i think we seriously need the experience and the calmness of veron in the middle to control the game now.

2-0 in first half. Wow, very nervous in our backline. Makes me worried. Maradona absolutely must strenghten team defence. Luckily, we leading with controversial goal and mexico blunder.

    ReplyDelete
  10. Yes I agree. The team look unbalanced without Veron or Pastore. Messi was kind of selfish in the first half, trying to dribble too much, although it's partly because our positioning was not good.

Anyway, I think we have quite a lot of lucks so far in the tournament :-). Looks like this will be our time, hehe :D

  11. We are paying too much respect to Mexico, whenever they attack I can see everyone backing off.
What happened to the pressurizing the ball in the midfield by the likes of Mascherano, tevez and likes.

For me, I think is better for us back to 4-2-2 system in knock out stages. Our defence very vulnarable. Damn, how can we beat Germany with team like this. They will demolish us. Hope we can win this game. I get nervous..

3-1...just like I said. Weak referee, we played a good game I thought.

  16. Defence was weak but not as but god Demi is shit. And I really don't know what the hell Diego was thinking when he brought Veron. It should have been pastore even though Tevez just needed to be there. If he does something like this again and again; we are in for a very very sad awakening. I hope I am again wrong cause it doesn't matter if I am wrong but I don't want Diego to be wrong.

    Now the Germans....

    Vamos Argentina

  17. good game!
shitty game. forget my previous comment about balanced game with germany. with this shitty tactics and worst midfield ever they will demolish us.
and no one reply with an emotional reply like "are you a fan?"...talk science and facts. the first worthy team we face and we play like shit.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Moderate game by argentina standards.
If I was the coach i would take offence with the attitude displayed by quite a few. Never chased balls or pressurised the mexicans. Only poor the quality of the mexicans saved us.

Messi seemed uninterested due to absolute lack of distribution from our midfield. He had to drift to the halfway line to get the ball.

Pastore has to be in for the next game. Maxi brought nothing and so did di maria. One of them has to go.

Maradona made some brave decisions - dropping veron and jonas. He has to make two more - get samuel for demi and pastore for dimaria / maxi. Else our midfield is non existant.

Seba, I'm dissapointed with performance. After leading 3-1, suddenly the players lost spirit. They lost their harmony. I don't like their attitude. Lazy. Many wrong pass. Maxi outclash in the midfield. Mascherano and Maria too.
What's wrong with Tevez? He didn't like being substitute! Messi did not kick ball at all. He just walk and walk. Phew, how can we beat Germany with team like this. Frustrating.

    with Maradona luck has returned!

i went totally mad when we scored the first goal. then i saw the mexicans protested and prayed the ref doesn't disallow it.

and remember: 4 years ago a regular messi goal against mexiko was disallowed for offside! if it stood, we would have won in 90 minutes.

but in this tournament, we can't complain till now at all. and that is the difference compared to 4 years ago. 3 correct goals disallowed before the 1/4 last wc, this time we walked so EASLIY to the 1/4, i can't believe it!

we will beat germany. i worry only about the ref, but i am sure we will win. now we will show our best football from now on.

    Vamos Argentina.

  21. I would rate heinze and tevez highest. Low marks to demi, masch, maxi and di maria. a 6 to messi and a 7 to higuain.

  22. I wont think of germans yet.
Let enjoy this moment after a tense match.
i wonder how many fouls and kicks did the dirty mexicans inflict on Messi and Co.
This is horrible. Refs shud come out with yellow cards to stop the cynical side of football.
Though the scoreline was 3-1. two of goals were lucky, though I take them with all my hands.
I was tense all thru the match, except when we were 3-0 up. 3-1 was making me very very tense, as we were not controlling the ball (playing the one twos in the midfield) and they were giving away the ball and just sitting back as then another goal would have led to a very very stressful last few mins.
I think we should be more confident and try to control the game more in the midfield like we did in the earlier matches.
Messi was not able to play to his best most probably because of the kicks and the fouls Mexicans inflicted. However I feel Veron is integral in getting Messi to his best and veron is also integral in being able to give the ball to Messi more often.
Also at times it seemed to me that Messi is trying too hard, trying to get something done on his own (not the Messi i saw in the group games). probably it is because he is so desperate to get his 1st goal. My heart goes out to him.
But I think the experienced and calm head of veron on the field can help Messi with the ball in his feet, enjoy the game more and think less about the lack of goals for instance.
Messi-higuain-tevez will strike fear in the hearts of even the greatest defences for sure.
Before I forget, my salute to Mascherano and also I am happy he managed to control himself and not get another yellow.
Hopefully the Wall will be fit on next saturday and then we can have a solid backline of
    Heinze- Demi- Wall- Burdisso
before I forget, special mention for the unrelenting Heinze. He showed awesome passion, great commitment in getting in front of the attacker and clearing the balls that came in from the corners, sidelines. I bow to heinze.. awesome mate.. keep it up.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Anonymous1:37 pm

