MILITO: New poster boy for the worldwide media

Right, so here's how Inter's Champions League title and Diego MILITO's personal performance got reflected on the media worldwide.

Traditional Argentine newspaper 'La Nación' through their sports portal 'Cancha Llena' says: "In a glorious day, Milito is the flag-bearer for Inter's triumph"

ESPN in their Spanish portal just reads: "MILITO CAMPEON!"

The biggest newspaper in Brazil, O Globo, reflects in their sports page how: "Inter conquers Europe 45 years after". And adds: "MILITO scores both goals in their win over Bayern Munich at the Santiago Bernabeu".

Soccernet just reads: "Champions" and points out how "A Diego MILITO double was enough to see off Bayern"

Argentina only national sports newspaper, Olé, reads: "What else do you want, Diego?" playing with the fact that both, MILITO and MARADONA share the same first name. "With two 'golazos' (great goals) and a sensational performance, Diego MILITO gave Inter the Champions League at the Bernabeu.
We close this tour of the international media with our 'friends' from The Sun. The headline says it all really.

  1. A few other interesting things:

Lionel MESSI was the top-scorer in the Champions League for a second consecutive season. He scored 8. Diego MILITO needed two more to reached Lio's tally. He finished with 6.

Javier ZANETTI becomes the first Argentine player in history to lift the Champions League/European Cup trophy as a captain!

Diego MILITO is the 4th Argentine player to score in a Champions League final. Before him, only DI STEFANO, RIAL and Hernán CRESPO.

MILITO is the 5th player to score two goals in a Champions League final (since it's called Champions League). Before him: MASSARO (94); RIEDLE (97); CRESPO (2005) and INZAGHI (2007).

Seba, I do not want to take anything away from Milito's glory today but I want to ask a question. I heard that Diego is playing Messi behind Pipita and Tevez. Will he try this during the WC? If so what do you think. Or how about a Messi,Higuain,Milito trio. Will that work? I do think so because who will come in for a Higuain or Milito? Palermo? haha.

    Jack!

its a 3-4-3 aparantly in training it looks like many formations are being tested today it was

    bardisso-otamendi-henze
    jonas-------masch------maxi
    -------------pastore/veron------
    messi---------higuain------dimaria

or maybe dimaria in midfield and maxi behind the front 3

its got to be hard when you have a squad who can play so many formations

imagine the england squad in a 3-5-2 or 3-4-3 or 3-3-1-3 it would be a disaster lol

otamendi-samuel-henze looks a very good 3 on paper

i think maradona is using formations that are solid 4-4-2 can change into like 3-4-3 4-3-3 etc its for subs emergancies changes in attack i think taking 1 cb of is a option and adding ether a attacking midfielder or a striker

milito a champians league winner hardly batistuta is he the worlds a funny old place at times

i feel for demi he was effectivly on his own at the back for byan made to look bad by 3 other ball watchers he looked embarrest at times as if he was carrying the other 3 samuel suits him and also otamendi looks like a ayala samuel hybrid i think the kid has a future

  7. One of the reasons why I love Argentine football, there is so much talent and greatness that there is little room for all players to shine, that is a beautiful thing. I really hope Diego Alberto Milito can get valuable time at the WC. He has been clutch all season.

Milito is a great player even at Zaragoza. Unfortunately big club did not want him. Luckily for inter he gave champion league for them. Mourinho rely only for him for the goal.

  10. "This is a joy I’ve never experienced,” said Milito, who finished the season with 30 goals. “Football always gives the chance for redemption. I always fought hard and tried to give my all and learn as much as I could, even though I’m 30.”

Spoken like a true Argentine, gotta love Diego!

  11. Thanks for those quotes and welcome to Mundo Albiceleste, Vedran.

MILITO also said: "I don't think I became a part of history, but our team did".

That's what I mean...he is just TOO nice.

Jack...I wouldn't go crazy over what Diego is testing in training. Not this week.

I mean...he can't even make an 11 vs. 11 training session. The team is still incomplete. So don't take those tests as an indication of what we could see in South Africa.

There could be a chance for us to see three defenders and three forwards on Monday vs. Canada (especially with both DEMICHELIS and SAMUEL not playing) and because it's a match without any risks involved (when it comes to results).

So Diego could start doing the testing we've been all asking of him.

  12. As an Inter fan, I feel very bitter about the way Zanetti and Cambiasso has been ignored, who are miles ahead of some people on the roster. The joke among us Inter fans is that Moratti bribed Maradona so he won't call many Inter players, and they will stay fresh for the next season.

Anyway, I believe the prince will spend most his time on the bench.

    Shame on Maradona.

