Davis Cup – Del Potro Sends Argentina into the Final
What a day it must have been for those entire supporter in the Estadio Parque Rocca. Juan Martin DEL POTRO victory in the final rubber against Igor ANDREEV ensured that Argentina will play in its third Davis Cup final.
David NALBANDIAN, who perhaps was tired from the doubles event a day earlier, suffered a defeat in the hand Nikolay DAVYDENKO 6-3, 3-6, 6-7 & 0-6. The result means that Russian has evened the score to 2-2.
Which means everything was rest upon the shoulder of DEL POTRO, to deliver us to the promise land. He repeated his near perfect performance (as he did against DAVYDENKO on Friday) with a comfortable 6-4, 6-2 & 6-1 win.
Argentina will play Spain who eliminated the United States 4-1 in the final. The best part of this story is that the final will be played in Buenos Aires for the first time. More on the final later but for now, a BIG VAMOS to the racquet kings.
Football – Goals & Highlights
Well our friend Akash has done wonderful job in summarizing all the goals scored from Sunday's action in the previous article's comment box. Thanks a lot mate! Here some of them which I've manage to upload from Youtube. Oh yes! Thanks Jack for the links!
Lionel MESSI's Double Against Sporting Gijon
Mauro ZARATE's Goal in Lazio Defeat To AC Milan
Diego MILITO Against Genoa
Luciano GALLETI For Olympiakos
Mauro CANTORO's Power Strike In Poland
NFL – Gramatica Miss Field Goal Try
Martin GRAMATICA's 43-yard field goal try with 1:55 remaining was wide right, and the Denver Broncos escaped with a 34-32 win over the New Orleans Saints on Sunday.
GRAMATICA did earlier convert a field goal from 43 yard in the first quarter. He also had 3 extra points made after touchdowns from Pierre THOMAS and Reggie BUSH (2).
He did miss another field goal attempt just before half time. This is the first time that Martin had missed his kicking attempt this season.
I still can't believe del Potro is the hero last night. Now I believe he could be the latest edition to the Big Four; make it a Big Five soon!
ReplyDeleteThanks for your earlier comment.
ReplyDeleteI agree and think Del Potro will really be a force in tennis in the coming years. As much as I like Roddick, I really thought Del Potro showed his stuff in LA earlier in the summer. I watched him at the Open against Andy Murray and really became a fan of his, despite the (unfortunate!) loss.
I'm happy Argentina is in the finals...I think the match-up against Spain will be a fun one as both teams are so talented.
Congrats on your win!

Juan Martin Del Potro is the man of the moment. After winning 4 titles heading into the US Open and making a deep run in New York, he is definitely proving that he can compete with the world's best players and that one day he will be in the Top 10.
ReplyDeleteI was surprised that David Nalbandian didn't win the semifinal for Argentina in the first match on Sunday against Nikolay Davydenko, but there was no need to worry as Del Potro took care of business easily over Igor Andreev to close out a 3-2 Argentina win over Russia.
Spain vs. Argentina in November should be an outstanding Davis Cup final.
Now the final against Spain, it is difficult to say a favourite, since although Spain has Rafa Nadal, he is tired and therefore it is doubtful his surrender and David Ferrer is not in his best moment of the year.
ReplyDeleteWe will see.

Hi there. Sorry as I have not been able to post to any article during the last few days due to work commitment.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the comments on our Davis Cup success. The other day I was reading the newspaper, it seems the most unique thing about the Davis Cup being played in Argentina is all about the fans. They bring their usual chant that mostly associated in football stadiums. If there is going to be one factor that might play a crucial role in the final, I believe it is the fans.
Seba, hopefully you'll have the time to go and watch the final at the arena itself, as this could history in the making.
Here is some football news taken place during the mid-week.
Matias MIRAMONTES scored the first goal for Ancona in their 2-0 win over Serie B rival Brescia.
In Switzerland, Grasshopper defeated Bellinzona 3-1 with Raul BOBADILLA and Eulogio ZARATE among the scorer. BOBADILLA was later sent off in the game.
Genoa produced a stunning performance against AS Roma at home by defeating them 3-1. Diego MILITO scored twice in that match.
Julio CRUZ stepped up from the bench to score for Inter Milan in their 1-0 win over Lecce.
Diego KLIMOWICZ scored in extra time for Borussia Dortmund in their 2-1 win over Hertha Berlin in the DFB German Pokal.
Finally for my buddy Seba, congratulations to you as your beloved Queen's Park Rangers knocked Aston Villa out of the Carling Cup.
