Mundo's podcast - Stealing a Hurricane

Mundo Albiceleste's podcast is back by popular demand (OK, it was only Paulina who asked for it, but we're sure there are many of you out there waiting to listen to our show!)

As promised in last week's edition, we got together with Sam Kelly from Hasta El Gol Siempre to discuss the incredible conclusion of the Torneo Clausura in which we witnessed one of modern football most shocking refereeing performances.

Also...what's going on at Boca Juniors and River Plate? Are their glory days over? What's in store for their future.

If you want, you can simply click the audio player above or right-click on the following link and save it as an MP3 file or listen to it in your computer: download.

Enjoy! And don't forget to send us your views to argentina.correspondent@gmail.com or right here in the comments' box.

The AFA announced that Brazenas, the ref in the Huracan-Velez match has been suspended. Why can't they get rid of these guys BEFORE they make a mess of things ? Oh, that's right, I forgot.:)

Pastore is a great prospect. He has been under the radar with Argentina Youth teams as well. You can say he is a diamond in the rough. I think he is our best domestic player in Argentina(Now he was). Had a solid year with Huracan. He has the size and has a lot of grace on the ball. You're asking why hasn't Maradona called him up? Because A he is not a Boca player. B- he likely does not kiss Maradona's arse. C- Same reason he does not call up players like Cambiasso,Higuain and Zarate because Maradona is a complete IDIOT when it comes down to coach or anything else really in life. Well in all honesty I think he still may need to prove himself a bit more. I wish we would of made the U-20 WC he would likely got a spot and showed his talents. Lets just wait and see how he fairs in Palermo. We do have a lot of great prospects playing at home and abroad though.

Oh Jack! You hate MARADONA, don't you? You don't give him space to breathe!

PASTORE is a great player, but I'm not happy about his move to Palermo. At Huracán he was at the heart of every attacking play (in a very offensive-minded team). At Palermo? I don't know whether he'll be able to play every week. I think his move came a little bit too soon for a player that had every chance of establishing as a proper candidate to be in the next World Cup squad as an option to have in the very critical play-maker position.

MARADONA did mention PASTORE to be in his plans for the domestic-based national team. Now...with him moving to Europe, I don't know where does that leave him in Diego's radar.

Same goes for ZUCULINI, who just moved to Hoffenheim and now he'll surely find it harder to break in into the team coming from Europe. That is if he gets to play every week at the Bundesliga.

PASTORE was supposed to join the U20 team BATISTA took to Venezuela early in 2009, but Huracán refused to let him go as they were preparing to start a Clausura tournament in which they needed to gather a lot of points to save themselves from relegation. They did so and PASTORE was instrumental. So much that they got to the final week of the season with a shot at the title.

Personally, I'd love to see him gradually inserted in our team's system. He could be a great addition for our team.

Also...you have to consider that there's only room for 22-23 players in our squad and there's no doubt a few very good players will have to be left out.

It has always been the case in the past. Hasn't it?

Guys - after this podcast I started to wonder about the development of defensive players coming out of the Arg. leagues. I wonder why they don't produce the same number of quality players that they do with midfielders and enganche types. Arg is so strong, but their strongest players usually compete for 3 spots, there are so many more "messi" types than "mascherano" types, and especially "ayala" types, who are probably the most important for the biggest games in tricky tournaments.

Otamendi (sp) sounds promising, which is good. But I do wonder about the strong defenders of the future.

really interesting pod.

So Pastore is a Palermo player now...

Way too soon. Another talent who goes to directly to Europe after barely 4-5 months spent in Argentina....

Seba, I do not hate Maradona I hate his choices that he has made in the past and now as a coach. Sure in the past I could turn the other way and said I could care less what he did off the field as long as he did greatness on it. Now him blundering up every other game I see all the drugs have really messed with his head and that is not a joke. I think Pastore will get games with Palermo. Rumors had Man United and some other major clubs after him. I say it is a good move, a bit early? I do not think so, i think he has the ability such as Aguero and Higuain to excel right away. He can be a star. I am happy he went to a small club, Crespo went to Parma after River then slowly moved up the club teams. I do not think he will turn into a bum like a Maxi Lopez who can not find the back of the net if the GK is not even there! Or I do not think he will be like Di Santo who can not even make the first team of Chelsea which is a major club and well it is not easy. About Di Santo rumors have him going to Blackburn on loan. I also think he will be a better overall player then lets say a Di Maria which I maybe his biggest fan here but has lost brownie points from his actions vs Bolivia. He is not as flashy but has a lot more grace. Here is a article about Pastore dubbed "Maradona the only one still to be blown away by Huracán's Pastore". Sorry Seba we all know Maradona sticks to his players and the team we see now will likely be the team we see for the WC. I hope I am wrong but if I am not, we win our group in the WC, play ET or even go to PK's vs a nation we should beat without a problem then lose in the QF in heartbreaking fashion.

Other than Pastore, my Brother yesterday told me that he watched an argentine player in one match he couldn't get his name but he said he was so good that he compared him with Maradona himself!! He said that it was an Argentina - Egypt match so i guessed it was that tournament in france and he was the captain with long hair so I guessed Banega? My brother said that everytime he got the ball he dribbled past many players and asked me about his status if he's in the national team... Do you guys think he can improve this year if he leaves Valencia and join Arsenal and does he have potential to be in Gago place in time for the world cup?

John said...

Hey Messidona19, thanks for reminding me about BANEGA. Long time no news about him. I'm not sure his time has arrived for the NT considering that we have GAGO and MASCHERANO commanding the DM role there.

He did partnered well with "Mad Masche" in Beijing last year and I believe he has potential, perhaps in the long run. But that only if he plays regularly at club level.

Mohd said...

Banega-should he live up to the expectation-can not only be better than gago but can be the best midfielder since the amazing redondo.

i first seen him in the latest youth WC which Argentina won. back then everyone was monitoring aguero, but i was sure that the biggest talen is banega.

should he carry on and not become a flop like many others is a thing to see...after all in 2001 i predicted that D'Allesandro would take the world by storm. (i guess pele is prediction mentor :))

messidona, why would he replace Gago? Pastore is more of a true MF that attacks. He would replace a Lucho or so.

About Banega, yes he showed a lot of promise. But off the field he seems to be a party boy hence our manager. The difference is Banega shows flashes of magic. But lets not get silly, nobody and I mean nobody will replace a Redondo.

jack, messidonna was talking about Banega to replace Gago, not Pastore.

Banega is too green unfortunately to be considered NT material even though he has lots of potential. He played a couple of games last year with Atletico and took a lot of red cards and scored one goal. But he often came off from the bench.

msi2 said...

I'm also very disappointed in how Gago is turning out right now. Thinking of it, Real Madrid is not really a club where you can improve if you're a youngster. Cambiasso did the experience before him and he had to go to Italy before exploting again.

Man do i hate this club.

Higuain said

"I would reject a call from France because my heart is Argentine".

this player is priceless...call him maradona damn it!!

messidona19 said...

Well Banega or Pastore, I'd prefer any of them from Gago, even Cambiasso should now be playing instead, I mean don't get me wrong Gago is an exceptional player but he shouldn't beb partnering Mascherano, Gago's not the best defensive midfielder and he has nothing to offer in the attacking compartment, all I see from him is simple passes.
I hope one of Pastore, Banega or Zucculini hit it big next season and take Gago's place but unfortunately I don't see that happening with Maradona choosing his friends in the team.
