2009 FIFA Under-17 World Cup Draw

The draw has been made for the upcoming Under-17 World Cup, the only international tournament that we have yet to win. Our young guns will have a tough proposition when the tournament gets underway in Nigeria from October 24 to November 15.

Little Argentina are grouped together with the host nation, Germany and Honduras in Group A. Nigeria as we know are the defending champion and did knocked us out in the quarter-finals two years ago while Germany are the current European holders.

Here are the respective groups after the draw was conducted on August 7.

Group A - Nigeria, Germany, Argentina, Honduras
Group B - Brazil, Japan, Mexico, Switzerland
Group C - Iran, Gambia, Colombia, Netherlands
Group D - Turkey, Burkina Faso, Costa Rica, New Zealand
Group E - UAE, Malawi, Spain, USA
Group F - Uruguay, South Korea, Algeria, Italy

As for the fixture, our boys will take on Honduras on the opening day at the Abuja Stadium in the capital city. Three days later they will take on Germany at the same venue. On August 30, they will travel to the city of Bauchi, where they will face the host.

Only the winner, runners up from each group plus four of the best third place team will progress to the second round. Will this be the year that we finally win the only title that is missing from our trophy cabinet?

Nice! Judging by the state of the problems here (and the U-20 giant deception), it seems that at least we'll have some U-17 football to enjoy AND forget the Brasil and Paraguay results... joke joke!

  2. Lazio has just defeated Inter for the super cup. Zarate was the winner as he had a great shot saved from Cesar and he also won his team the free kick which lead to the openning goal. he was a headache to the Inter defence. was maradona seeing this??

on the other end, Milito also put a very good show as he was unlucky to score. Cambiasso commanded the midfield as usual while el Capittano was the usual monster. but again was maradona watching?

Trecarichi was born in 1991, so he cant be there and i'm not sure that lamela will be there (even though he's eligible). You're right by saying we probably have many others... some most likely unknown.
