2010 FIBA World Championship Draw - Tall Albiceleste Drawn In Group A

The draw for next year’s FIBA Basketball World Championship in Turkey has been made in the capital city Istanbul this morning . Argentina were drawn in Group A together with Serbia, Australia, Jordan, Germany and Angola.

Here is quick note on the other Groups before we give some information on what will Manu GINOBILI and the rest will face in Turkey.

Group A
ARGENTINA
Serbia
Australia
Jordan
Germany
Angola

Group B
Croatia
Brazil
Tunisia
Slovenia
Iran
USA

Group C
China
Turkey
Russia
Puerto Rico
Ivory Coast
Greece

Group D
Lithuania
Lebanon
France
Spain
Canada
New Zealand

Argentina will be based in the city of Kayseri for the preliminary stages and the following are their fixtures in order

28th August - Argentina vs. Germany
29th August - Argentina vs. Australia
30th August - Argentina vs. Angola
31st August - Argentina vs. Jordan
2nd September - Argentina vs. Serbia

Overall a relatively fair group for the Tall Albiceleste considering that we will not have Olympic gold medalist USA and reigning World and European champions Spain. Apart from that we also manage to avoid Greece, France, Brazil and Lithuania in the process.

Still, there is still tough game to look out for from their group.

Among which will be a renaissance Serbian side which finish runners up in this years Eurobasket. Should they get their best players together they will definitely provide a strong challenge for us. I reckon that it will be either our boys or them that looks good to finish top of the group.

On the other hand, both Australia and Germany are the dark horses from this group. Angola are the Kings of Afro Basket and do have plenty experience of playing in the international stage. Jordan will be making their debut but that doesn’t mean they will be the easiest opponent as every game will be as equally important.

  1. I hope they can build a strong team again. And I hope Manu can keep fit throughout the tournament.

  2. That's a friendly draw for Argentina. They shouldn't have any problems getting out of that group. Argentina, Australia and Serbia should be the top three teams. The other three fighting for the final spot through to the next round.

Depending how how many of Argentina's best players suit up ... you have to feel pretty good about the chances of finishing with the top spot.

Group C looks like the only difficult group. China, Russia, Turkey, Greece. Four good teams plus a solid Puerto Rico side.
