MESSI rather anonymous. MILITO gives Inter hope

Another day of Champions League action and some Argentine players involved for FC Barcelona and for Inter.

In a game between two teams that share almost the same 'football philosophy', Barcelona started off with 9 shots on goal inside the first 20 minutes, whilst Arsenal chased shadows for most of that first half.

Lionel MESSI had a few chances but never really got his game going. Zlatan IBRAHIMOVIC scored twice and Arsenal replied with goals from Theo WALCOTT and Cesc FABREGAS, who will miss the trip to the Camp Nou after seeing a yellow card.

Gabriel MILITO got introduced to play the final few minutes after Carles PUYOL saw red. With the legendary captain and Gerard PIQUE both suspended for the second leg, it looks like Gabriel MILITO will have a chance to show Diego what he can do playing at the top level of European football.

Speaking about MILITO and top level of European football, Gabriel's brother, Diego, just keep firing those shots in.

Between Champions League and Serie A, Diego Alberto MILITO got to 21 goals this season, the first at his new club.

Against CSKA Moscow, MILITO and company made of Igor AKINFEEV a wall of a goalkeeper. That was until the 65th minute when the former Racing Club, Genoa, and Zaragoza striker received the ball from Wesley SNEJDER just outside the area and sent a powerful shot towards the bottom left corner.

Walter SAMUEL, Esteban CAMBIASSO and Il Capitano Javier ZANETTI also played 90 minutes for the Italian champions.

Now both Inter and Barcelona have the upper hand for the second leg, but they need to capitalize on those chances if they want to meet up in the semifinals and give us a MILITO vs. MILITO showdown (just like when they were playing for Racing and Independiente, the bitter Avellaneda rivals in Argentina).

LM10ARG,

man you are too harsh. just days ago Milito missed two chances and Inter lost the match of the season against Roma! for the 100 time, Milito and Higuain are both great, whoever plays I have no complains!

LMAO Anonymous, I don't care if I suck but Milito rulez.

As for MESSI........

today's match proves why Messi will NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER EVER EVER be Maradona. Hell with skill and ball control, Maradona had character and leadership skills which Messi lacks horribly. Without much debate, if the stupid Busquets has the ball and won't pass it to Messi when both are in a fast break, then later Pedro and Xavi and Kieta do it...and Messi cannot force his character then Messi will forever be that cute loveable talented player but he will NEVER be Maradona.

Lol like maradona never had an off game in his life. LMAO...

Messi usually had 2-3 players on him... Arsenal were more worried about marking him than anything else

SAVE IT. Messi is being compared, at 22, with what Maradona did in the whole of his career. If you want to isolate this game of Messi's GIVE ME a game that Maradona triumphed -- at 22 -- against one of the biggest teams in the world. Can't do it? Didn't think so.

Messi is overthinking right now because people went off the deep end and started calling him the best player EVAH. He's still a fing kid. Give him a chance to develop. Sheesh.

i think the plan from barca today was to let messi play it simple and not to do to much as they know their is always going to be 2 or 3 players near him and it opens up gaps for the rest to exploite and they did and barca should have won by 4/5 goals.

@ Mohd:

The first thing you ever say and I agree on, Messi will never be Maradona.

@ LM10ARG:

Dude, are you really an Argentinian fan ?! I really don't know what's your issue with Higuain, he didn't even play today to judge him !!

This is the 3rd game Messi did not show his usual performance. After meeting with Maradona, maybe Messi instructed not to put him self too hard to avoid injury and save energy for world cup, hahahaha..

All the commentators and journalists I see here in Hong Kong predict easy win for Liverpool over Benfica.

I like Mascherano, Insua and Maxi Rodriguez, but I think Aimar, Saviola and, perhaps more likely than anyone, Di Maria will prove these stupid Hong Kong journalists wrong.

No, no, you know what? LM10ARG is Diego Milito himself! Of course he's an Argentina fan and a fan of himself.

If I am crucified for being a Diego Milito fan, what about Seba? He is a Milito fan as well. I am an extreme fan but still...

Paulina -->

you are missing the point. i am not comparing Messi's career to Maradona's career. I am talking about character and leadership; sorry but these things are born with you and cannot be gained. Messi is now 23 and he has no influence on his teammates and for this he will never be Maradona.
Again if you cannot "intimidate" Busquets and Pedro to pass you the ball then...you know what.

Goal.com is reporting that Jose Mourinho has quit Inter to join Real Madrid!?!?!? Is this true or has someone hacked into goal.com and made a false report? Would he really quite while in the middle of a quarter final Champions League tie and in the middle of a three way battle for the Scudetto?

Say it isn't so!?!?

Wait a second, it is April 1st today isn't it? I think I have feel fooled.... Bastards! At least I hope so!

GK-well, it was a funny as hell article anyway and sounded just nuts enough to really be Morinho ! I think the giveaway was at the end when he supposedly said he would take one player to Real Madrid-Quaresma !

why do we bother comparing Messi to Maradona,I think we should be all happy that Messi was born Argentinian not Brazilian.Let us enjoy his play and hope we win the WC with him.

Messi needed a much deserved break, but Barca can't leave him out of the lineup w/their remaining games. I hope he some energy left for South Africa.

Mohd - character and leadership comes from EXPERIENCE. It's not just an innate trait. Maradona, in his first world cup, was kicked out for stomping on a brazilian. That' snot much character.

It's precisely those qualities -- what you just state - are qualities that some with time. Messi is at an age where he wouldn't normally even be called up to a national team.

I remember watching Maradona. But i don't understand the people who are taking the kool aid about him. He wasn't GOD. And - also - we are watchong EVERY SINGLE GAME that Messi plays now. Haw many people can say that they watched every maradona game, in real time. That means that we are seeing Messi's highs and lows, where the Maradona memory really is just about the highs.

When Barca play against a English team, they will play a style that prioritizes Ibrah's qualities, rather than Messi's. Messi will probably have more freedom in the return league. He'll show his stuff then.

Yes, Maradona was God !!

Somebody in the "chatroom" posted that they were "upset with the way Messi played" against Arsenal. I'm I the only one who gets "upset" about that kind of comment ? #1, and it needs to be said, Lio Messi doesn't give a s**t what anybody at "Mundo" posts, from Seba, John and Roy, down to infrequent posters. Neither does Maradona. Neither does any other player on the NT. (Well, maybe some of them care what Seba says, but NOBODY ELSE. Well, maybe Paulina, that's two).

:) Anyway, please control your delusions of grandeur ! Messi doesn't know you and he don't wanna know you ! He don't care if you are upset and neither do I ! Dispense with all of the TALK RADIO horses**t mentality ! That goes for the debaters in the boring and absurd Milito vs. Higuain argument as well.

There, I needed to get that offa my chest. Saludos.

I read an interesting stats on the web. We have 4 strikers who are at their best. They are (in order):
1. Lionel Messi: 32 goals so far
2. Gonzalo Higuain 27 goals in 36 games.
3. Carlos Tevez: 25 goals
4. Diego Milito: 21 goals

Gonzalo Higuain played the fewest minutes out of all.

It's no coincidence that Maradona's forward pecking order is:
1. Lionel Messi
2. Gonzalo Higuain
3. Carlos Tevez
4. Diego Milito/Sergio Aguero/Martin Palermo.

That shows that Maradona really does select based on their form.

Messi have a bad game that night. He seem unhappy.
Milito always a clutch. Scores important goal in big matches. I rate him above torres or nistelrooy. even in zaragoza and genoa he can score many goals. Too bad maradona is the coach and he is not included in the argentina world cup team.
