Sunday recap, so far...all bad news!

BASKETBALL:
Let's start with what happened late last night in Puerto Rico, where Argentina defeated the home team in the basketball friendly cup Tuto Marchand. Argentina ends up the tournament with 2 wins (against Brazil and Puerto Rico) and one loss (Canada). Brazil defeated Canada by 13 points and took home the cup. You can read more about the FIBA Americas preview if you scroll down this page and check what John wrote.

U17 WORLD CUP KOREA 2007:
Argentina started off wiht a disappointing 0-0 draw against Syria. I didn't watch the game but you can check out the goals at FIFA.com. Next match for Los Pibitos will be Honduras (a team that lost 4-2 against Spain in their first match).

Carlos TEVEZ:
Played 90 minutes in United 1-0 loss against a brave Manchester City team. The Red Devils were the better team during the first half hour, but Portuguese youngster, NANI, showed a lot of skill but very little brains, often misjudging and making wrong decisions. In the 31st minute, City had their first shot on goal and it went in (Geovanni). After that, it was all confussion for United and Micah RICHARDS, now playing as a central defender, was immense. Carlitos slightlly deflected a cross from the left and the ball went out kissing the right post. Then in the 90th minute, he couldn't connect properly with his head and again, the ball went just a couple of inches wide.

JAVIER MASCHERANO:
Stayed in the bench for Liverpool as they drew 1-1 against Chelsea (TORRES and LAMPARD the scorers).

PARAPAN-AMERICAN GAMES:
Argentina lost against Brazil (for a change!!!!) in the 5-a-side football tournament final (for blind athletes). It was 1-0 and a silver medal for us.

And to answer to our friend from Thailand that asked a couple of questions earlier:

I think our best players in this U17 team are Maximiliano OLIVA and Eduardo SALVIO.

SALVIO is a complete striker and, despite never seeing him in action, I've heard a lot of praise for him.

OLIVA went to Stamford Bridge for a trial at Chelsea. He is a commanding central defender and many pundits are comparing him to the great Daniel PASSARELLA (captain of our WC 1978 team).

Regarding PIBITOS. Here's the explanation:

PIBE is the Spanish word we use (only in Argentina) to say: BOY or MALE TEENAGER.

PIBITO means LITTLE PIBE, LITTLE BOY.

That's why I call the U20 team as LOS PIBES and the U17, LOS PIBITOS.

Bloody Sunday strikes again for Argentina. Well all but the u-20 team. You guys are lucky I do not get the u-17 games over here in the States.

Another piece of bad news:

José SOSA is injured (pubic pain) and won't go to Oslo with the rest of the Argentina squad that will face Norway on August 22nd.

johnny said...

Pubic pain ?! That sounds like a ready made straight line, but I will avoid adding a punch line !

Anonymous said...

I have just read a rumour about Tottenham Hotspurs making a 10m bid for Riquelme.

Is there any truth in this?

Seba, why are Federico Laurito and Lucas Trecarichi not included in the U-17 squad?

Anonymous said...

roman wont go to england.

Seba said...

Allan, this is part of one comment I made a few posts ago regarding LAURITO and TRECARICHI

"Federico LAURITO is injured and that's why he is missing this World Cup.

Regarding Lucas TRECARICHI, he is now playing for Sevilla Atletico (and this is really hard for me to explain in English. How do you call Barcelona B or Real Madrid B? They are like the "minor league" team of Barcelona and Real Madrid. Well...Sevilla Atletico is the "minor league" team of Sevilla. Sorry for the confussion).

I'm not sure why he is not a part of TOJO's team in Korea, but I don't think he is injured."

I thought Sosa was suffering from lumbago (lower back pain). What you said sounds much worse!

Tough luck for Tevez. I think what is really hurting him is that he is all by himself and isn't completely match fit (no preseason and he was almost never a starter during Copa America). Both hurt his pace (particularly against Richards who was both fast and spectacular). Apart from that I thought he did as well as he possibly could (what with the fitness and isolation issues).

Seba said...

Well, Johnny...Argentinafan...the injury SOSA has is PUBIALGIA (in Spanish). As I went to look for that in Wikipedia and Google, I've got PUBIC PAIN as the most similar result. Not sure how you translate it...

johnny said...

I think he has some lower back pain as I read online somewhere. Not to be offensive, but "pubic pain" can be caused by std's, or making love with a woman who is very skinny. :) A veces, la flaca is muy malo ! OK, that will be my last sexual reference for......today.

