Aussie Grand Slam Underway

The first tennis Grand Slam of the year in underway with some of the first round fixtures being played today. Several representatives from the Albiceleste have completed the first round fixtures today and the result doesn’t sound good at all.
Agustin CALLERI was the only winner of the day after defeating Luis HORNA from Peru, 6-4, 6-7, 6-3 & 6-4.

Here are all the other results of the day

Juan Pablo BRZEZICKI lost to Sam WARBURG (USA) 6-2, 2-6, 3-6, 6-2 & 4-6
Martin Vassallo ARGUELLO lost to Jesse LEVINE (USA) 1-6, 5-7 & 1-6
Jose ACASUSO lost to Nicolas MAHUT (FRA) 6-7, 7-5, 2-6, 6-3 & 5-7
Juan Ignacio CHELA lost to Guillermo Garcia LOPES (ESP) 4-6, 2-6, 6-1 & 2-6

In Day 2 of the competition, perhaps the most anticipated encounter will be when Diego HARTFIELD takes on non-other than World No.1 Roger FEDERER. Is there any chance for HARTFIELD to create the biggest upset in the history of the Australian Open?

The one player that is most likely to be a contender here from Argentina, David NALBANDIAN will take on local boy Robert SMEETS. I don’t see much trouble from David expect that for the crowd getting behind their Aussies.

There will also be an Argentinean clash between Juan MONACO and Carlos BERLOCQ.

Meanwhile in the women’s single, our best hope Gisela DULKO will start her campaign against Caroline WOZNIACKI from Denmark

Here are the rest of the fixtures

Mariano ZABALETA vs. Peter LUCZAK (AUS)
Sergio ROITMAN vs. Denis GREMELYR (GER)
Juan Martin DEL POTRO vs. Santiago VENTURA (ESP)

It has always been tough for our players in Australia.

Our biggest hope is King David, but the problem is that he is being bothered by injuries and he almost pulled out of the tournament.

We'll see how he feels in his debut and hopefully he can get at least to the second week.
