PIPITA wins Madrid Derby for Real

Gonzalo HIGUAIN keeps showing that knack for scoring vital injury-time goals for Real Madrid.

On Saturday's big Madrid Clásico between Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid, the Argentine gave his team the three points and eclipsed a tired Kun AGUERO to make the headlines of every Sunday paper in Spain.

The 6 minutes of injury time seemed to give Atletico Madrid great hopes of scoring a winner after Simao SABROSA scored a lovely free-kick just before the 90th minute to equalise Rudd VAN NISTELROOY's first-minute strike.

As Atletico pushed for their second goal very late in the game, Royston DRENTHE got inside the box and was incredibly and stupidly fouled by HEITINGA and Real Madrid got a penalty kick to seal their win on the 96th minute.

Two Argentines were the main characters in this late and heated drama. Leo FRANCO had in his hands the chance to become the hero and secure at least one point for the Colchoneros. Gonzalo HIGUAIN, on the other hand, had the difficult task of controlling his nerves and score the crucial winner for la Casa Blanca.

And Pipita did it. FRANCO guessed where HIGUAIN would place his kick but couldn't stop it and Real Madrid gave their title push more strength by getting all three points from the Vicente Calderón stadium.

Apart from Leo FRANCO, two other Argentines, Kun AGUERO and Ever BANEGA also played for Atletico from the start. Kun had a chance to equalise with 10 minutes to go but he shot wide.

Fernando GAGO came back from injury to start for Real Madrid together with Gonzalo HIGUAIN, while Gabriel HEINZE sat on the bench.
