MARADONA to start the "Three Little Birds" up front

We still don't know what the starting lineup will be for Saturday to face Colombia in Buenos Aires.

What the media are starting to speculating with is a formation with three at the back and, even though Diego is not Bob MARLEY, a repeat of the "Three Little Birds" up front with MESSI, AGÜERO and TEVEZ all taking to the field from the beginning.

Here's how the team would look, if what MARADONA tested in training on Tuesday is something to go by.

ANDUJAR on goal.

Daniel DIAZ, Martín DEMICHELIS and Gabriel HEINZE (yes...I know, Gabriel HEINZE).

The dynamic duo of Javier MASCHERANO and Fernando GAGO in the centre of midfield.

Juan Sebastián VERON and Jonás GUTIERREZ playing on the flanks, behind the aforementioned MESSI, TEVEZ and AGÜERO.

One of the things MARADONA wants to see is the link between VERON and MESSI, sort of what Lionel does with XAVI or INIESTA when he plays for Barcelona. We'll see how it goes.

As a first thought, I'm thinking MARADONA is right in fielding a very strong team for the first match of this double fixture. In my opinion, he will be wrong if he rested some of the main names for the trip to Quito.

We need to go after Colombia and get all three points on Saturday so we can then play with less pressure at Quito and depending on how the players finish the game against Colombia, maybe make changes or adjustments to travel to Ecuador.

i do not like this at all. three defenders is the worst idea. then playing veron on the flank is just amazingly stupid (sorry!!).
on the other end where is zanete?

quick teams with skillful players (imagine Brazil, Spain, England) will make fun of us!!

Hmmmm.........Veron on the Flanks!!!!!!!!!!!!Where did that come from????????

Not Sure I agree with that.....Also Heinze???????Rest of the team looks fine.........ALthough I would have preferred Licha in place of Aguero /Tevez............

And BTW Where is Maxi??????Why doesnt he start??????

Hi all,
I dont know why Mradona continues to call up Gabriel Heinze, the man has simply lost the plot at the Bernabeu this season , failed at the international level many times and scored an awful own goal against Paraguay. I think Gonzalo Rodriguez will be best replacement for Heinze.
Another puzzling call up is that of Juan Sebastian Veron. Although Veron has been in decent form for Estudiantes, his place in the national team makes no sense.
Thanks God that Diego has changed Juan Pablo Carizzo who was at fault for at least three of Bolivia's goals.
Lets hope good work from Messi and Tevez. One thing all must except that Argentina is still not finding replacement for Juan Riquelme.

Forget, england, brazil, spain, the most important thing is to qualify. Once we've qualified then worry about the rest.
We'll do fine.

I'm glad to see Diego experimenting with other keepers. I'm not a fan of Carrizo and my guess is that he will slowly, if not quickly, fade away from the NT. I share some of the concerns about Veron. He's just not quick enough anymore. The idea that Diego is looking for someone to hook up with Messi, a la Iniesta or Xavi, is a great idea, but I don't think Veron is the man for the job. As for Maxi, didn't he have a pretty subpar season for Atletico ?

I'm raring to see the match Saturday and hoping to see the Bolivia disaster way off in the rearview.

well that is the problem, maradona have a small number of matches before the world cup. so he should create an identity for the team and not play 3-5-2 in one match and then 4-4-2 in the next than back to god knows what!

if the NT does not have an identity then maybe you are right, we should not think of Spain and Brazil, but we better think of Bolivia, Paraguay, etc... because they are the ones who will beet us!!

Just heard that Diego Milito is being sold to Inter with midfielder Thiago Motta. Also looks like Crespo will be signing with Genoa. He has some big shoes to fill with the season Milito had!! Hopefully he'll get more time than he did at Inter. Talent like his should never be benched!!

Diego is clearly following the Barca model with Argentinian flair. But with Heinze at the back and Veron in the flanks, seriously guys what can we expect than a disaster in the long run. Yes we might easily win with Colombia, even with Ecquador cause we have players that can easily hit 4 in front in we are 3 behind but considering the coming World Cup, I am now really feeling, we are F*****. I hope best of luck for Diego but it seems like it will be more like a Newcastle story then a Guradiola story. I hate this.

Maradona and his idiotic choice of Heinze!! Maradona has no clue what he is doing! The guy thinks with his heart far to much! Kick Heinze out of the team, the guy is a liability! This little 3 players up front will work vs South Americans but they will get punished. We are wasting this wonderful team by a idiot who does not know what he is doing in Maradona! I will be happy coming away with 4 points from these next two games.

I doubt Veron will be on the flanks, he will have probably a freer role in the midfield as a playmaker.
Maradona shoud have called one more DM because i think all our DM are already yellow-carded.

Finally, i'm really not a fan of the chiquitos. Too many of the same to me.

I agree HEINZE should not be anywhere near or NT, but the fact we need to look at is that this is a player that has not only been called by MARADONA.

If we take a look back, since BIELSA introduced him, he's been ever-present. He was used by PEKERMAN and also BASILE. This is not something we should only blame on MARADONA. He must have something positive. Something we don't necessarily see on the field. Anyway...

Regarding VERON's position, yes, I agree he will have a free role. So will MESSI. I placed him on the right flank as a part of a 3-4-3 system, but as Anonymous said, I doubt he'll stay parked on that flank. He'll roam around the entire pitch (as he always does).

Just to let you know. I have posted a video and an article about Argentina and their debut at the Toulon Youth Festival. It said it'll show up briefly on our blog but it's been some 20 minutes and a few days ago it took like 72 hours for a video to show up. Apologies, but unfortunately I didn't copy the text. I'll wait a few more minutes and I'll at least post the video if the original post don't show up.

I like to see more of Angel di Maria now that Riquelme is no longer part of the equation.

Apart from Heinze, is there no other left backs in the whole of Argentina? When will Gabriel Milito recover?

Heinze is not a LB but a CB more akin to play on the left.

Yea This line up's pretty weak but all I'm thinking about are the 3 points, I don't care how we win it or by how much, all that matters is to win this match as all other matches are extremely difficult. I'm quiet relieved that Carizzo is not first choise anymore, Defence is our weakest link, Demichelis is NOT world class, Heinze is a time misticking bomb, and Diaz is just not national team quality... Midfield is very poor, Mascherano should be partnered by Cambiasso rather than an out of form Gago, Veron's inclusion could give us something that we've been lacking in recent matches, Barcelona's style of possession and the fact that he was part of the 2002 world cup qualifying team makes sense, Jonas still has to prove himself to me although many have been impressed, and as for the 3 little guys up front, I don't mind it at all, as all our strikers are World class although i would have loved to see Higuain selected.
Anyways all I care about is the win and moving away from that 5th position!

Maradona was a great player but he knows nothing about managing a team, why would he keep Heinze on the team? Heinze is crap and why 3 midgets up front when you have Hougain who had a spectacular season in real Madrid, Maradona chooses his friends for the team and its going to cost us!!!
