The Tall Albiceleste started their campaign in the quarter-finals group stage from where they left off in the first round. They defeated Canada with ease 67-51 and won their third straight game at Coliseo Roberto Clemente.
Luis SCOLA once again had a excellent game but this time his task was made much easier as both Federico KAMMERICHS and Leonardo GUTIERREZ step up to produce some much needed support and top class performance. This has been a real surprise for the Canadians who clearly had their eye on SCOLA from the first tip off.
KAMMERICHS posted 7 points in the first quarter which ended 15-13 in Argentina;s favour. Sergio FERNANDEZ side blazed through the next two quarter to extend their lead to 56-38.
GUTIERREZ posted 15 points, 2 rebounds & 1 steal while KAMMERICHS had 13 points, 7 rebounds, 2 assists, 5 steals and a block shot. Meanwhile SCOLA posted 12 points, 9 rebounds, 1 assist & 1 block shot.
The victory improve Argentina’s record to 3-1 and clearly they are heading in the right direction for a place in semi-finals. They’re next match will be against Mexico.
2009 US Open - So Far So Good
The Men’s tennis Albiceleste so far seems to be having a good outing in the first round of the Men’s Single, with the exception of two players being knocked out.
Leonardo MAYER started the positive run after defeating Kazakh Andrey GOLUBEV 6-4, 4-6, 7-5 & 6-3 on Day 1. He will be facing a tougher tie in the next stage when he takes on Radek STEPANEK.
In Day 2, Horacio ZEBALLOS came away with a victory in his tie against Michael BERRER 6-3, 7-6, 3-6 & 6-0. He will face 17th seeded Tomas BERDYCH in the next round. The day also victory for Juan Ignacio CHELA after defeating Oscar HERNANDEZ from Spain 6-4, 6-4 & 6-2. In the next round, will see an interesting tie as CHELA will face his old nemesis Lleyton HEWITT.
Maximo GONZALEZ made a remarkable comeback after going two sets down to overcome his Karol BECK from Slovakia 2-6, 1-6, 6-1, 6-4 & 6-3.
Martin Vassollo ARGUELLO was unlucky as he lost his first round encounter to local boy Robert KENDRICKS (3-6, 2-6 & 2-6). The other player to loose his tie was Juan Pablo BRZEZI CKI as he down to Carsten BALL of Australia 6-7, 3-6 & 4-6.

http://www.fiba.com/pages/eng/fc/even/rank/rankMen.asp
Hi, we run a sports blog called Vanguardia Deportiva and we'd like to exchange links.
Cheers!