by the way, the ref helped us very much with that goal, but he allowed mexiko foul us through the whole game! messi was fouled many times before in the first half, and one mexican even jumped into heinze and heinze flew out 5 meters of the football field and no yellow card, wtf?

and did someone noticed how Heinze bumped into the camera after the second goal? we need players like heinze and tevez, true warriors!

  24. the funniest moment in the match is when maradona was asking his team to distribute and play the ball. WHO THE F*** WILL DO THAT?

and in the second half, it was Messi of the qualifications all over again. disgusted, lost, and useless.

Argentina play like shit! The worst team who get into quartel final. Even Ghana more decent than Argentina. Germany gonna beat us with 7-0. Maradona, you ruin this team. Need to work very hard.

    ReplyDelete
  26. whoever this is .. saying we played like shit or the worst, please go back and watch the game..
we were fouled left right and center.
I will agree we were not "AWESOME" but we dont need to be superlative every time, sometimes we need to be efficient, soak up the pressure and play hard.
I am happy after the tense.
I would have preferred if we had controlled the game more and played more of the beautiful football but no ways it was a worst or even bad performance, it was a great steely performance and a good decent performance football-wise.

Reminiscence of our qualifier games, except that we won today. Maradona has no clue on tactics. Not sure how long this luck will continue. The third goal really helped us a lot. In the second half we neither defended nor did we have any play going forward. With this midfield and defence we are going to get ripped by Germany.

We need to get Pastore for DiMaria and Bollatti for MAxi. Also hope Samuel gets fit. DiMichellis is an absolute wreck. How easily did Martinez round him for that goal and how many times he was out of position. Would not mind having a back four of Otamendi - Burdisso - Heinze - Clemente

Happy that we won but worried about our chances going forward.

    Vamos Argentina!!

@apocalyptic creator: I always support Argentina. I'm happy we win. But with this performance, I'm not sure. It's true the opponents play dirty. But other team will do the same to us. The only way to frustrate us with heavy pressure. Mexico had bad luck with the two first goal. Seeing how easily Mexico beat our defender, don't expect luck! If Maradona need a luck, he better use 4-5-1 formation. HOw can we beat pragmatic team like Brazil with lethal counter attack or Spain free flow football??

    ReplyDelete
  30. Anonymous2:00 pm

i can't hear this bashing of our performance anymore!

it was not possible to play "good" football, cause mexiko kicked and fouled and ripped shirts all the time!

    first half:
    Argentina: 5 fouls committed
    Mexico: 14 fouls committed!!!

and only one yellow card in the frist half for maxico, a joke! i know, we shouldn't complain about the ref, but in the first 20 minutes i was really angry.

there is no beatiful football possible in games like these. you must win, no matter how. and after the second goal i knew we will win it, and the players also knew it.

believe me, there is nothing to fear from germany! it will be a hard defensive fight, like always Argentina and Germany play at the wc, and we will win it.

  34. I won't bas the performance and Mexicans had a clear strategy; get the ball and run. When Argentinian players have the ball; disrupt the play even if it needs risky fouls. But looking at what Materrezi did, opponents will do anything to win. We just need to keep our cool and play the ball and after Tevez scored and mostly after Veron came; we absolutely never had any good control of the ball. The germans with Oezil and gang wont be as bad as the mexicans and we have to accept luck was as much as on our side as it is against messi. But Messi just played horribly today; the worst I have ever seen from him. He just was not happy, clear as a day. And if Diego doesn't start using some goddamn common sense, we might overcome Germany but then the spanish and the brazil. That will need a heck alot of a luck and many mistakes from the best teams and players in the world. I hate my pessimism but DIEGO MUST KNOW, VERON IS NOWHERE NEAR XAVI. Why the hell can't he see what everyone else including people who rarely watch football can see? Goddman it; I am just frustrated man. Sorry but I wish someone put a vuvuzela in his ears and say that to him. Maybe that will awaken him.

