NALBANDIAN went in first to face Igor ANDREEV but did had a scary moment in the first set. ANDREEV took a 4-1 lead but NALBANDIAN rallied back to win the game in a tie breaker 7-6. he went on to win the next two sets 6-2 & 6-4.On the other hand, DEL POTRO did had any trouble dispatching Nikolay DAVYDENKO winning his match 6-1, 6-4 & 6-2. On his Davis Cup debut, he showed no signs of nerves in front of the raucous sellout crowd of 14,000, making DAVYDENKO hustle for nearly every point. Here is an interview with the match winner.
For Day 2, team captain Alberto MANCINI has indicated that he might partner NALBANDIAN and Guillermo CANAS in the doubles match. Now all is left, just for one more win and we are back in the final to face either Spain or USA. Spain are currently leading the other semi-final 2-0.

I am hoping for a Spain/Argentina final for the David Cup but I also won't know who to cheer for then- both teams? Argentina and Spain are my tow favorite countries on this planet (I think I'll be cheering for Argentina, as Spain won the David Cup only a few years back..it's Nalbandian's turn!)

Nalbandian and Del Potro both came out firing on Day One of Davis Cup in Argentina, which I thought would be the case. The Argentine's haven't lost on home soil in 10 years.
Nalbandian has had a average year so far, but you know he can ALWAYS step it up when he needs to. An example of that was last year when his ranking dipped to the 20's and he then won two straight Masters Series titles to finish the year in the Top 10.
Del Potro has a very bright future if he can keep this high level of tennis up. He has been playing remarkable tennis since Wimbledon. Winning four titles leading up to the US Open and the very impressive winning streak is amazing for someone so young, with not a lot of match experience in the later rounds of tournaments.
I knew both Argentine's would take care of the Russians on Day One, but I didn't expect Del Potro to dismantle Davydenko, so easily.
**Amazing doubles match today! Great effort by Nalbandian and Canas to fight off all the match points and take the match to 5 sets.
I think the Argentine's will do great tomorrow in singles in front a wonderful hometown crowd!**

Unfortunately for us, the pairing could not give the winning point in the double on Day 2. But you know what, I'm sure we will dominate in the singles and book our place in the final.
