Cups, and some player from those tournaments will probably excel and win next year's Olimpia de Oro.

Messi needs to be congratulated and not put down for his achievements over the last year. He was the catalyst in Barcelona's dominance of the past year. There is no one more deserving of this award. He scored around 38 goals for Barcelona and created numerous assists. However despite all of this Barcelona is not a one man team. There were other players whose contribution was just as valuable like Xavi, Iniesta, Puyol, Etoo, Alves and Henry. It is quite clear that the supporting cast at Barcelona complement Messi as they rise to the occassion at play at his level.

Contrast this with Argentina where Messi's level is dragged down by mediocre players and an incomptent coach. Messi is played out of position, is easily shackled and is supported by players who cannot ease his burden by stepping up and taking responsibility. If these underachievers were the best around then it would be understandable, but they are not. They have been selected due to the subjective reasoning of the coaching set up. If these players were any good then they would be plying their trade in a major European league. The truth is that the best players ply their trade in Europe. Those who do not play in Europe are either starting out, past their sell by date or are not up to scratch. Unfortunately the National team is full of these type of players.

I do not understand the persistence of sticking to a failed approach. Argentina were fortunate to qualify after a stuttering camapign and have a good WC draw. All is not lost and Messi can join the immortals if the right players and tactics are followed. Argentina has players that can step up if Messi is contained if they are selected. If the selection is based on personal rather than professional or objective reasoning what incentive do players have to perform. It does not matter how well players perform as there will always be room for Oltamendi, Papa, Palermo, Veron and Gago irrespective of their form.

Most of the teams that have won the World Cup have solid defences and benches. Argentina have both if objectivity is the key factor. Argentina have excellent defenders like Samuel, Garay and Gonzalo who have physical prescence and tactical nous. How does one explain their continued exclusion for obscure players who cannot deliver at the highest level. When Italy won the WC their bench was star studded players like Gilardino and Del Pierro could come on and change a game in a flash. If Argentina are in a jam and the bench comprises of those whose selection is based on personal rather than footballing reasons then what hope is there? It will be hard to blame players who have been selected for sentimental reasons if they do not perform. What does anyone expect they will not deliver because they cannot and have never. They will be found wanting again.

There is nothing wrong with adopting different ideas from other successful teams. England now have tactical discipline allied to their strengths, Brasil play more like Argentina than Argentina do. They are flexible and win by whatever means is necessary whether it is set pieces, counter attack, or individual brillance but they can change styles. Maradona insists on a 4,4, 2 formation and acts as if it is still 1986.

Until Messi takes Argentina to the final of a WC he will not be classed as a true great but to do this he needs a good supporting cast and not the deadwwod and passengers that are in the current team.

I guess its pretty hard for any footballer to win the Olimpia de Oro as I’m sure the expectation it very high. So unless MESSI wins the World Cup for Argentina, then don’t expect him to win the award. Remember the last footballer to win this was Carlos TEVEZ in 2004, for which his achievement winning gold in Athens 2004.

Having said that, I will not take anything away from Juan Martin DEL POTRO and he did achieve big in 2009 and truly deserve his fair share recognition. He did win a Grand Slam (the US Open, beating Roger FEDERER) which is as big as winning the World Cup in football. There is nothing to upset about and I’m sure good old MESSI must be happy for him as well.

M13, football is NOT the only sport played here, so caring about football all the time is not fine. If you give the award to Messi, everybody would say "oh sure, a football player, what were you expecting?", and if you don't, "oh sure, so Messi doesn't matter?". I'm very happy Messi is not given this award, and I love Messi and I oppose those that criticize him just for the sake of it, but other sportsmen and sportswomen are doing things for Argentine sports little to nobody did before. Messi is not our first great football player, so let's not go much far into this pointless "recognition" issue.

Sadly, most people praises Del Potro's win just for their hartred for Messi, but those who voted didn't think that way; they made their choice considering the achievement, and gave Del Potro what he deserved.

Now, if we're talking about different awards, then I'm deeply sorry.

We are still finding our style and a decent defense line but there's still six months to go.
At least our front line was okay except for the finishing. And our midfield looks promising to me, with benega, veron, aimar and pastore. Imo, veron was solid in wcc. We just have to find the right midfield partnership and hope that, damn, they will call up a decent defense line.

ps. The players have the bad postioning and inability to make passes, so it constantly seems as if playing counterattack will be better off.

I personally think the offensive problems got solved in our last friendly and i will hold judgement on this team till after the next 2 friendlies! lets just hope the defensive problems get fixed as well

and as far as the NT goes i do have a strong feeling that you will all be surprised in June :>

Check out Veron's brief analysis of the NT on Goal.com today. One thing I will definitely give Veron, he has pulled no punches when asked his opinion about what's going on with the NT.

In addition, more soap opera garbage with the NT this week, with Bilardo and Mancuso having a public spat and Diego on Mancuso's side. It is clear to me that the supposed good working relationship between Maradona and Bilardo is a figment of someone's deluded imagination. I don't think they can stand one another.

Gave up on the political bs long time ago. Hopefully everything ends up lying in the right place when the time comes
I'm wondering what will happen if we model the team after estundiantes instead of ,what many people suggested, barcelona?
