It's official: TEVEZ leaves Manchester United

When Carlos TEVEZ got in the box and scored a dramatic goal against Manchester United to keep West Ham in the Premier League, little did we know that it was the last time he would play at Old Trafford for the visiting team.

TEVEZ secured a move to the Red Devils and since then, he won two Premier League titles and reached consecutive Champions League finals (winning the first one and losing to Barcelona last month).

When he left the field to a standing ovation with 66 minutes gone in Manchester United's title-clinching 0-0 draw at home with Arsenal, we knew there was every chance for that moment to become the last time he was to play at Old Trafford, but for the home team.

That feeling we had back then, was confirmed on Saturday as Manchester United announced on their website that Carlos TEVEZ will leave the club after they failed to sign him permanently.

Here's the club's statement:

Following contact received from Carlos Tevez’s advisors last night, in advance of the deadline the Club set for concluding negotiations, Manchester United announces that Carlos will not be signing a new contract with the Club.

The Club agreed to pay the option price of £25.5m and offered Carlos a five-year contract which would have made him one of its highest paid players.

Disappointingly however, his advisors informed the Club that, despite the success he has enjoyed during one of the Club’s most successful periods, he does not wish to continue playing for Manchester United.

The Club would like to thank Carlos for his services over the last two seasons and wishes him good luck for the future.

This puts an end to one part of the soap opera surrounding his future, but at the same time it kicks-off a new chapter: Where will Carlitos play next season?

Manchester City continue to be favourites to sign him, but also Liverpool and Chelsea have shown interest in the player.

Is this contract rejection from TEVEZ a good move from him?

TEVEZ is clearly after more playing minutes or after a more important role in the team he plays for. We'll have to wait and see if he can manage those things in his next destination.

One thing is for sure now. It'll take some time for fans at Old Trafford to sign: "Argentina! Argentina!" again.

In other news...Manchester City have just secured he services of Paraguayan striker Roque SANTA CRUZ.

With ROBINHO already there. Now SANTA CRUZ. The return of JO from his loan at Everton...

Will Carlos walk straight into City's starting lineup?

At Liverpool...it's known that Rafa works best by using TORRES alone up front. See what happened to Robbie KEANE (a player that plays a similar style to TEVEZ).

If Carlitos goes to Anfield, he could be used in midfield just as Rafa uses Dirk KUYT (a former striker) on the right or Ryan BABEL on the left.

Not sure if that's the best that could happen to Carlitos.

Chelsea? He'll never play enough minutes. It'll be worse than what happened at Utd.

I've always preferred City to United (for their colours and because I never liked United), but one thing I'd hate to see is all those "fans" in Argentina that will throw away their Man Utd TEVEZ's shirts and buy the City or Liverpool shirt now.

I hate that! I'm sorry. I do.

Since Carlitos won't be at ManU, I hope he goes to Spain or Italy. If Rafa played a more wide open attack, I would like to see him at Liverpool. Definitely not Chelsea or Milan. Seems like a toss up amoung many clubs with so many transfers to work themselves out.

I'm actually dissapointed with Tevez' performance with the Nt. He never seems to be that dangerous kind of striker who can tear apart defences like how Messi does even with the Nt. Tevez and Aguero have dissapointed me in attack, Messi has been exceptional and plays the same way he does with Barca just that our Midfield is not as talented as Barca's. I really stress about Higuain's inclusion in our team because he penetrates defences and never loses the ball same like Messi. Kun and Tevez seem to be a bit very nervous when they get the ball. Whoever plays in attack against Brazil I hope we get the three points!

Tevez played great for the NT until he joined United. Only then did his form drop for Arg.

I think that he would do a great job in Italy. He needs to play in the Champions League. City would keep him from europe. Are they even in the Europa cup?

Tevez has lost his "special" attribute this year. this attribute was the joy of play. i clearly remember his days in South America especially in Brazil. Man he used to ignite the stadium with his dances, dribbles, goals, jokes,...it was the full package.

now you could see that he is not happy and that is affecting his performances. i just hope that he gets the team that he wants now before the Brazil game because we need him mentally strong.

by the way some news surfaced that Barca are looking to sign him...could it be Messi, Tevez, Mascherano? now that would be cool...

A very sad news for me, a Man Utd and Carlos Tevez fan. I think with C. Ronaldo out of the picture at old trafford, Tevez will be the main man for the red devils next season.. oh well.. I was so happy when Ferguson sign Veron, and everybody knows what happen next. Then Heinze came and go.. And now, Tevez... I don't understand why Argentinian never seems to be able to shine at old trafford(or in the premier league).. so long Carlitos, thanks for the memories..

Koma, Tevez shined very well in the Premier League. He was a hero at Westham and he was great in his first season with ManUtd. the problem is that just like Ferguson did with Veron, he again did it and killed Tevez...

Hi Koma, which of part of Malaysian you're from? Perhaps we can meet up someday. FYI, I live in Klang and work in PJ. Drop me an e-mail at sivanjohn@yahoo.com. Let see if we can plan something.

I have to agree with Mohd on the whole TEVEZ issue. The truth is he had terrific first season with Man Utd and then Fergie had to screw things up by signing BERBATOV whom I don’t have high regards for. Sorry about that. I’m pretty sure deep down it was tough decision for TEVEZ considering how much the fans loved him and the respect he had for them as well.