  13. since everyone is talking about Milito - and everyone should. no one should forget Cambiasso.

after milito, he was the man of the match. he protected the back four superbly and his first quick touches were amazing and at countless times he was able to drag the ball out of tight areas were Bayern were pressing Inter.

pleassseeee diego give milito and higuain a chance to play upfront togeather,
    thank you

  15. Agreed on CAMBIASSO, Mohd. An Argentine journalist said on Twitter (half joking, half making a point): "CAMBIASSO played a bad pass for the last time six months ago. It was in a training session before a Serie A match".

To add to that. Here's a mind-blowing stat: Esteban CAMBIASSO is now second in the list of most decorated Argentine players in history. By 'decorated' I mean, the players with more trophies.

DI STEFANO is still top with 21.

CAMBIASSO now has 20, whilst Walter SAMUEL is tied with Nicolás BURDISSO with 19.

ZANETTI, who on Saturday played his 700th match for Inter, has won 14 titles in his career.

Bad luck omen? Yeah...right! The things you have to hear!!!

  16. And since I'm feeling playful...

Diego MILITO helped Racing Club in 2001 to win the Argentine league title for the first time in 35 years.

Today Diego MILITO helped Inter win their first Champions League/European Cup title in 45 years.

Now Argentina is heading for South Africa needing to end a 24 year run without winning a World Cup.

After 35 and 45 years...24 years sounds like an easy job for him! haha!

    Hey Seba,
to be frank i never ever considered milito as an important player for Argentina and this may be coz i dont watch italian league that much and more over milito never impressed me in NT but ya he didnt got enough time. i still remember in qualifiers u always said that if milito gets 90 mins then he would surely score bt ya that time i just thought that it was ur love for milito but NO NO NO way man. i was totally wrong!!! i just became fan of this guy from yesterday! not only his goals but he isnt selfish as well . he always wanted intre to socre not that he only wanted to score. his 2 assists were amazing but ya they didnt took that chance but ya he team oriented person and u know what when i was watching the match i was happy for milito as well as i was really really happy for u bro coz i know how proud it feels when we trust smone whole life and that trust is delievered !!! Congratulation to u as well bro!!! and yes I REALLY REALLY HOPE MILITO AND MESSI STARTS AS FORWARDS FOR US. hope MARADONA WATCHED YESTERDAY'S MATCH. and yes i m very happy for zenetti as well. it was amazing to see him lifting the trophy as captain!!! VAMOS ARGENTINA!!!

  18. Fantastic game by Milito! What a player! Great game by all 4 argies. It was an incredible moment to see Zanetti lift the cup. I will never forget this evening. I will never forgive Diego…..

    Demichelis……
He should have dropped back fast as hell the moment Milito headed the ball to Sneider….but he was to slow. I have said it many times before: Demi is not a great defender, so I am not saying this because of this goal. But this was another evidence. He is not great, you guys always tend to over rate him. He is good and very important to our team cause he is, after Samuel, the best defender we have. He is a warrior with great heart. But he is not a really great player. He was, and is, too slow. Just like Samuel and Heinze. Two warriors, but still slow. Samuel is always ok in this aspect at Inter cause he has a speedy guy(Lucio) next to him.
I see this as a potential problem in the world cup. We have a very slow defence, maybe apart from Otamendi who has ok speed. But if we are to play defensive counter attacking football it doesn’t matter, we don’t need speedy defenders. However if we want to attack and dominate the games, it could be a problem with big, slow defenders.

I am one of those who think a Milito-Messi partnership would be the best for Argentina. Higuain is great, no problems with him, I just believe Milito would be even better paired with Messi.

  19. I finally watched the match this morning (recorded). I was frankly surprised Bayern made this far, but Inter could not be denied this season. Too many strong wins vs top clubs.

I don't see how this game signifies anything for Milito on the national team. He played his typical assassin role (a la Crespo, Batistuta et al) well, but I don't think he is even guaranteed a start ! Both he and Higuain may be the best net poachers on the planet right now, but only one will get the majority of minutes.

Maradona preferred Jonas over Cambiasso - I didn't think Cambiasso did much offensively vs Bayern. He denied Bayern's midfield all day but Inter was using 5 fbacks (including Zanetti) so I think he could have been more aggressive up front.

For me, it was a typical Inter match. Massive wall surrounding their net. Just two real scoring chances, and Milito was perfect. I know Maradona thinks this is the type of strategy required to win vs Germany/Netherlands/England in the latter rds.

Bravo Milito, Cuchu, and Zanetti. Champions !

Undeniably consider that which you said. Your favourite justification appeared to be on the
net the easiest factor to keep in mind of.
I say to you, I certainly get annoyed at the same time
as folks consider worries that they plainly don't recognise about. You controlled to hit the nail upon the top and also defined out the entire thing without having side effect , people can take a signal. Will probably be back to get more. Thanks
