Again, thank you everyone for voting for the midfielders. We only have 2 categories left. The pick your defenders and pick your goalkeepers. I haven't spoken to John, so I haven't received his votes yet for the midfielders, but here are my votes:
AIMAR, BANEGA, CAMBIASSO, DI MARIA, LUCHO, MASCHERANO, PEROTTI
Two wingers in DI MARIA and PEROTTI(I would pick MAXI, but his form is horrible), two/three DM's in CAMBIASSO, MASCHERANO and BANEGA(depending on how you use Ever) and two playmakers in AIMAR and LUCHO. For me, BANEGA is a useful player to have, much like PIRLO. Very useful on a team if used properly. But enough with my list, it's time to pick the defenders!
Just like the midfielders, you can pick 7 defenders. We decided on 6 strikers, 7 midfielders, 7 defenders and 3 goalkeepers.

Javier ZANETTI
You know how it works by now!
This is a little easier than selecting our midfield. Here are my seven....
ReplyDeleteMartin Demichelis (future captain in my opinion)
Javier Zanetti (as Captain)
Jonas Gutierrez (I think he is better suited as a defender on the national team instead of a mid)
Pablo Zabaleta
Walter Samuel (I would have him start every qualifier/friendly/competitive match if I were in charge)
Gabriel Heinze (not joking. He hasn't been the greatest for the national team but he has found form in Marsielle. We all know he will be selected anyways)
Ezequiel Garay (he has the oppurtunity to shine with Real Madrid since Pepe is out for the season. This will hopefully earn him a spot in South Africa)
Reserve: either Emiliano Insua or Nicolas Otamendi
Starting backline (right to left)
Gutierrez-Demichelis-Samuel-Zanetti

ReplyDeleteSeven defenders:
Martin Demichelis
Walter Samuel
Javier Zanetti
Emiliano Insua
Ezequiel Garay
Cristian Ansaldi
Marcos Angeleri
I don't know how Angeleri is doing in rehab and whether he will be ready. I like him if he is ready. He can play in the center or at fullback. No more Heinze. I watched Monzon at Boca and he stunk it up on defense. Not ready for prime time.I've seen alot of Zabaleta at Man City-not a very athletic guy and fouls too much. My choice if Angeleri is not ready would be a toss up between Burdisso and Cata Diaz.
Javier Zanetti, Walter Samuel, Ezequiel Garay, Martin Demichelis, Emeliano Insua, Gabriel Heinze, Nicolas Burdisso
ReplyDeleteMine:
ReplyDelete-Martin Demichelis (watching his passion against Spain, I'm convinced that he's one of those who gets pumped up playing against big teams)
-Walter Samuel (I think if we ask the whole Argentines who know football, I'm pretty sure at least 99% would select him)
-Nicolas Burdisso (I like the idea of a defensive minded right back and for me he's the best)
-Clemente Rodriguez (if you really watch football, he's the best full back we have...ask Iniesta)
-Christian Ansaldi
-Nicolas Otamendi
-Pablo Zabaleta
The first four is my starters. If Gonzalo is healthy and does improve then I'd select him instead of Otamendi.

Centre backs: Samuel, Demichelis, Garay, Milito/Fazio.
ReplyDeleteWing-backs: Jonas, Zanetti, Ansaldi.
I think either Garay or Fazio should be selected because of their heights. Garay is 6 ft 2.5 in and Fazio is 6 ft 5 in. We have always lacked towering centre-backs.

I dont think the CB is the problem, I think the wings are, Zanetti going to be able to keep up with Messi is Zabaleta any better? Heinze or Insua? CB is good with Samuel, Dimechelis, Garay, Fazio and Milito...
ReplyDeletegaray/Milito(Depends on form at the time)
ReplyDeletedemichelis (No question)
samuel (Best Def in ARG,Serie A and definitely one of the best in the world)
Zabaleta (very Versatile, can play on either flank,in MF as well)
Burdisso(Can play across the back,SOlid performances for Roma)
zanetti rb
Ansaldi lb
My defender list:
ReplyDeleteMartin Demichelis
Javier Zanetti
Gonzalo Rodriguez
Gabriel Heinze
Emiliano Insua
Walter Samuel
Pablo Zabaleta
The biggest problem is that our defenders, regardless of who we pick, lack speed. In my opinion Demi&Samuel should be our CB's, but none of them are really fast. Our defence and keepers are our weakest spot, everyone knows this. We have no great keepers and defenders, just good or mediocre ones.

You gotta have a mix of speed and stability in the back and this group of players fits that roll. You also have solid veterans who can teach up and coming/established defenders. If only Maradona had me on speed dial!!haha

milto/gonzalo (i will take milto ahead of gonzalo if he picks up the forum)
garay(i have high hopes for him he reminds me of LAURENT BLANC.very calm, comanding, tall, great passer of the ball aswell).
angelri (if he picks up forum,a very intresting player)
monzon(he was briliant at the olympics thats why i take him ahead of insua, ansaldi)
burdisso (i dont really like him but he can play everywhere in defence). my team will be
3-4-1-2
romero
garay,micho,heinze
jonas,masche,(gago/banega/cambiasso),d maria
messi
(higuain/milito),(saviola/teves)
but maradona will take these defenders

4.gaby heinze (on the left...not the centre defend!)
5.ezequel garay
6.javier zanetti
7.christian ansaldi
Marcos Angeleri (he is currently the best RB in Argentina defensively and offensively when healthy if not then Zabaleta should be considered instead)
ReplyDeleteMartin Demicheles (a good solid defender but not a leader he lacks great mental toughness which is needed in a leadership role! but if put next to a leading defender hes one of the best you can see defensively)
Ignacio Canuto (hes the type of player you can play anywhere! remember Cufre? that type RB, LB, CB 4 man backline, 3 man backlline, headers he does a little of everything and is a very solid defender)
Walter Samuel (Leadership, mental toughness, experience, and currently the best defender in Argentina)
Ezequiel Garay (playing well in Madrid! always did well in Spain and never got a chance with the NT he should be at least a sub on the NT)
Nicolas Pareja (i personally think hes the best right after Demi, Samuel, Garay! Gonzalo i like but his form dipped! Millito just came back from an injury and this guy has been solid for Espanyol for 2 years now!)
Christian Ansaldi (best Argentina LB! experience playing the CL and hes good defensively and offensively the thing that made me pick him over Insua is his age and IQ, Insua's game readings are still not very well developed thats why hes 2nd on my list)
Outside Considerations:
Pablo Zabaleta (Plays everywhere! and is solid everywhere!)
Federico Fazio (Big and a very good young defender who might be a starter in the future)
demichelis,samuel,zabaleta,ansaldi,heinze,zanetti,jonas
ReplyDeleteThis is the most crucial and important list of all:
ReplyDelete1- Javier Zanetti (he undeservedly
missed the 2006 Wc and I won't want him to miss another Wc and have 130+ caps for us)
2- Walter Samuel (He too missed 2006 wc because of the hypocrite Pekerman and he's our best defender right now)
3- Ezequiel Garay (First time i heard about him was that he will be the next Ayala and he really is fulfilling that promise)
4- Martin Demichelis (bit overrated by some commenters who keep on praising him, I don't really like him but he's better than Burdisso, Otamendi or Collocini but he won't be my starter)
5- Gabriel Milito (Class defender, if he plays consistently for Barca then he would be my starter)
6- Gabriel Heinze (He isn't the best argentine defender ever but he's sometimes decent when he plays left back)
7- Emiliano Insua (I want him to be our next Left Back, but he needs to regain his place for Liverpool)
My Back Four will be Zanetti - Samuel - Milito/Garay Insua