I too would have wanted to see TEVEZ remained at Old Trafford because many Red Devils fans in Malaysia have fallen in love with Argentine football after seeing him play. Not a surprise thing to me because everywhere he went he instantly became a fan favourite.

I’m sure upon his return to the Theatre of Dreams as an opposition player, he will be well accepted by the fans. They will never forget his contribution for the club.

I can’t say the same thing for C.RONALDO though.

We’ll wait and see where does he from here and you can bet to check out this space as soon as the news comes out.

@ Mohd.....
I totally agree with u mate.....
Although Tevez had a very successful time at the EPl and specially in Old Trafford.......I think his time here has made him loose his most important attributes......and all because of SAF........
Earlier he used to dance and dribble past players like they were not even there.......He was the man you turned to when u needed something to happen.....He was lightning quick as welll...
Now in OT he has lost a mile of speed,,,,cannot dribble for the love of god........
Now all he does is run and run....which although important is not the most feared attribute of a striker.....He has also lost an ounce of creativity.....
I think the best move for him would be to go to a club which will build its game play around Tevez......

Hope we can get the old Tevez Back......
Him with Messi would a tremendous STrike force....

Hi john, i'm a 30 years old freelance illustrator/graphic designer live in Damansara Perdana. I'm a big fan of football and Albiceleste is always my favourite since i was a kid.. (Maradona is my all time favourite player, and i name my first child Riquelme, crazy, i know..)
i've been following this blog for quite some times now, but because of my bad english, i don't post any comment, until now. hehehe..
Yeah, maybe we can meet and talk football sometimes, or better yet let's play futsal. Maybe we can have a Mundo Albiceleste futsal team in Kl.. :)

What if he would return to Boca for a single year? Just to become the old Tevez again, just before the WC?

johnny said...

Great idea LaTiNo ! I'd like to see another "chicken walk" at the Monumental !

Oof. The proud Italians are being butchered by the Samba Boys today. If the conservative Italians can't control possession against Brazil, well.........:(

Paulina said...

Well - I did say that I thought that Brazil would rip Arg apart. But now I think that Brazil's display would knock the fear enough in maradona that he might go into the game more conservatively. The underdog usually wins these games. it's pretty clear that at this point Arg is the underdog.

Sebastian said...

A big welcome to Koma! Glad you decided to post, mate! It's a pleasure to have you here.

Regarding Brazil:

I said it in the last pod, I fear only their counter-attacks. That's it.

If we are foolish enough to allow them to hit us on the break, we'll be signing our death sentence. Simple as that.

If we don't play their game, I reckon we'll have a chance in that game. Particularly because it's going to be played in Argentina and Brazil historically struggle when they play here.

Agree with Paulina, these performances from Brazil in the Confeds Cup are probably a good thing for us to take some precautions.

I REALLY want to see a final between Spain and Brazil now. I'm curious to see how Brazil will react playing against a team that knows how to keep the ball for the most part of 90 minutes.

As for TEVEZ:

I can't wait to find out who's going to sign him!

CAN'T WAIT!

And I hope he takes a good decision. It could be the most important of his career so far.

By the way...I completely agree with Mohd regarding the "happiness factor" in TEVEZ's game. I think he needs to feel he is the most important player of the team. He didn't feel that at Man Utd and he doesn't feel it with Argentina. In all the other clubs he played for, he felt it and he was.

That said...it's up to him to find the right motivation now. A change of clubs and a new scenario to play in, could be all he needs.

Good luck to him. I hope he gets good advice.

Hi Sirus! I remember you from chat room. You're from Mongolia right? Glad to hear from you my friend.

I do like the prospect of how City will look like season if TEVEZ signs for them.

John said...

Hey Koma, thanks for your reply on this thread. Futsal? Great idea! I do play with some of my friends during the weekend, mostly in Klang and on some occasion at Sports Planet Shah Alam. Let me know where do you play and perhaps I could make some arrangement to join sometime.

And some breaking news…

Franco ZUCULINI touted as “the new MASCHERANO” will be heading to Germany next season. Hoffenheim have confirmed that they have signed the 18 years old for €4.7 million from Racing Club (you guess it right, its Seba’s Racing).

Hi Sirus. Where did you read that about the confirmed move by TEVEZ to Man City?

I'm afraid we won't publish anything here until it becomes official.

SANTA CRUZ was announced. TEVEZ wasn't, but maybe you have some inside information you want to share with us.

Thanks and welcome to Mundo Albiceleste.

Hey...Johnny...would you like to write a regular column here on Mundo Albiceleste about all the gossip you hear in the underground circuit of Buenos Aires? I'm sure it'll be a success amongst our fans!

Seba-I'd like to write a column about Buenos Aires, futbol and the gossip with both, but I am too busy with my cocaine/amphetamine habit, fighting off manipulative gatos, appearing on Channel 9 between 5 and 7pm, and shooting pool with Martin Palermo and Pablo Migliore. But, I am working on limiting the tv appearances. I'll let you know ! Besos everyone ! Besos !!!

John said...

Hey Mohd, thanks for the link. I can't stop laughing too. Now I'm wondering, did Pele ever mentioned anything about Diego being our NT coach?

Mohd said...

so John, maybe Maradona knows what he is doing after all. the plan is clear: Let the team suck as hell until Pele says that Argentina won't qualify to the World cup; and then bang mission accomplished :)