Pessimtic is just seeing it very hard and my pessimism is simply at Diego doing the same thing over and over again when it is not working well. I mean I know it will change nothing no matter how much I shout here but I am not getting carried away yet. Will very much wait to hear your views.

  37. I agree with the negative bunch today.

We were *very* lucky we (finally) got help from Blatter and his stupid no-technology Dogma, because we were not creating any chances and ball possession was really difficult.

Second half was really dreadful. WE couldn't keep possession for more than 10 seconds. Messi didn't want to play anymore and should have been replaced by Pastore.

Di Maria, I love Di Maria, and I was hoping for him to be the star this WC, but nothing from him today....again...

And Demi, omfg.....Please replace him next match. I want

    Otamendi - Burdisso - Samuel - Heinze/Clemente.

I'm also afraid that Germany will rip us apart, and if the won't, Spain will, or Brasil....

oh, Romero was very bad too today, he was lucky most shots were not on target, he looked like a clown.

Any positives? Yeah, Otamendi did his best, Tevez was a warrior, Burdisso was safe, Heinze fought like an animal and Mascherano didn't pick up a yellow card :)

    Romero: 4
    Otamendi: 7
    Demichelis: 4
    Burdisso: 6
    Heinze: 7

    Mascherano: 7
    Maxi: 5
    Di Maria: 4
    Messi: 5
    Tevez: 9
Higuain: 6 (thanks to his goal)

Go back a few articles from here.. I posted 3-1 when half of you were so worried. Piece of cake if you ask me. Piece of cake. Heinze was the man of the match alongside with Carlitos.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Anonymous2:38 pm

Agree, Heinze working so hard. In this tournament he rarely speak. Maybe he know many of Argentina fans hate him. But look, his performance tonight really good. The best so far. Maybe our target this time should be Demichelis. Demi looks like 36 year old defender. Several mistakes, easily beaten one on one situation, bad judge on ball. The positives side: Tevez makes goal.

    ReplyDelete
  40. A.T
your comment of "are you football fans..." is really frustrating.
yes i am a fan but i happen to be able to read what is going on.
do you realize how lucky we were tonight? they hit the post and we score two fluke goals. even the third goal was lucky.

now you would argue that you need luck to win. Definitely, but that would be Brazil luck. A balanced side who does not care anymore about playing good football but has a hell of defence and midfield that can control the game.

what do we have. i have been shouting since the group stage matches that we cannot continue with the same formation. Mexico were unlucky to rip us apart, but a team like germany will.

i am still 100% convinced that we have a better team than Germany. but the selections are just crazy.

and by the way: i am not happy that Tevez scored 2 goals! because my only hope was to play Pastore instead of Tevez to have creativity in the midfield. why instead of Tevez and not DiMaria? simple because DiMaria does cover his role as a midfielder defensively. something which we will badly need against strong teams. Tevez can be the second half super sub.

but instead Maradona empties our midfield and when he decides to do the change: he brings Veron and not Pastore. and again Veron proves to be such a useless player. cannot run, cannot pass, cannot shoot: usless.

i am a fan and wish nothing more than winning the WC. but with this midfield we stand no chance. with these idiotic tactics and changes we have no chance.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Anonymous2:58 pm

Mohd, I will comment on the rest of your paragraph later,
but if you are a football folower, you would knpw that u can't say if we didn't get the first goal, this would have happened, tactics are changing based on what is happening every second, and based on what was going on we ended up winning 3-1, not 1-0 not 2-0, 3-1. BECAUSE of what has happened, so it is not that if we didn't get the first goal they would have gotten a goal as well. Maybe if they scored the first, we would have changed tactics and scored 5
this is how you should think of football. you can't say we played like shit when all the world is trying to avoid meeting us... it is irrational.
as i said I will get back to the rest later, I have to continue celebrating now :D then watch the game again

today proved we cannot play the holding defencive game, it does not work for us and we dont have the players for it and as they say the best form of defence is attack.
next game no maxi or veron please, neither have the legs and both slow us down way to much .
pastore has to start and this will free up messi and de marie(who has been bad) but it will free them up.
    we play best a pace.
also with pastore, messi,de maria, hig and tevez their is a lot of quick passing and pace to burn.
its hard to defends against all those players/ball moving fast.
it would also stop messi having 3-4 around him.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Anonymous3:01 pm

