Argentina walk all over Mexico in a 4-1 win

It was an after midnight kickoff in Argentina and I won't be able to give you a match report right now.

I can say is that we saw a brilliant first half by Argentina that finished 3-0. And here are a few bullet-points on the match and our performance:

  • MESSI was brilliant with one goal, one assist and also a key role in Maxi RODRIGUEZ's goal.
  • AGÜERO played a great game and scored the fourth after a neat pass by MESSI.
  • BURDISSO caught a rebound in Mexico's box and opened up the scoring.
  • ABBONDANZIERI made a terrible mistake in arguably the only shot on target by Mexico in the entire match. He miscalculated the trajectory of the ball and let it in, basically.
  • The back three looked very solid.
  • MASCHERANO and GAGO contained Mexico very well.
  • Maxi was all over the place, he scored one and he was denied by SANCHEZ in another fine move.
  • CRUZ was not up to the job. He did played a nice low cross in MESSI's goal but he looked average, didn't finish quite well and sometimes he looked kind of lost.
  • A great performance and a sensational display of scoring prowess that is surely the mark of a good team.

Let us know what are your thoughts on the game and vote for your man of the match.

Mundo's choice is Lionel MESSI. Supersonic as always. Very very comfortable on the ball. Unstoppable for Mexico. Great work-rate as well and a total awareness as to where were his team-mates at all times. Good ball distribution too. Impressive stuff from Pulga!

I am so glad we have finally scored a big win over a worthy opponent. I have not seen the game but it is looking good.

It also looks good for the Olympics too if Messi and Aguero are really going to Beijing.

I've seen it and I totally agree with Seba's remarks. the teem looked very strong and full of confidence, playing safely not leaving the ball away pointlessly even when Mexico applied pressure - before the 4th goal there was some quite a while when Mexican players did their best to force Mascherano, Gago, Demichelis, Coloccini to give away the ball. weren't able eventually. speaking of Coloccini, if you ask me he's definitely a better choice for center back than Gabi Milito. I think his todays duet with Demichelis was outstanding. even Burdisso which I somehow dislike as a side back, looked, I say, relatively well over average. Messi rocked - there's no question about that. in fact he did well enough today to say he's the greatest atacking midfielder the football world now have. down with Cristiano - selfcentered poser. ManU people lost their toy named shortly Becks, now it's Rony's turn, or Ronie, Ronny, whatever.. still, I'm very glad at last my favourite team, Argentina beat the hell out of a really strong opponent. they look so comfortable on the ball, they knew what they want to do and they did what they wanted to. hope Alfio Basile won't go nuts and leaves the core of the team as one could call Gago/Banega-Messi-Maxi-Kun as it is. my thought is that 'because only these guys know best how to win trophies (like olympic gold medal or world youth cup) so if Basile wants to achieve something more in his coaching career not just the second place in everything, he should build the team upon the aforementioned players. Cruz is too static and sometimes his slow reaction gives one a feeling he's just not as good as the forward should be among the quick-thinking and passing messi or aquero. I mean, Cruz is good for chess-like football where nothing happens till the 80th when the Ref whistles for penalty. then a player like Cruz can shine and score. of course I mean that boring italian premier league. Lisandro has such a great season - he should be present in the primary line-up instead of Cruz. Cavenaghi olso did play very well - he's tall but he's got enough skill and can keep the ball under pressure very well. I'm so sad that we now waiting for Euro Championship to kick off not a World Cup or some other tournament in which Argentina could participate. thanks for Seba for his quick game review. It's the first time I'm doing a comment here so as I forgot, now I welcome all of you Argentina fans and other as well =) as I'm a man of few words I only want to say that watching the game today, where Messi, Kun, Gago and hell this - every of them - played so well was only a fun and most important it showed that Argentinians are going for the right way. cheers. ps. please, be forgivin - I mean my english.

What a win! It never seemed a bit hard for us throughout the whole game but as I thought, if we are to win the world cup, we need a good keeper, pato with due respect will just not be good enough. Messi!!There are no words! Perfect combination between Aguero and him. All players were good although at many times after scoring 3, I felt that the guys weren't as aggressive as the first quarter. A perfect performance and I saw the hunger to win which is a great sign.

I was sad that Boca lost but comparing the keepers, it was inevitable. They need to change him already.

Off to destroy the Brazilians now:-D

See this is the with Argentina and it always seem to happen. They play great first couple of games together even 3 games then for some reason they do play up to their par. For exampe, 06 WC crushed Serbia and going aganist a Mexico side they wasted so much energy and needed a miracle goal by Maxi to go on vs the Germans which they lost in PK's.

Copa America, cruise through the first few games, slap around Mexico and I am looking forward a Copa America crown for the natl side they lose to a Brasilian team who did not even bring some of their players.

Only game I have on my date is that matchup vs Brasil. Lets hope they win it and cruise along to China and WCQ and onto a 3rd WC/ Ok baby steps.

    Jack!
