Player Ratings from Goal.com.

ABBONDANZIERI – 6: Didn’t have a whole lot to do before he had to be stretchered off injured. The extent of his injury is yet unknown but Argentina have now lost their two first choice goalkeepers.

ZANETTI – 6: Tried to do too much in attack but never really had the pace or the skill. He did have lots of determination and he came close to scoring because of it. But lost the ball far too many times in the opposing half.

DEMICHELIS – 6 Made a few decisive interceptions and tackles but gave the ball away a few times in dangerous areas.

COLOCCINI – 6.5: The steadier of the two centrebacks. Looked very calm and assured on the ground and in the air.

HEINZE – 2: Not only did he score an own goal, he clumsily clattered into his own goalkeeper to force him out injured. Never given a chance to redeem himself as he was taken off at the break.

MASCHERANO – 8: The only defensive player who looked secure and comfortable on the ball. Took blow after blow and tackle after tackle but got up everytime without so much of a wince.

CAMBIASSO – 7: Covered a lot of ground all over the pitch. Moved to leftback in the second half and wasn’t given the licence to roam upfront as he would’ve liked.

RIQUELME – 7: Could not get his passing range hooked up early in the game. Either that or the rest of his team wasn’t on the same wavelength. But gradually got himself more involved with some telling passes and crosses.

DI MARIA – 6.5: Carried over his brilliant Olympic form to the senior team. A livewire down the left flank and even had a few look-ins at goal. Unfortunately had to be sacrificed in the second half.

MESSI – 7: Struggled to get into the game initially. Saw more of the ball after Tevez’s sending off. Made a superb assist for Agüero by drawing out four defenders before slipping in an inch-perfect through ball.

TEVEZ – 6: By far the best player on the pitch in blue and white… until he got sent off for an “alleged” two footed tackle. A very harsh decision by the referee, it has to be said.

Substitutes:

CARIZZO – 6.5: Almost gave away the second goal with a sloppy clearance but then came to his side rescue immediately to deny Valdéz who almost capitalized on a Demichelis mistake.

CATA DIAZ – 6.5: Looked so much more solid and assured compared to the jittery Heinze. Also looked more threatening when bringing the ball forward. Had a chance to win a game with a free header late on.

AGUERO – 7.5: Made an immediate impact with his lively movements on and off the ball. Scored the vital equalizer with a well taken strike and had a couple more chances to grab the winner.

Do you guys agree with them?