    Mohd,

have you ever watched Argentina-Germany at the wc? then you must know, then there will be no ripping off, from both sides.

both teams will try to destroy and we will see physical game with many fouls. 1966, 1986, 1990, 2006 and even the friendly months, they all were that way.

messi fought for every ball in the first half today. he was fouled many times and the mexicans were not punished. he played the pass for tevez 1:0, even if it was irregular. you can't expect him to score 2 goals every game, that won't happen, forget it, but his goals this is not the reason why he is so important.

what happened in the second half is not so important, there was no way we will lose it after scoring such lucky 2 goals, these are wc rules. and after tevez scored the 3rd, messi should substituted, cause i feared mexico will injury deliberately because of the frustration of the first goal.

really, we shouldn't understaminate germany, but also not be feared just because they player really really good today. they always struggle against us, just they had luck many times, but not this time. we will win it, and i don't care if we play good or not. we don't need to play good to win, that is the trua characterisation of the champion.

we all have our favorite players.
Maybe Pastore is a great player, however he is young and in such intense crucial matches its hugely risky to play a young mind in the midfield and he is not a Messi and even messi was ignored many times in his 1st WC.
it needs a lot of experience and mind to play high intensity games which can be gained by playing regularly week in and week out against the greatest oppositions in high pressure games.
So I think you shud also provide some space to Maradona.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Anonymous3:07 pm

    Everyone,
Again, take a deep breath. There were positives, and negatives.
    The positives...
We played defensively for a good portion of the match and we did not concede but one goal.
Messi, Tevez, and Higuain played well.
Otamendi played well, along with Heinze and Burdisso. Demi was average, but good for him. Samuel can take his spot.
    We won the match
We match up better with Euro teams that are not hack artists.
    We adapted to the game

    The Negatives

We were WAY WAY TOO nervous to start the game.
It was like the team forgot who they were and were crapping themselves. Lots of nerves.

We need a creative midfielder to play. As I mentioned you get a little faster Veron in Maxi. Pastore needs to play. If you don't want to play Pastore, play Jonas. At least he chases down the balls for us and prevents forward motion.

Mascherano was no impact in todays game.

Our midfield needs to be DiMaria, Mascherano Pastore for the 1000th time. When will Diego figure this out?

Demichelis needs to go. He is too slow.

    Comments welcome,
    Dan

  46. The point that all of us are trying to make is we need to focus on playing possession and fast football. The reason being our defense and our goal keeper are nowhere near the level that is needed to get us the cup.

Romero looks really like a rabbit in front of headlight. His positioning was horrible and his gathering dint breed any confidence. There is no way we are going to win another match with this kind of defending.

So the best form of defense is offense. And for that we need a player that can support Messi and in the current squad no better player than Pastore.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Anonymous3:14 pm

we are going to be ripped if we played like this against germany. We didn't play well at all. We were defending a large portion of the 2nd half, and didn't create any real chances on their goal (tevez and higuains goal were luck)

I hope maradona sees this. Di maria, well he is a good talent, but has to be dropped. He has shown nothing this world cup so far. Veron must start because if we don't have him, we will not have much possession at all (as shown today)

The starting lineup should be like this against germany:

    Romero
    Otamendi BURDISSO SAMUEL Heinze
    Mascherano
    Veron Pastore
    Messi
    Tevez Higuain

I think our team would be MUCH better this way

    ReplyDelete
  48. Interesting line up. I would just make one change Bollati for Veron. The reason being we need to cover the plays of Oezil and Poldoski on the left and Klose and Muller on the right. Expecting Veron to mark is just out of question considering the speed at which Germans play. We need help for Mascherano. Would have loved to have Cambiasso or Banega for this game. But with the given options Bolatti is the best.

