Its as if she's TRYING to make an excuse for the loss. I took it in a way that "We lost because Germany is physical". Suddenly the 2002 World Cup for the Mens team dosn't look too bad.

ReplyDeleteWe lost 1-0 with Japan's goal coming in the 91st minute.
At least there was an improvement... Especially since having a high goal differential is what the other 3 teams want to advance. That and it was almost a tie. Considering Japan beat us 6-1 or 6-0 last WC it's a definite step up. The girls need more money and resources if they are ever going to be competitive with the better teams.

It was a defeat that is hard to swallow, especially coming at injury time. They were moments we hit the woodwork and came close on other occasions to score. But I'm going to agree with Argentinafan, this is was an improvement by the girls.
ReplyDeleteLets face it, there is still a long way for them to go, if they were to compete in the same level as the men. So I'm not going to be to harsh of them like some people (I'm not going to mention any name, you know who you are) that I've came across lately.
The girls can take plenty of experience from this tournament considering the fact that we will play in next years Olympic after clinching the 2006 Sudamericano Femenino.
And now for an off topic update-ManU over Everton today 1-0. Vidic with a header late in the match. Carlitos had a real nice game, much involved in the offense, digging on defense and didn't miss by much on a screamer from outside the area.

ReplyDeleteHaving watched the whole world cup so far, i have to say that both captain Eva Nadia Gonzalez and midfielder Fabiana Gisela Vallejos are so lovely! Especially Eva! She scored a fantastic free kick too against England, but i felt bad for the own goal. Seen many players in the men's game score similar OGs. One of those moments where a split second descision they make goes wrong. And the kung fu style high tackle on England's Vicky Exley was a bit rash, but i thought she was Argentina's best player of the 3 games? Despite the horror show at the world cup, which players are most likely to emerge as world stars in the next 3 to 4 years anyone ?

Now we'll just look forward to the Olympics. Not that I'm expecting anything like our wonderful achievement in 2004. But the chance to play at such a high stage does mean everything for this girls.