Nico said...

all i know is, tevez got beat by micah richards fair n square yesterday. when he made the outside tunnel, richards turned and was there before he was, fucking incredible. That dude has one of the best acceleration I've ever seen, not just in EPL.

Seba said...

And Johnny...what is the injury you get from making love to a very fat woman? Oh...I'm sorry...nevermind! :)

Nico, as for RICHARDS, I agree, he was immense. England should pray for him to stay fit and healthy because he might just be their number one choice for centre-back for the coming years (how long before he moves to Chelsea, Man Utd or Liverpool?).

However, your comment is unfair on Carlitos. Obviously, under normal circumstances (ROONEY fit, RONALDO not suspended, SAHA fit, etc), Sir Alex wouldn't have used Carlitos all of the 90 minutes on Sunday.

He is not 100% match fit and the team was horrible going forward. I think he was very unlucky not to score in a couple of plays but NANI and EVRA had better chances (in control of the ball, inside the area) and they wasted them big time. VIDIC hit the bar as well. In my opinion, TEVEZ played reasonably well and does not deserve all the critics he is receiving from papers like The Sun.

Apart from RICHARDS, all of City's defenders were absolutely brilliant! DUNN is getting better with age and CORLUKA really impressed me playing at right back.

Roy said...

Haha, good thing I have Dunn in my pool. I'll echo Seba's sentiments. Tevez does not deserve to get blamed for anything. Fergusson wanted Tevez to make his United debut on Sunday, but instead played on Wednesday(because of the Rooney injury). And I think he did well on Wednesday under the circumstances(first match for new club, drew the first game, the pressure, ect...). Second game he played well aswell. And like Seba said, he's not 100% match fit. So we'll see what happens.

Rio said...

Tevez is far from 100% match fit. He just went through a tough season, then Copa which short but very intense. Then he had the transfer saga and haven't recovered all his mental strength either.

However, if Tevez is fully fit, he still wouldn't of out ran Richards. If he got a good ahead start, possible. Richards is one of the fastest defenders in the world, not just england.

the critics from Sun is about the header. That I don't know if we can defend Carlito. It's a wasted chance, there were many wasted chances that match. Nani also hit a sitter, but then city also had some chances. The problem with ManU is simple, they don't have enough players on attack. It takes too long for their width and rear support to push up, and critical time were wasted.

When Saha and Rooney are fit, they'll be able to use their physical attribute to fatigue the defenders and allow Tevez's sprints later on to be more effective. That's hardly what we wanted though. We want to see Tevez play 90 min, we want to see him not just act as a sprinter, but also a creative forward from a supporting position.

I think Ole.com was reporting that he had "lumbalgia" which would be lumbago or lower back pain. At least I hope that's what he has cause the pubic pain would be worrying...

Lower back pain seems to be the current injury of choice for our players seems. Cata Diaz is now out because of a similar affliction (lower back pain, not pubic pain or else they both need to stay away from the same woman...hehe)

Hope they both recover quickly.

lookie. it says carlito but no diego milito. anyone know what's the deal?

johnny said...

Heinze won't be going to Liverpool. So will he suit up for ManU now, or head elsewhere ?

Roy said...

Does anyone know which channels will be airing the Argentina match tomorrow? I know the website http://livefooty.doctor-serv.com/ will be airing it but it will be amazingly slow due to the amount of people trying to watch. So far I checked 1 website which shows which channels are going air which games and I can't find anything for Argentina. Their all airing Euro 2008 Qualifiers and England/Germany.

Anonymous said...

HEINZE is in deep shit and he better find a way out before the AUG 31st deadline. Having already lost his No.4 to HARGREAVES, i would think he is now considered surplus to requirements at Old Traffod. GET UR ASS OUT OF THERE ASAP GABRIEL!!!

johnny said...

I agree ! Head for high ground Gabriel ! Lyon was interested or so they say. Any harbor in a storm.

johnny said...

Uh, that should be any "port" in a storm, but I think Heinze knows what I mean. :0

Thanks a lot Seba for the answer.

I heard that Paletta moves to Boca. I wish him well. I really like this kid. I think he moved to Europe too soon.

From.....Argentina fan club in Thailand

johnny said...

Yes, Paletta started training with Boca yesterday and is sure to play soon, as Boca's back line has been like swiss cheese.