DiMaria and Maxi are playing out of their positions. Guess that is the reason they have been very ineffective.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Guys guys...u should join in the celebration. Our team won today! We will regroup and counter the Germans as our revenge...no need of those frustrating comments. Our back line only conceeded 2 goals and we are through to the 1/4 finals. Chill out my brothers, this world cup is ours!!! Vamos Argentina!!

  50. for all that is being said here:
we have seen how our offence can rip apart a defence earlier.
Today we also saw how the team can collectively defend and protect a lead with their lives (sometimes not silky to the eye), it was nice to see that part of the team too.
Accepted we shud concentrate on playing possession football and I hope we do so and play with no fear.
in my opinion due to the derby nature of this tie with Mexico, we played with more fear than freedom and paid too much respect to Mexico.

    ReplyDelete

Tevez dissapointed being substitute. He said, "I was fighting and felt well, (but) I didn't understand why I was substituted.
"I wasn't getting the ball so much, but neither were some other players.

His statement annoyed and can disrupt team harmony. I know he plays well. But Maradona decision based on tactical matter. After we lead 3-0, the team seems unbalance. Tevez must put aside his ego for team solidity.

Bad news for him, when he found his touch for goal, Maradona maybe need to adjust his strategy against Germany. It looks like he will use 4-4-2, like in friendly match which we won. Maybe not too offensive, but more balance and bring comfort in middle and backline. The victim? Must be Tevez this time.

  52. You guys all sound insane.

Argentina was trying to kill the game at 3-1. That's why they didn't press forward, and they didn't risk anything. If they needed to, they would have gone out to try to score, but why take the chance. Don't you negative nellies understand that about the WC? They want to WIN. No matter how. So they kill a game, and when you kill a game, you usually do it without glamor.

They are in a great position. Hopefully Samuel will be healthy.

I look at this game as Arg not being in 2nd gear and still beating a really good Mexican side quite easily. They shouldn't have had the first goal, but they played with a lot of confidence. That Tevez goal was the goal of the tournament so far.

They still have another gear in them. They are about where they should be in this stage of the tournament. Not peaking yet.

So you negative freaks really need to take a chill pill and learn a little about the WC! Sheesh!

    ReplyDelete
  53. Okey Paulia; because I worry about the team that makes me a negative freak. So let me reply you although I don't like to go on a flame war sort of thing but this is just wrong to say that because we won doesn't mean we have a heck loads of problems.

    1. Argentina was trying to kill the game right you say but when did the goal came? I guess no team wants to loose and I don't want them to defend with glamour but the way we played with so less possession around the end when it is one of our greatest strength, you think it will favour us?

    2. I am not pessimistic about the forward or overall team performance. Heck, Heinze is proving us all wrong; so I am hopefully but you really think the way to kill a game is to bring Veron and not Pastore in the place of Tevez? Veron was supposed to hold the ball; pass it. But please tell me was it effective?

    3. Maradona needs to control himself until we at least reach the final and stop gloating. I love his attitude sometimes but every time he faces the camera, he keeps saying to journalist to apologise to him. Rather then saying the same thing over and over again and wasting time there, he could spend that time on something else; maybe even relaxing. I will never wish this to happen but if Germany kill us like they did England, who is Diego going to blame?

    4. In the end; we all want Argentina to win. Some of you guys see things more positively, 4 wins in a row and only 2 goals conceded. Some see more of the mistakes and have hard time containing our angst. This is what this site is for. But to call us freaks just cause we are talking about some valid and maybe invalid points; come on. Prove us wrong, fine.

As I said, I will be the happiest man in the world if Diego keeps proving me wrong. I sure as hell don't want to be right on my fears but what worries me is; it's not just me.

    Vamos Argentina

Sometimes we expect Argentina to always play beautiful football n won comfortably the way we did in Olympics 2004 n WCY 2001 (Saviola), but come on...it's WC!

Maradona did amazing until the 70th minute where we chose to play very defensive. That should be a lesson for us. In 2006, we were 7 mins away from the semifinal, but Pekerman made this same mistake.

I have a feeling that we will score the first goal against germany. Let's not be satisfied....not play an ultra defense tactic after.
