I’ve been keeping in touch with some of my extended family members from Down Under. It seems to them, there are two big things they will be looking forward to in the next 48 hours. In terms of sports, to be exact.
Firstly, the entire country is geared up for the NFC Championship Final between the Arizona Cardinals and the Philadelphia Eagles. You might be thinking, what on earth are the Aussie so keen on the American version of football?
Well that’s because history is beckoning for them to see either Sav ROCCA (Eagles) or Ben Graham (Cardinals) to become the first Aussie to punt in the Super Bowl. Good luck to both of them.
Then there is of course the first Grand Slam of the year, the Australian Open. We at Mundo are more eager to follow this event, especially after those warm up wins from David NALBANDIAN and Juan Martin DEL POTRO over the weekend.
For David, he will face Frenchmen Marc GICQUEL while DEL POTRO will play against Mischa ZVEREV from Germany in their first round match up respectively. Another high profile encounter will see Juan MONACO taking on last year’s runner up, Jo-Wilfred TSONGA from France.
Here are the rest of the first round match ups involving the Albiceleste: -
Eduardo SCHWANK vs. Tommy HAAS (GER)
Diego JUNQUEIRA vs. Richard GASQUET (FRA)
Guillermo CANAS vs. Dieter KINDLMANN (GER)
Martin Vassallo ARGUELLO vs. Gael MONFLIS (FRA)
Brian DABUL vs. Brydan KLEIN (AUS)
Agustin CALLERI vs. Guillermo GARCIA-LOPEZ (ESP)
Good luck to our Racquet Kings!!! Could this be the year we finally win a Grand Slam since 2004?
Hey thanks for reaching out to me. I too love tennis and can understand your enthusiasm for Nalbandian. He is a class act who always plays a tough match, and his recent win in Sydney signifies he is a definite force at this year's Australian Open
ReplyDeleteI cheer for the underdogs, and last year's Aussie Open gave me plenty to cheer about. I hope that Tsonga can make another run, but I'll also be happy to see how Nadal holds up to the pressure of being no. 1. Both Nadal and Federer make playing tennis look so easy. I love the power of Nadal and the finesse of Federer.
