First, it was going to be Uruguay. Then, the candidate was Paraguay. Someone said: Perú, Costa Rica, Guatemala... A thousand different options were mentioned and in the end...our rival in a friendly match to be played on 20 May in Santa Fé, will be Panamá.
We already know only players competing in our domestic league will be representing Argentina in that friendly. And we know Diego MARADONA called up 26 players.
Over the last few days we've been getting more information and bigger certainties.
Let's see...
Out of the players from that list, we know that young Boca Juniors defender, Ezequiel MUÑOZ, is injured and will be sideline for a good few months.
Depending on how they fare at the Copa Libertadores, we could be also missing all the players from Estudiantes de La Plata and Boca Juniors.
The first leg of the Copa Libertadores quarter-finals starts exactly on May 20 and provided they advance from the eight-finals, both teams will meet the same day Argentina play Panamá.
If they get knocked out in the eight-finals round, they should be available, but the doubt remains because they'd be busy until a couple of days prior to the match, which would make things hard for Diego and for them to adapt to the new environment.
Therefore, there are doubts over the presence of ANDUJAR, ANGELERI, FORLIN, BATTAGLIA and most importantly, VERON and PALERMO.
The friendly match was officially announced by Ariel ALVARADO, the President of the Panama FA.
Hardly a fixture that could make us salivate in anticipation, Panama are not even playing in the final round of the CONCACAF World Cup Qualifiers.
The match will be played at Colón de Santa Fé stadium and Mundo Albiceleste will be giving all our readers more news when they start coming as the match approaches.
In the meantime...pump up that volume! Grow your big hairs and sing along!
Eddie Van Halen! Truly one of the greatest guitarists in the history of Rock. But is it really going to be Panama? FIFA.COm has it has Uruguay and the game at Montevideo. Oh well, if it is Panama then he should be a cakewalk.

Jack...I have it from two very reliable sources (when they are combined): Olé and TyC Sports.
ReplyDeleteNothing on the AFA official website but I'm not surprised. Today's is workers' day and surely there's nobody at their offices.
By the way...a belated happy workers' day for everybody.
Ah gotcha! Thanks for the info Seba!
ReplyDeleteUpdate on the La Liga game. Real Madrid has scored 1-0. Higuain scored on a beautiful header. The lead is down to 1 point. So far not a good week for Barca!
Jack!
What in the world! Barca scores 2 goals in the matter of 2 min. 1 by Henry and 1 by Puyol. Lead is back up to 7!
ReplyDeleteJack!
WOW! Higuain got the ball through to Arjen Roben. Valdez with a great save. Higuain on the ball again crosses, Dani Alves almost puts it back in his own net! What a great game in the first 22min.

24TH min Messi has a one-one vs Iker but kicks it straight to his hand. Almost!
ReplyDeleteJack!
Messi with another chance to push the game to 3-1. Messi breaks Iniesta open for a chance, Iniesta passes back to Messi and he kicks it straight to Iker. I think all these chances Barcelona are getting and not putting them away may hurt them!
ReplyDeleteJack!
Goal Messi!!! Xavi steals the ball from mid way and Messi is 1-1 vs Iker once again. Toe pokes it and Iker is helpless.Lead is 3-1 right now.
ReplyDeleteJack!
Sergio Ramos scores for Madrid. 3-2 now.
ReplyDeleteJack!
It seems Barca scores at will. 4-2 now. Henry catches Iker off his line as he is running towards him. The title is almost theirs. I think Barca smells blood.

I have to say Higuain has been missing for the entire game besides that game. Dani Alves has had his numbers but also it seems most of Barca drop on Higuain as soon as he touches the ball. They know how deadly he can be. Gago has been horrible. Heinze has not have that bad of a game. Game is really slowed down. Seems that Madrid has thrown in the towel. 70 min gone this far.Game can easily be 7 or 8-2.
ReplyDeleteJack!
5-2. Xavi puts Messi through and poor poor Iker. Messi just slides it in. Barca are showing no mercy. The Madrid fans are starting to leave. You can hear the Catalonians singing and chanting. I wonder if some of the real Madrid fans are going to stay back and give Barca a standing O.
ReplyDeleteJack!
6-2 now. I am in real shock. I saw the look on the Real Madrid players face and I just felt bad. Pique scores the 6th goal as Henry crosses it, he misses on the tap in but gets the rebounds and nets #6. No MAS!
ReplyDeleteJack!
One fast correction. Eto crossed the ball. Not Henry.
